I'm in Krakow right now, let me know if you need a tour guide :) The Old Jewish District is amazing, as well as the Planty park that sorrounds the Main Market, especially at this time of year :) There's a small restaurant located on top of the Music Academy (Sw. Tomasz Street - a block from the Mariacki Church). Once you get there; the view of the city is really something special.
As a Cracovian I'd say I never ever saw a mold beer in Poland. That's something really new. Mold wine - sure, but mold beer I saw only in Austria and it obligatory goes with an egg's yolk inside. 1241 the old Kraków (established around 500's BC after Sarmatians razed the previous one established around 2100BC) was razed to the ground by Mongolian army, and rebuilt 16 years later (1257), that's why in late 1200's there were only several non-wooden buildings (there were many buidings, but most were wooden).
Yeah it was really interesting!! By the end of the night it had kind of grew on us haha!! That is so interesting. Thank you for the information and for watching :)
Not sure about Krakow, but mulled beer is definitely popular in Greater Poland and Silesia in winter, the problem is in many places (especially focused on catering for foreign tourists - so yeah, Krakow) they have no idea how to do it well and start with wrong beer in the first place. It should be strong dark sweet-ish beer sort - like Kozlak / Baltic Porter or any kind of Bock / Doppelbock. The spices are similar like in German Gluhwein, but you can add some honey to make it sweeter. It's really tasty - typically less sweet and with less alcohol then mulled wine.
If you're heading south to Zakopane from Krakow, you may consider a slight detour for an hour or two and visit the city of Bialka Tatrzanska. There's a hot spring spa called Terma Bania where you can enjoy some ice cold beer or mixed drinks while sitting in hot pool, which becomes even more special if it's snowing because the pool is outside.
The performances are mainly on the weekends. Over the weekends the market is packed. My wife and in-laws and myself went out to the market on Sunday and they were having the performances.
