Baking soda and Dawn dish soap can be a very effective repellent against certain pests, but the effectiveness varies depending on the type of pest.
In this video we will show you how best to use these two household products and the types of pests they best work on.
    1.
    Ants.
To effectively get rid of ants using baking soda and Dawn dish soap, you can follow these steps: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap.
Add 1 cup of warm water to the mixture and stir until the baking soda is dissolved and the soap is evenly distributed.
Pour the mixture into a clean spray bottle using a funnel to avoid spills.
Observe where the ants are coming from and their trails.
Look for entry points such as cracks, crevices, and gaps around doors and windows.
Spray the mixture directly onto the ants and along their trails.
Make sure to also spray entry points and any areas where you see ants congregating.
The soap helps to break down the ants' exoskeletons, and the baking soda can disrupt their internal systems, ultimately killing them.
    2.
Aphids. To effectively get rid of aphids using baking soda and Dawn dish soap, follow these steps: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 teaspoon of Dawn dish soap.
Add 1 quart, that’s about 4 cups of warm water to the mixture and stir until the baking soda is dissolved along with the soap.
Next Pour the mixture into a clean spray bottle.
Check your plants for aphid infestations.
Aphids are usually found on the undersides of leaves and around new growth.
When you have found them spray the mixture directly onto the aphids, making sure to cover all affected areas, including the undersides of leaves and stems.
Ensure thorough coverage since aphids can hide in crevices and tight spots on the plants.
Baking soda’s abrasive nature will wear down the outer shell of the bug and kill them eventually.
Whilst soap washes off a protective coating on the insect's body, causing it to dry out.
Spray the solution every 4-7 days until the aphids are gone.
This helps to kill any new aphids that hatch and prevents a reinfestation.
Be cautious and monitor the plants for any signs of stress or damage, as some plants might be sensitive to the solution.
After a few hours or the next day, you can rinse the plants with clean water to remove any soap residue.
This is especially important if you're applying the solution repeatedly or if the plants show signs of stress.
Encourage beneficial insects like ladybugs and lacewings, which naturally prey on aphids.
Also Maintain plant health through proper watering, pruning, and fertilization to make them less susceptible to pests.
    3.
Wasps. To effectively get rid of wasps using baking soda and Dawn dish soap, follow these steps: In a mixing bowl, combine 2 tablespoons of baking soda with 2 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap.
Then add 2 cups of warm water to the mixture and stir until everything has dissolved.
Transfer this mixture to a spray bottle.
Next Identify where the wasps are most active and, if possible, locate their nest.
