The impregnation of Mary part sounds suspiciously exactly like any alien abduction story. I'm watching too much X-Files..

That's what I've gotten out of it a long time ago. And there's many people that deduced the Abrahamic angels are like the Sumerian gods, Hindu gods and others, just another interpretation of extra terrestrials. And since it's long been determined that Abrahamic demons were just explanations for diseases, perhaps their angels be the same but for more euphoric effects.

Smash you can never watch to much X-Files. Yes it does definitely sound like the standard alien abduction story. But it does also sound like she was drugged and r@ped and her mind just came up with a story to tell Joseph she may have even believed the story her self. There are all sorts of trauma responses that people can develop after a traumatic event like be r@ped when you are less than sixteen years old (I think she was supposed to be around 12 or 13 years old when this happened). There has been a report out of Ohio that a 10 year old child was r@ped and impregnated and is now being forced to carry the fetus to term do to a judges order and because of anti abortion laws that just went into effect.

We've had several claims of time travelers, people from alternate timelines, etc. since photography came into existence, just that miraculously they either don't give a story that matches up with their predictions of the future (the time travelers), the ones from alternate timelines disappear before they can be documented, the psychics' readings are only as true as the controlled settings they get set in for exposure or whatever their client tells them is true and wants told back, we also lack supporting evidence for all the crypto beings, etc. So while many of these may exist, we just don't have evidence to prove them, and some, like these psychics and time travelers, are obvious frauds.

The total suspension of the natural order of all things---never observed anywhere by anyone---for the benefit of a deranged rabid clutch of avowed virgins or, that a nice Jewish girl might---as all nice girls do---sleep around a bit, tell a lie about how she got knocked up & finally gave birth to an unruly lout who ended up executed for what at the time were considered crime(s). The latter bit requires no interference by mythological forces, and a cursory overview of the Middle East during the last 2 millennia reliably informs anyone that the same sort of thing still happens on a daily basis in the region... men often forcefully having sex with their cousins & chopping off heads for no particular reason.

Think of Gabriel's visit more as Neil Diamond or Urge Overkill singing to Mary, ”Girl, you'll be a woman soon.”
And if the prophecies require Jesus to have a certain genealogy, then he has to be of Joseph's bloodline, not just from Mary's alone.
The truthfulness of Mary isn't the question, though.
It's Constantine's hyperbolic emphasis on the miraculous, in this case based on a purity culture connotation of a woman's virginity based on a word for, ”young woman,” which many languages use similar words for.
Senorita, mademoiselle, miss, maiden, Mädchen, almah, or in the Greek translations, neanis νεᾶνις.
// The Septuagint translates most occurrences of almah into a generic word neanis νεᾶνις meaning 'young woman',[13][14] or to neotes νεότης meaning 'youth',[15] both words being derived from neos 'new' and unrelated to virginity.[16][17] //

Something occurred to me while watching this video… If Joseph and Mary had just traveled through the desert, on a very long journey, wouldn’t that mean that they knew how to survive with very little? Why are they so “desperate“ to find a place to sleep? Seems like they would have everything they need.

There is another "little problem": in the hebrew "kabbala" angels are described as "fearsome" creatures without defined sex - so it must be impossible for "Gabriel" to have sexual intercourse with a human female. Next problem is, that it is also described, that angels permanently send out a blinding and scorching light and human beings can't be exposed to it without losing their mind. - And - at least - the kabbala also tells us, that angels don' t like humans, because god has chosen them as his "first children" instead of the preborn angels... - So, all in all: Not even the best conditions for the meeting of Mary and Gabriel....((😱))

He has discovered that he can stun his victims with a mixture of plants and fungi while at the same time triggering hallucinations.
After administering a mixture of the drugs to Marry while she was sleeping, she woke up in a daze. The rapist then told the deeply religious woman a story about angels and God and raped her.
Result: Today we have a religion based on the child of a rape victim... well, that at least would explain why the Catholic Church protects rapist.

