I was thinking “woah how did Dan know this is where I am in my Friends rewatch” THEN I remembered that Thanksgiving is a real thing and not just something invented by the Friends writers
Homemade cranberry sauce and store-bought cranberry jelly are two entirely different things, and you are correct that the latter bears no resemblance to real food. It is also absolutely essential to Thanksgiving, so well done you for picking the correct one for the sandwich.
On some brisk Thursday in November, hundreds of years ago, someone asked "what if bread pudding were dinner instead of dessert?" and we should all be thankful for that guy.
for what it's worth, the thickness is quite easily solved by gravying the stuffing instead of a third piece of bread, which is what i do with my thanksgiving leftovers in a near-identical sandwich, well done
not me SCREAMING when you put bread into gravy and I realized this is gonna have not only 2 slices (that's already too much imho) but also 1 more slice AND stuffing with bread. this is Big Bread indeed!
Pro tip is to slightly warm the stuffing and gravy, put stuffing on the sandwich, then pour the gravy over it so that the stuffing/gravy is the moistmaker combo, PLUS you get a bit of a hot/cold contrast if you're into that vibe, and you save the carbs of that third slice of bread.
would highly recommend adding green bean casserole to the sandwich! if you make it right it's a flavorful counterpoint to the other foods and it feels nice to have some sort of vegetable.
Years ago, some friends of mine invented Friendsgiving, where you have a feast with your friends on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This means that A) people who are having Thanksgiving with their families will still be able to come to their friends house, they won't have to miss it B) people who couldn't be with family on Thanksgiving don't have to be lonely and sad because they will be embraced by their friends a few days later C) people who don't really like the idea of Thanksgiving per se can still enjoy a feast with their friends and D) anyone who has way too many Thanksgiving leftovers can bring them to Friendsgiving to share with an appreciative audience. It seems that in more recent years, lots of other people have independently invented their own versions of Friendsgiving. You have discovered what may be a new form of Friendsgiving - where you aren't that into the idea of Thanksgiving, but you do really like creating recipes based on Friends!
Wow, I have never seen cranberry sauce in a tiny jam jar! The "bears no resemblance to real food" form of cranberry sauce we have in the US comes in a what my people call a "can" and you're people call a "tin", and when it slides out, it is shaped like the inside of the can - a wobbly cylinder with little stripes around the top and bottom (but it's on its side, so the top and bottom of the can are now the front and back of the sauce cylinder). Do a Google image search - you'll either be fascinated or horrified, maybe both!
Sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole absolutely can go into a thanksgiving leftover sandwich - they add the je ne sais quois of a classic thanksgiving to something that is otherwise just a Christmas dinner sandwich
Phew, that’s a moist chonker of a sandwich. I missed a few seasons of Friends and don’t remember this or the trifle, but these videos are very fun and educational.
If the concept of sweet potato casserole with marshmallows doesn't appeal to you, same. There is a slightly less common but still well established version of sweet potato casserole that has a pecan topping instead, which I personally think is much better, though I understand some people feel very passionate about the marshmallows.
We are also a pecan household, which I wayyyy prefer. More texture! Nuttiness! My husband, however, love the marshmallows, so we leave a marshmallow corner for him.
@@DanLayton hope you enjoy it! As a fellow rocket disliker, the two things from pret I love are their prosciutto baguette, and the Swedish meatball wrap.
It’s 5:42am I’ve had a pretty bad nights sleep and have to continue fasting for a blood test until at least 7am when the earliest place opens. So watching this video was a poor torturous decision.
Too much butter?! Sacrilege! Since I am vegetarian but not vegan, and mashed potatoes are my favorite element of a Thanksgiving dinner, my housemate used to make epic mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving. She put so much butter in them that we started to call it "mashed butter". There was also heavy cream. And truffle oil. Then I would re-enact that scene from Red Dwarf Bodyswap...
If you are ever in the US (well, maybe just California) and you want to make a Thanksgiving leftover sandwich for your vegan friends, you will a wide variety of fake meats to choose from! Wait until after Thanksgiving and pick up a frozen Tofurky or a Field Roast Celebration Roast on extreme post-Thanksgiving sale. Vegan gravy is included in the package.
So I had it warm. In my head I imagine Monica has warmed the gravy to aid with the soaking process. Although now I feel perhaps it isn’t so much “soaked” as it is “coated”
I'm ngl I don't always agree with Ross but I'd be angry about the sandwich too. Like that guy just took it and ate it without even asking or giving an excuse. Who the hell just eats somebody else's lunch?
Cannot wait for the defense of Ross Geller video, I will become violently ill if I have to see another Ross Is Literally Satan article written by someone managing to completely miss the point of a sitcom character having funny flaws
if you're looking for a good burger place, burgerx on holloway road is the best - no word of a lie. personally love going after an arsenal match, but for you I might want to say avoid a match day :)
lol. If he wants it to be real American, it can’t be real food. My family and I make anything from scratch….other than the lazy person who buys a pie from Costco.

