My dog passed away about a year ago :( and my neighbors son is autistic, he came over and attempted to give condolences for our dogs passing. I was on my couch just crying and missing my dog, and he came inside and came up to me and said “You will never see your dog ever again.” In such a genuine monotone voice.

I'm 30 years old, diagnosed a year ago on the spectrum. That's how I have felt my whole life, and thought everyone processed social interactions that way. Literally making note of every facial, vocal, and body movement and change, and interpreting what those particular combinations meant. It's been very interesting and eye opening since being diagnosed, learning there is a discrepancy between the way my brain is processing information, and others.

I’m going to be honest, I immediately got on the defensive because I wanted to see where you were going with this but some levels of ASD do have benefits and I’m happy you can see it. The world used to be ran solely on relationships and socialising, which is where we (some of us) struggle, but logic and patterns are starting to be more prevalent. The thing is, they’ve always been there, and we’ve always been able to see them

My autism has definitely helped me excel in my work life, but damn has it ruined most pursuits in my romantic life. I'm a forensic chemist and the math comes naturally to me and I have almost no empathy so homicides don't phase me, but damn when I'm in a relationship it's the toughest thing in the world. I'm just unable to relate to most people beyond the surface level of similar hobbies and that stuff. There's definitely upsides to it, but the downsides really aren't talked about too much. Thanks for the insight Theo!

"homicides dont phase me" haha okeeeeey I think its best for you to either get over your american psycho phase, or if your serious, you should NOT be in a relationship??? Ofcourse its difficult if you cant relate to emotions becasue thats all what a relationship is about................... an emotional connection.... that is established through continuous emotional relating..... Why are you interested in a relationship at all if you claim to be so emotionless? What woman would wanna date someone who "homicides doesnt face"?? Im geniuinly very curious, please explian your thinking if you have a moment. Sounds to me like youd be perfect with just a wank now and then. What exactly makes you want a relationship? Just the practicality of sex, or for the sake of others opinions? Do you want kids? Why should a child grow up with a father who "dont get phased by homicide", cant you grasp the basic fact that kids need emotionally sane parents? That you are simply not equipped to be a father if you dont have feelings, like your describing, it would seriously damage your kid. Or if you dont want kids, why should a woman make that sacrifice for you. Do you want a woman that is emotionless like you, or do you want a real woman and in that case, why should she put up with someone like you? What makes you not do violent crimes, if you cant see whats wrong with it...?
      Please answer :D cheers

Autistics are humans, not computers. That is such a stereotype. I do think you're trying to be complimentary, but you're not giving autistics any depth. They are highly observant and empathetic to the point of almost feeling too much. Yes, it's a spectrum but simplifying them down to one stereotype does them a disservice.

We (autistics) are generally pretty good at recognizing patterns and holding a shit ton of info in our heads all at once, but most of us actually have "hyper-empathy" where you could argue we're too emotional 😅 We just don't express it the same way. Bezos and Musk seem to be on the other end of that empathy spectrum, though 😬 There are definitely subtypes to autism from what I've observed and Bezos, Musk, & Zuckerberg are what I like to call "Cyborg Autists", but we're definitely not all like that. We did invent computers though, so of course a lot of us are going to gravitate to that field 😋 (Yeah, I know this is probably a really autistic reply to a comedy skit, but I couldn't help myself.)

Being a compuman is a term I wish existed before now. It sums so much up about some of the highest functioning people in the world. People say they're crazy and unsocial, I always say theyre a bit further along the spectrum than the average Jim Bob Smith.
I'm glad for this discussion as it raised good points. Don't confuse autism for personality though ...

My son has autism. He's bright, caring, compassionate. Autism makes him talk about 180 words per minute. No one can understand him. I take him to therapy to SLOW that shit down and he does great. He might have a career as an auctioneer. Those dudes definitely are on the spectrum.

Brother that makes the most sense out of any nonsense that I've ever heard I will say one thing about this generation is the need for them to have a sense of accomplishment, to whereas a generation or two back they just quit giving a f*** about doing anything . so I am kind of happy to see how young people at least are wanting to get out there and be useful and helpful again..