Half of this shit is from one gospel and the other half from another and neither make any sense and combined into the christmas story we all know it's the stupidest story ever.
It also makes it completely impossible for christians to see any literary value in the different ways the stories are written. They all serve a point of emphasizing different things for different people and when you mash it all together there's no point and no emphasis and it's all magical and bullshit and when Jesus died he said seven contradictory things all at once and no one batted an eye, or call for a priest to do an exorcism on the poor confused polyphonic boy.

For the origins of the fictional Abrahamic god...
*Although the biblical narratives depict Yahweh as the sole creator god, lord of the universe, and god of the Israelites especially, initially he seems to have been Canaanite in origin and subordinate to the supreme god El.* Even the biblical Book of Deuteronomy stipulates that *“the Most High, El,* gave to the nations their inheritance” and that “Yahweh's portion is his people, Jacob and his allotted heritage” (32:8-9). A passage like this reflects the early beliefs of the Canaanites and Israelites in polytheism or, more accurately, henotheism (the belief in many gods with a focus on a single supreme deity). *The claim that Israel always only acknowledged one god is a later belief cast back on the early days of Israel's development in Canaan.*
*It is generally accepted in the modern day, however, that Yahweh originated in southern Canaan as a lesser god in the Canaanite pantheon* and the Shasu, as nomads, most likely acquired their worship of him during their time in the Levant.
    *Yahweh in the Canaanite Pantheon*
The biblical narrative, however, is not as straightforward as it may seem as it also includes reference to the Canaanite god El whose name is directly referenced in `Israel' (He Who Struggles with God or He Who Perseveres with God). *El was the chief deity of the Canaanite pantheon and the god who, according to the Bible, gave Yahweh authority over the Israelites:*
When the *Most High [El]* gave to the nations their inheritance, when he separated the sons of men, he fixed the bounds of the peoples according to the number of the Sons of God. For Yahweh's portion is his people, Jacob his allotted heritage. (Deuteronomy 32:8-9, Masoretic Text).
The Canaanites, like all ancient civilizations, worshipped many gods but chief among them was the sky-god El. *In this passage from Deuteronomy, El gives each of the gods authority over a segment of the people of earth and Yahweh is assigned to the Israelites who, in time, will make him their supreme and only deity; but it is clear he existed beforehand as a lesser Canaanite god.*
Yahweh, according to Amzallag, was transformed from one god among many to the supreme deity by the Israelites in the Iron Age (c.1200-930 BCE) when iron replaced bronze and the copper smelters, whose craft was seen as a kind of transformative magic, lost their unique status. *In this new age, the Israelites in Canaan sought to distance themselves from their neighbors in order to consolidate political and military strength and so elevated Yahweh above El as the supreme being and claimed him as their own.* His association with the forge, and with imagery of fire, smoke, and smiting, worked as well in describing a god of storms and war and so Yahweh's character changed from a deity of transformation to one of conquest.
*As the Israelites developed their community in Canaan, they sought to distance themselves from their neighbors and, as noted, elevated Yahweh above the traditional Canaanite supreme deity El.* They did not, however, embrace monotheism at this time. The Israelites remained a henotheistic people through the time of the Judges, which predates the rise of the monarchy, and throughout the time of the Kingdom of Israel (c.1080-c. 722).

On a side note, after such a long (9months, apparently) and difficult (walking is complex, apparently) journey and while they sleep in a manger and Mary just gave birth to a bastard child, her and Joseph's make-up is on point!
Meanwhile: Two shepherds were blinded by a light, because this happened exactly this way and isn't an exaggeration to embellish the story in any way to make it seem like a god had to have been responsible and it couldn't have been a shooting star, and they saw an angel with yada yada light and clothes and hair, it was totally amazing and she had wings and everything, BUTT she ALSO has the EXACT same make-up Mary has! Can't blame her. Mary has sex, is able to fool her husband into believing it's totally fine because it was an inter-species relationship and it has no impact on their marriage whatsoever, and she looks very cute with that make-up. If I were an angel from the same artist as Mary's I'd do my make-up the same as Mary's.
Also, _wise men?_ Witches you don't want to kill are wise men? Witches you do want to kill are witches? Seems a bit arbitrary to me. Then again, Mary wasn't stoned to death for adultery when inter-species rape isn't an exception in Moses' laws, so meh, fuckit.

