I just bought one of these and used it today for the first time today. Changed my Subaru brake rotors in no time with this. The caliper bolts are usually a pain to get with a long ratchet, so this was a lifesaver.

The tool looks very impressive! I think the high speed of the impacting action helps somehow. All the vibration disrupting corrosion. The bell housing test was great.
I definitely feel like we have a different breed of rust here in Vermont. I have lug nuts on Subaru steel wheels that sat a few years I guarantee that tool wouldn't touch, hah.

Bingo. That's what I'll be buying this for. No hassle jobs in medium/small space areas.
This angled impact still won't be slim enough for like the inner lateral link bolt near the gas tank on gd Subarus with the axle in, but for nearly every other situation where a gun is just way too big, this will be great.

I purchased both, the 3/8" and 1/2", I returned the 1/2" version, as it was not cutting the mustard. No clue why, they are the same units with simply different anvils. The 3/8" version has been great so far, allowing for its limitations. It is not the powerhouse the little M12 3/8" Stubby is, but it can go places the Stubby can't, and it is staying put in my arsenal.

Upgraded from an older 18v kit. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

I just bought one and it is en route but I think 220 ft lb rating is misleading from watching lots of videos on it.
I heard it fails to remove most brake caliper bolts. The largest battery and a heavy deep socket apparently help get some better torque from it.

My problem is with the trigger position. For one handed use the trigger is positioned too far from the socket so it's very hard (impossible) to keep the socket on the fastener while using the tool. Surprising how much in real applications you need to use a tool like this one handed, ie while holding a spanner on the other side of the nut/bolt combo.

I’ve gotta remove the timing chain cover on my 2010 Subaru OB 3.6R (leaking oil and the water pump bearing seems to be going). I’m going to get a ratchet. Would this be a good do it all ratchet, starting with breaking loose all those little Allen head bolts?

  • @jmax.6587
    @jmax.6587 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

If you want an honest review here you go: it is a good tool, it’s fast and I do love using it whenever I do, however it is kind of useless. I’m situations where I would use something like this, I would just use the power ratchet. In situations where I don’t have to use something like this, I would just use my matco impact driver. Basically, it is the middle man and doesn’t have any specific job that it is meant for. I have been a Mercedes technician for some time now and I really only use it on belly pans because it is fast. But when I do things such as spark plugs and pulling batteries or anything interior, I just use the power ratchet. On other things I just use my impact driver. So for me personally, it is kinda useless.

      Why? It's only 220ft.lbs. It definitely won't break one free. That's a job for a 1/2 impact.

go to a junkyard in ohio and test this out on some subarus there. you've got them southern cream puffs there. the salts the true equalizer.
edit: since apparently y'all dont understand the purpose of a review, if he never tests it on rusty fasteners, why would anyone that isnt in the south want this? if i have to use the breaker bar to break it loose, then i would just buy the right angle ratchet to spin it out anyways. he also makes comments in his videos about how some bolts are a "bear", but the bolt comes right out with a little more effort. you ever try and drain and fill your rear diff, but the rust made the bolts into perfect circles? ever had to use the grinder and the gas axe more often than the sockets? not acknowledging the difficulties of salt climates for tools like this is a blatant disregard for a significant portion of the tools audience.
and to those saying "go and demo it yourself!!!" sorry genius, im not going to go waste my time on a maybe. if im buying an expensive tool, i dont have the time to fuck with it.
this is no insult to mr. subaru. i appreciate all the content he posts. i have no qualms about the way he reviews things, but yall in the comments are a bunch of pedantic ninnies sometimes.

So....what is the point of this comment?
Rust makes shit harder. Yes. We all know that. But what are you going to compare this to?
Busting your own knuckles with a breaker bar? An electric ratchet, that this is obviously more powerful than? Standard impacts that this is obviously less powerful than?
Or the IR 20v right angle impact that is rated at 180 ft-lbs for a 50% price increase? The Fap-Off pneumatic that offers 190ft-lbs?
Really, I just don't get the point of comments like this. If you want to know if it will work for you, go grab one, go to a pick and pull, try it out on the bolts you want it most for, see if it works. If it does? Sweet! New tool! If it doesn't? Return it. Or just sell it used. You're out either nothing but your own time, or maybe $20-30.

They were a pre-order item. You'll have to check around to see who has them in stock and how long before they get more. Most initial inventory has been depleted filling pre-orders.
