- I finally have the 8181 Round Toe in Hawthorne Muleskinner Leather. I have been trying to track this boot down for some time now and I am so happy to add it to the collection. The Round Toes' construction makes the boot an everyday walking sensation...ok maybe that is a bit much but you know. Once broken-in these boots have the comfort level of a sneaker.

And now that I've watched the video, yeah, round toes seem to be the most comfy boots ever. I also prefer how they look much more than the rovers, especially once they're broken in and have the nice creases on them. The rovers are still a nice Red Wing boot, but I feel like they lean more toward "everybody else's" boot design rather than that classic, rugged, yet somewhat elegant look that Red Wing boots normally feel like in my eyes.
I have to ask; you have such a passion for Boots does that passion extend to other clothing items? Specifically I am thinking leather jackets. I fell in love with quality leather jackets long before I did boots. So do you like/own nice jackets? I am thinking Aero, Eastman, Bill Kelso, Goodwear? If you did you could make great videos showing them as you do with the boots.If you don't, then why not?! Thanks
One of my favorite pairs of Red Wings. I absolutely love the color. I changed the laces to brown on mine though.

CJ, nice vid and theres another version of this roundtoe, the hawthorne muleskinner 8151s. Got it from RW Singapore :) loving it! Indeed, roundtoes are so comfortable out of the box.
They really are super comfy!
I'm suprised the rovers aren't your favorite. Same last as the blacksmiths. I like that the round toes have a little arch support pad. Had my local cobbler add them to the my rovers. Rovers are a little softer and have a little more flex in my opinion. Both are great choices. Best to just buy them all like our man cj here!

Great video CJ! I have non red wing question for you. The grey chinos you wear towards the end, where did you get them from? I’ve tried and tried to work out the brand you mention, but I can’t quite make out what you say.

Love the 8181's. I just picked up the 8167's, might let them age naturally, might slap some mink on them. Decisions decisions

They do/ did make that boot with the leather reversed. It's called Hawthorne Driftwood model 8199. 👍
69 medium lol. I saw a pair of those off ebay when i got the abileens from the rack. I liked everything about them,speed laces darker leather but the were about 50 bucks more and from ebay so i went for the safer cheaper bet In hindsight i should have done the muleskinner.Great roundtoe Cj.I did the mink oil on the abileens and was suprised they turned out ok. Be a boot!Take Care.

Which one do you think is better? 8181 Hawthorne or 8824 Olive Mohave?
I don't think you could do wrong with either boot. I own both. I wear the 8181 more simply because they are broken-in.