A 12 Year old Middle Eastern Girl is forced to marry an older Middle Eastern Adult Man, called Joseph. She immediately becomes pregnant. During Spring she gives birth to a Caucasian Baby Boy. The Baby is destined to be called Immanuel, so his parents call him... Yeshua. However, everyone else calls him Jesus. The Father disappears a few years after the Birth. The child is born in Bethlehem, which is why he is referred to as... Jesus of Nazareth. And, because Jesus was born during the Spring, Christians Celebrate his Birth every year around the time of the Winter Solstice. The Mother never remarries, nor does she has anymore Children. She stays a Virgin. Meanwhile Jesus has at least 6 Siblings... somehow.

Situation that's puzzling to me: only two gospels mention Jesus' birth. Matt. puts it around King Herod the Great time ( 4 BCE ), Luke says during time Quirinius was governor of Syria ( around six CE ) ??? Matthew says they had to split to escape killing of first born. Luke says Joe had to return to Bethlehem, for the census ( what if they did a census like that now a days? I'd have to go to North Carolina from Alaska to be counted ). Then there's the part about the wise men ( spies sent by Herod ) in Matthew. In Luke, no wise men in Luke, all about them shepherds and the angel with the heavenly host. Are we seriously talkin' about the same guy here?

What a vile video to show children. There is so many things wrong with it, there is no way to address them all.
The gospels themselves make it clear that Jesus was not the product of immaculate conception. In order to fulfil prophecy (obviously) Jesus had to be from the line of David and so two gospels give his genealogy, albeit somewhat differently. If Joseph wasn't the father, none of it was important and if God was the father, then the prophecy failed because he wasn't from David's line.

The animation is a hot mess 🤣🎄🎅🏻🦌🥁🎁.
The makers put the two different nativity stories of Matthew and Luke on one pile. But Matthew writes for the jews whereas Luke writes for the gentiles. And what a bunch of made up "facts" 🤦🏻‍♀️.
In Matthew an angel comes to Joseph in a dream. In Luke the angel just visits Mary during the day. Nobody says what an angel looks like. Luke doesn't say how many shepherds and he makes them go straight to baby Jesus. Matthew's wise men are astrologists, who've undoubtedly been watching the night skies for some time. But they had little clue about where to find Jesus or they would not have sought out the ruler of the land to look for him.
Luke also makes Mary put Jesus in a manger because there wasn't room in the house. What is translated as 'inn' was nothing more than 'spare bedroom', probably in the house of one of Joseph's relatives. So they went into the partition of the house where the animals were housed. Matthew doesn't even mention the census and they never went searching for a place to stay.
And so it goes on and on. I don't know how I managed to get it so wrong myself for decades. But when you're taught a story in this manner at a young age it sticks with you. That's why I rather teach about Santa Claus because it doesn't matter to be correct there. It is an ongoing fairy tale that can be tweaked from year to year and even from book to book. Just as long as he brings his presents all is well 😂😂.
Happy Boxing Day and may the New Year bring all you hope for and provide you with the opportunities that make your endeavours succeed 🥂🍾🌠

But no one did nothing because they're all respectable and good people and we need cohesion more than truth, or good mental health of victims. Looking back at the time they lived in I can't even really blame them for wanting a strong family/community over the health and safety of an individual, but holy shit, maybe carve a mace and sleep with that in your bed.

Namely her fiancé. That seems more likely than a relative as I did specify a betrothed virgin, which is what Mary was according to the Gospels. Assuming the story is in anyway accurate, it would account for Joseph going along with Mary's claim.
Which is more likely, two young people getting up to hanky panky before the wedding* or a complete suspension of the natural order of things?
      I say the former.
*Apparently, in many parts of rural Judea it was quite common for betrothed couples to have to wait for a Rabbi to come and perform the marriage ceremony. Thus, it was quite common for the girl to become pregnant before their marriage.