Please don’t stop the Friends food content. Cheesecake from Mamas Little Bakery, Chicago, Illinois next!
I need to know if it’s a real place and make a pilgrimage
or Emmas birthday cake...? You could chose a lucky birthday having friend's face to print on it :))
You actually enjoy cooking for people and you can find good bargains. That's properly impressive.

Any time Dan puts out a food related video I realise just how much I love these
On some brisk Thursday in November, hundreds of years ago, someone asked "what if bread pudding were dinner instead of dessert?" and we should all be thankful for that guy.
I shouldn't have watched this hungry and pre-dinner because now I know whatever I have will not live up to what I want right now
I so understand this dilemma
for what it's worth, the thickness is quite easily solved by gravying the stuffing instead of a third piece of bread, which is what i do with my thanksgiving leftovers in a near-identical sandwich, well done

Finally someone who understands the joy of a bit of cold quorn roast

I heard about this and I'm still BLOWN AWAY that the sandwich ACTUALLY WAS BROUGHT INTO EXISTANCE... Might have to try this now!
Congratulations on channeling the chaos that is every Thanksgiving dinner ever.

I was about to say the same thing but you beat me to it! Glad I'm not the only one sitting here thinking "ooh, a jar, how fancy!" Haha
“A lovely chunk of beige” is just a metaphor for America
I dont know why I expected this but I always imagined at least A vegetable in there
Beige is the true way
It didn’t even occur to me that I wanted to see someone test this - your cooking vids are always the best
Ahaha that gravy attempt is far too relatable
Welcome to the Sunday dinner leftover sandwich club Dan, great video!
Sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes and green bean casserole absolutely can go into a thanksgiving leftover sandwich - they add the je ne sais quois of a classic thanksgiving to something that is otherwise just a Christmas dinner sandwich
"If I wanna get into the spirit of real American thanksgiving it can't bear any resemblance to real food." - And then you use Bisto.
I opened youtube with the exact thought ‘god I’d just love a Dan video rn’ low and behold not only a dan vid but a COOKING Dan vid. yes please.
the only thing that throws me with Ross' sandwich is that it was in the fridge, i feel like it needs to be a warm sandwich, specially the gravy
There should be 'Has the nowt moist?' merch
I'm watching this as my mom is preparing a mini post-Thanksgiving meal. Perfect timing.
I live a simple life: i see a new daniel j layton video, i click it.
Phew, that’s a moist chonker of a sandwich. I missed a few seasons of Friends and don’t remember this or the trifle, but these videos are very fun and educational.
Season 5 for the sandwich, 6 for the trifle!!
My sandwich?! MYYYYY SANDWICHHhhhHh
A treat of a video :)
Another big bear hug of a video. Happy sigh.
This is so comforting. Love it!
LOVE the way you're integrating the sponsorships...so much more character compared to just doing the ad bit at the beginning/end like people often do!
Congratulations on making your Monday night Raw debut! Sandwich looks tasty
I love your food content! And that was a masterful sponsor segway lol
just got broken up with and this has cheered me up no end, thanks Dan
That's rough... Hang in there, things will get better
I’m very glad to have been here in your moment of need!! Grab the ice cream and binge watch Masterchef, it’s what I do…
I watched this while having dinner and now I'm still hungry.
why in my mind did I always picture the moist maker with the crust cut off? I wasn't picturing Big Mac.
absolutely stella work that looks delicious
The dedication! *single tear*
Just when I think I can't admire you any more, you hit me with that "shop-hopping" strategy. YES!!
Honestly, it takes more time and energy and maybe it’s not worth the few pounds saved but I feel SMUG
Oh it's very satisfying. All the little bits do add up though, and it's super noticeable around festivities and parties!!
Well this was a joy.
Wow that Edith sounds like she’s got the right ideas!
lol that sponsor transition is great
My god, I left home after thanksgiving craving a kale salad and also not needing to eat for the day
You're invited to thanksgiving next year to get a firsthand experience if you want.

