I am 72 years old, have not picked a brush since age 14 when my teacher moved me to embroidery classes, because was seen as profitable compared to painting, that created a block that lasted about six decades. I’ve been watercolor painting for a while but I like to watch first step beginners tutorials. I must say that’s about the most appropriate “first” painting I’ve seen on TH-cam. For someone who has never put a brush to paper that would be inexpensive and rewarding. Well done!

But that internal voice telling me how I couldn't do it or I'd be wasting paper/ supplies (such old tapes from childhood!) continued to keep me paralyzed. Discovered your channel before the holidays a promised myself THIS YEAR (2021)! I just finished both parts of your first lesson, pausing, rewatching, and then doing. Well my very first water colour now completed. I thank and salute you Matthew. After 50+ years without ever thinking I might be able to paint, I am delighted with the results. You have given me the confidence to think that yes, I can paint and create a landscape. My wife cannot believe that I accomplished this painting, that looks quite good. i have just completed a very nice watercolour...i have varied it slightly but mixing green and grey and washing it unto the bottom of the paper, below the hills, giving it a sweeping grass bank. i have to say i am very pleased with the result. thank you Matthew.

I have been a very active Photographer for 40 years however due to eyesight problems fine detail and sharpness now elude me.
As a young man I learned much of my photographic composition techniques by studying art and now I find that the impressionistic qualities of water colours are available to my poor eyesight and have re-livened my love of the fine arts.
Although as a youngster I loved art my abilities did not match my desires or imagination.
But thanks to your easy to follow instruction and ability to give even the most ham fisted scribblers (such as myself)
the confidence to attack that most daunting of art subjects the blank canvas I am starting on a new direction of artistic enjoyment

Great tutorial, I am in my 60's and although I have always entertained the idea of learning how to paint I never did get around to it. Watching this tutorial though has given me the confidence to go out and buy some brushes and watercolours because you make things look so easy, Mathew. I needed the very basics to get started. Most assume we know, even tho I sure wasn’t having success. You’ve given me hope!
WOW! Thank you! I spent some time searching for beginner's watercolor videos, but I found that they didn't explain enough or their paintings were way too advanced for someone like me. I have minimal drawing skills, so doing something like this looks WAY easier and fits within my comfort level so I can build on my confidence with the strokes, paint, and drawing skill. Practice, practice, practice! Thank you for these videos! I look forward to starting this as soon as I pick up some more brushes and better paper (I'm using sketching paper and one brush because it's all I have at the moment!
thanks for making watercolors seem less intimidating! i really want to give it a go now and maybe find a new hobby. ive done a few oil landscapes and overall was happy with them but never thought id like to try watercoloring until i came across your videos.