Good point. Probably because the option didn't occur to me and I think the story says that Mary told Joseph about the baby/rape and that this was news to him that she needed to explain to him for it not to be adultery. But sure, it could've been a discussion about how to proceed with Joseph knocking her up before marriage.
And it's the bible, how can you knot assume the worst and most ridiculous and exclude the most logical? I don't feel guilty about that :p
But honestly, these are ad hoc possibilities. I don't know why I excluded Joseph as an option. Knowing myself, it's probably the latter: assuming the worst and most ridiculous from the bible :p
But you're right, if it's not all fiction, it's likely Joseph's child. That would explain why Mary wasn't stoned to death and why her horseshit excuses were accepted as true.
Given how much later these stories were written, I have to go with: complete and utter horseshit though and I see no reason to include Joseph as an option because it's too bland. Makes for an even worse story than it already is. I gladly accept that Joseph is a cuck :D So even when I consider real life options as explanations, I really don't consider any of the characters real or human. I don't really care to be that consistent unless we have reason to believe that the events described and the people in it are real.
For all we know they were already on their way to a place they had no reason to be and the donkey got her pregnant and Joseph made up the angel bit to make it seem like a more acceptable interspecies love triangle.

When I was a kid, I was taught Santa as a fun make believe story. I think if the story of Jesus was taught in the same way, parents and kids could have fun with it. But even when parents tell kids Santa is real, at least they are okay with the probability that the kid will eventually discover he isn't. Jesus on the other hand....
But maybe the people who wrote the script for this animation don't believe the Bible is true, because otherwise, if they thought their god was watching, they wouldn't have changed it so much.
According to the story in the Bible, Joseph, for example, didn't just accept what Mary told him. Instead, he was planning to end their relationship quietly so she wouldn't executed for what he apparently believed was a lie. But then he had a dream, and dreams are always true of course, so he married her.
The original story doesn't say it was a beautiful glowy angel who talked to them as they calmly listened. Otherwise, the angel wouldn't have had to tell them to not be afraid. Then, seeing they hadn't fainted yet, a whole gang of angels appeared and started singing. When did the angel tell them to go tell everyone? All I see in the original story is that the shepherds decided to go look for the baby.
The wise men came on the night Jesus was born? The Bible story doesn't say that. Instead, Herod supposedly had every baby up to 2 years old killed, "according to the time he had determined from the magi," or, "based on the wise men's report of the star's first appearance."
There's more, but I didn't write notes because I don't actually care if they changed it. But if they think the Bible is the word of their deity, and tends to be the case, THEY should care. I just wish they had ended by having the camera zoom into the star, revealing that it was really Tinkerbell.

The whole story is interesting, and the idea of not judging something by its roots is really lovely… but I still can’t subscribe to a faith without science. Ugh. Also, my father is Mormon, so perhaps your kid can tell him to stop being scary with the Bible stuff haha 😂

It might help to point out that each gospel was written with a different aim. Matthew and Mark wrote for the jews, Luke and John wrote for the gentiles. Mark and John let the vocation and anointing take place at Jesus's baptism. Matthew and Luke make Jesus anointed from birth. Matthew, Mark and Luke emphasize Jesus's earthly ministry, John goes full spiritual.
Among the synoptic gospels Matthew and Luke lean heavily on Mark. Mark was the first gospel to be written and had a different ending (at Mark 16:8) in early manuscripts from our current version (Mark 16:9-20 added). Mark was closely followed by Matthew and Luke. John was written quite some time after that as a result of people noticing that Jesus's generation had died and he still hadn't returned.
You could also point out the genealogies in the gospels. They deviate from one another. Matthew plays a magic trick using the numbers 3 and 7 (a multiplication by 2), and still manages to be off by one (41 generations instead of 42). The gospel writers are familiar with the Tanach and use motives from it to build their own story. Like the key figures Adam and David, and the Babylonian exile after the temple was destroyed the first time. They make Jesus says he will destroy it a second time and rebuild it in 3 days. They can make Jesus say this because they wrote their story *after the fact* (the gospels were written between 68-110 CE and the temple destroyed a second time in 70CE).
But from experience I know it's always difficult to try and argue with someone who is deeply indoctrinated. I wish you well with the interaction with your father.