There is a slightly less common but still well established version of sweet potato casserole that has a pecan topping instead, which I personally think is much better, though I understand some people feel very passionate about the marshmallows.
agreed on the pecan topping, the marshmallows are too sweet and drown out the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes!
We are also a pecan household, which I wayyyy prefer. More texture! Nuttiness! My husband, however, love the marshmallows, so we leave a marshmallow corner for him.
Oh yesss more Dan. This was a lovely comfy video Dan, thank you!
Pret's baguettes are frustratingly rocketey, but their boxing day toastie is excellent, and their Christmas sandwich was also pretty good.
I’ll have to try that toastie…
@@DanLayton hope you enjoy it! As a fellow rocket disliker, the two things from pret I love are their prosciutto baguette, and the Swedish meatball wrap.
As an American this is borderline a different language.
watched this at work on my lunch break. worth every second.
Honestly, “Videos to Watch on your lunch break” is my exact niche
god i am glad my mother is currently in the process of making a roast because this just made me hungry
I wasn't ready for how thick the gravy was gonna be.
I mean, I am Northern.
Digging the shoutout to Scousers everywhere 🔥

I’ve had a tofurkey, it was FABULOUS
@@DanLayton I knew you were a man of good taste and refinement!
Something tells me ad Dan sounds a lot like "we just found out cm punk is back" Dan
Would you believe Ad Dan was before Punk Dan, and the pair of them have double teamed my voice box into submission
@@DanLayton oh bless you. I hope they ease up on you soon
Wow, and you actually properly soaked the bread. Babish could learn a thing or two.
I promise I will indeed be good to my sandwiches!
I for one am shocked that you did not already own the Friends cookbook
get well soon, Dan!
i was supposed to be revising for an exam for tomorrow morning, but it can wait.
Give yourself 12 minutes of rest and then RIGHT BACK TO WORK WITH YOU
i may have not passed this one @@DanLayton
Really enjoyed this! 😊
We can now truly see why Ross was pissed 😅
Honestly, I really empathise with him now
oooo very excited for this one :D

Thanks for not ripping into me for calling it a “Christmas sandwich”
Some things get lost in translation, but not this sandwich 🙏🏻
Ahhh yay! :-)
Ngl, I'm happy for you and your Friends sandwich but when you dunked a slice of bread into gravy I had so many questions and concerns
That is quite literally the recipe
Dan! I need to know. What temp was the gravy when the bread was soaked in it?!
So I had it warm. In my head I imagine Monica has warmed the gravy to aid with the soaking process. Although now I feel perhaps it isn’t so much “soaked” as it is “coated”
@@DanLayton thank god. This is only how I can imagine it but Ross almost definitely had it cold right?!

now be honest Dan, that sandwitch or the just fuck it?
This sandwich. Hands down.
