8 years as an IT business analyst in the energy sector and I can tell you that there's a surprising amount of times that I'll go into a meeting with potential customers and find out just by listening to them that all they need to do is stop doing a wasteful or inefficient behavior and they don't need to spend money on an IT solution at all. those are my favorite kind of meetings. Other times you'll spend months developing something with an approved budget and then there's a management change in your customers department and they have no interest in the product you've been developing. There's an extremely varied skill set to this career path.
I'm going to take an exam for IT Business Analyst in a few minutes. I worked with IT Operations for almost 2 years. This is the first video I watched about BA. Hope I pass the exam. Please pray for me. Thank you. God bless
That's because they want everyone to be an analyst, developer and support and sometimes even system administrator. been there done that no thanks. I have decided that from now on if I'm going to wear five hats that I deserve five salaries. Haha
Most companies, at least in the UK now split these roles up into data analyst, BA, soft developers etc..... that's because a team is more effective than a single person, especially when resolving complex problems. By allowing people to focus on a specific task within a project, you achieve significantly better outcomes.
Look fore more jobs that requiere less ten híñalo skills. I have two friends who are BA, not technical roles at all. One is a business major and the another one is a civil engineer. Even there’s an intern that’s still in school and basically works as any BA beginner. You just have to look for options and opportunities
So nervous about starting the last half of my mba- so it’s time for me to choose concentrations and I picked finance. Then I realized business analytics tie right into finance so I decided on a dual business analytics and finance concentration. Thanks so much man for making this quick tutorial, helps me get my feet wet again.
I have watched couple videos before this and didn't understand anything. Thank you so much for putting a lot of effort on writing and explaining so clearly. appreciate you. thanks again:)
As a BA. how much tech skills do you need to be successful? As in understanding coding languages, and computer science? Surely, if you're telling businesses what to do with their IT systems, you must need to be quite confident with IT?
Excellent (Y) ... , to add up to your Point, BAs should focus on to UNLEARN and LEARN constantly .. ( Gone are those days, when BA's were working on multiple documents, (BRD, HLD, LLD) . Today, the modern BA's works on (Epics, User User-story) and streamlining the process in an agile way ..
That modern BA you mentioned are not actual BAs they are product owners, in agile project management. BA is more into segmentation, elicitation and problem solving.
Nooooo! So why 97% of the time the BA is paired with a PM or PO and just serve as a secretary assistant for them, and never has a said in any decision- Healthcare domain, Property & Casual, Retail in the East coast. The BA open the file, share the screen and type what the PO or PM tells her to type
Hey man thank you! Im still in school and looking for a BA internship / coop I've had experience as a Marketing / Sales Analyst for 4 months but it wasn't technically BA work but like 40% this video helped a lot. Appreciate the help man :)
For a BA role is it always necessary to have an IT Background? What if you have more of a Business Background? I have often been confused as I’ve taken some introductory trainings on the role and often almost here that BA does not have to be IT based. They don’t need to know coding and so forth.
Right now I’m in the tech field of radar and defense network in the U.S. Navy. Right now I’m trying to get certifications like SEC+ and others. With the skills of being an on hand problem solver (technician on a warship) and the leadership skills of being a supervisor and teacher of certain equipment, do I have whats necessary to being an IT BA with just having a science associates degree and 6 years Naval experience? Can you please make a video about; difference between Business Analyst & financial Analyst, I am confused, which way to proceed, someone told me Business Analyst has to do with IT and programming, while I am a business Student. 😔😔 please make a video on the difference.
I think the main difference between the two is that Financial Analysts focus on interpreting finance and accounting information while Business Analysts focus on the overall business processes of how does the company do things and what can be done to improve it as BA communicates with stakeholders and relevant business department(s).
If the requirements aren't translated properly then yes.. If what the stakeholders have communicated to you is NOT what was coded by the development IT team, then somewhere in between was an issue. Either you, as the BA, did not capture the requirements correctly or the stakeholders did not give you the full details. That is why it is so important to have detailed requirements gathering sessions with the stakeholders and ask them numerous questions!

Hi. You don't necessarily need any IT skills but you do need to understand the logical way of thinking used by someone designing and creating code. By understanding this you are very useful as an IT BA as you understand how technical teams approach requirements to deliver an end product or service and you can work with them. You could get a view into that way of thinking by doing a basic course in any language but look for one that takes you through a lifecycle of how you design and build something rather than just learning the syntax of code. Another approach is to consider any process or product you are familiar with - for example the process of serving customers at your workplace - and try to work out the steps you would need a computer to understand to automate the process successfully.