@@DutchJoan That will absolutely not help at all. While that is extremely interesting to people looking at the bible for what it is, to believers, most don't give a shit about the authors. In fact, alot of them think god literally wrote it or that the chapter names are the author.
To break through to culties deeply indoctrinated, they have to be at least a little intelligent. That is just the prerequisite. Ain't gonna change billy bob's mind about his imaginary friend is all I'm saying.
Second, pointing out contradictions can get their gears turning.
Lastly, and this is actually what made me an atheist, *read the Bible yourself.*

Did anyone else not the change in pronouns for Gabriel at the beginning. First "it" was all in white, then with wings behind "him ". Was the angel male or ungendered? We wouldn't want kids to get the idea that angels could be female, would we?
Seriously, angels are supposed to be ungendered in Hebrew mythology.

It makes a lot more sense if the angel appears in their true forms, eldrich horror like beings with the most humanoid having six wings covering their head, and feet (last pair to fly) and many angels having many eyes, or several heads of different species, or just being rotating rings of eyes, very fun. However most of the time they appear as humans (often not even WINGED humans, just...guys) and they still start like that...maybe out of habit?

So, here's what the Bible actually says (the original documents, not the mis-translation that everyone says is real)
    Joseph was Jesus' father.
Mary was childless (not a Virgin)
Jesus would be called the Son of God
Jesus never called himself the begotten son of God, but called himself AND EVERYONE ELSE the Children of God
Now we have a story about an ordinary bloke who milled about preaching about God. He started to gain a following and those in power saw their influence decrease. So, they killed him.
So, now it all makes complete sense. Cool story, bro.

It’s so funny to think of the real, and more likely story if it actually happened (which there’s no good evidence that it did). The story we see and hear: Mary was a willing and courageous servant in God’s son’s saving of the world. The more likely story: Mary wasn’t a virgin and effed around on or with Joseph (before marriage) but fabricated an elaborate story to get away with it. No one bought it except gullible Christians during and after Jesus’ life. When I was a Christian, back in 2008 in rehab with a Jewish roommate, I remember my Jewish roommate said something so true yet obviously offended me at the time: “Do you know why Jesus thought he was the son of God? Because his mother was Jewish.” Lol

Huuh. That original sound doesn't sound creepy *_at all._* Sounds exactly like someone trying to grooming a victim. Also, it seems about 90% of that narrative is nowhere to be found in the bible or even contradicts it. And -- why is this taught to kids? May I remind you of the example of Catholic priests? Yeah. (That could have sounded very different? Why, would the "adult music" make it sound ok?)
The narration does not even match the pictures. "Joseph walked behind them." Except he's only shown beside them.
Wait, female angels? I'm sure I'd have noticed those if they were in that book or any secondary or tertiary source I'm aware of.

What is my point about teaching these things to kids?
If parents teach kids in any religius ways (except, when you explain them that adult people are believing in bullshit like gods, angels, etc) (kid=under 18/21 years of age), you should be concidered as a child abuser, and your kid should be taken from you, and you should go to prison for at least 10 years. No matter what religion.

The story of Christmas is about how the Romans celebrated Saturnalia, which took place in December, from the 17th to the 23rd(it grew to this length by the first century). They celebrated the god Saturn by basically having parties, feasting, and giving small gifts, as well as the customary animal sacrifice. The story of Christmas then continues to when Constantine used Christianity to grab power for himself and rule all of Rome, banning his own gods to adopt another, changing his peoples' holiday into another religion in order to get people to convert faster. 'See? We still have it, we will just call it something else and say we are celebrating one thing even though that one thing didn't happen at that time of year. Easy Peazy.'
That is the story of Christmas.

"The three wisemen were aware of the prophecy of Jesus". Christian writers of documents (designed to control the narrative of christianity), did everything they could to tie the "story of Jesus" in to known passages in the Old Testament, that were being repurposed from the original meanings, to make them fit this new dogma. Otherwise, the whole story would unravel. Jewish worshippers apparently still don't believe there is a connection, but Christians have bought the story completely.
