I hope you enjoy this last video on the Panhard, it has been an absolute joy every step of the way. We may see it again in the future as I improve upon it but for now I'm just very happy with how it's turned out and overwhelmed at the support and love from you guys, without your help in spurring me on I don't think I could of done it so give yourselves a pat on the back you deserve it. I'll see you in the next one!

Great stuff and well done chaps, looks like the front floor was replaced on yours previously btw. That o/s front area, is quite important, as there are 3 screws that fasten the engine & gearbox subframe to it. I've seen these collapse and the whole front end rotate and it's a lot of work to fix. I'll pop over and adjust that gear linkage, because those changes are something else :)

About the Steel: Yes, older Cars use much lower grade Mild Steel, nowadays we would classify as Structural Steel. In terms of tensile strength it is worse, but it is much easier in general to work with and you just add material to get the desired strength.
Modern Cars are made from much higher Grade Steels and usually the steel is harder and more elastic while the thickness is reduced. It allows for lighter, stronger bodies at the cost of paintability (no problem if you galvanize anyways) and weldability.

Excellent stuff, time to get my welder out again inspired again, right what needs "speed and rust" attention. And as for mission welds I just turn up the wire speed to max and just keep adding then come back and fix later with some hot weld. Fire extinguisher at the ready (usually my 6 year old with a watering can) thanks for the videos.

Hey man! I've been watching your series for a while and it is absolutely amazing how you could turn this beaut from rust to running. I could have a tip for you that would prolong your car's life as it is. I recommend you brushing on the floors some rust converter like Kelfos or something quality that turns rust into protective layer, and once it's dry you could buy a few buckets of vaseline and paint them all over its floor (maybe heat it up and spray into its elements as well!). It is a much cheaper alternative to automotive wax and it pretty much does the same job. Just drive it on some dusty roads afterwards and there you have it, your hydrophobic undercoat! Ever wondered why cars don't rust where they have an oil leak? Same reason really. You can redo it periodically, and best of all, you don't have to clean the old grease layer (no prep needed, just brush the new layer over). It's gonna have a uniform black texture in a few weeks of driving. You can also pour/spray thick oil into the rockers and other elements to prevent inner side from rotting. This technique 100% works and it kept my 43 years old Dacia 1300 rustfree and it's a daily driver car.
Drive safe and keep up the good work. Keep this girl running and back on the road!

Most people would have passed it by and just scrapped it but you have totally brought her back to life
And as a fellow petrol head I do believe some cars have a soul and this one is no exception she wanted to live and you made it happen and no surprise she was the star of the show !!!

What Dickie said about the steel I very interesting. Though, usually the steel changed during the war. I don't know about Britain (or in this case France) but in Germany the "good steel" was completely used up during the war. It's very rare to find old production machines, tools, .... but you can tell the difference.

Now just drill 4 drain holes directly underneath the each sill, spray Ardox AV30 aerosol upwards into the rusty inner sill area, wait a week then do it again. Then follow this over the top with a single coat of Dinitrol 4941 Black. I promise you it will wax-treat, disperse water from and preserve your Panhard forever. These two are expensive but permanent. Nothing else on the planet works. I have years of experience using both thsese products as above. It is like magic. Even on very rusty parts. The AV is unbelievable at converting rust back to a black, sealed condition. It doesn't take anywhere near the time you've already expended with the welding. They are both made by Dinitrol in Frankfurt.

Thanks for sharing the whole epic journey. I don’t know if anybody else reacted to the indicator lights issue but this is a tiny bit of experience from my side. LED lights have very little internal resistance. To tune them to a conventional system extra resistors have to be included to bring the total resistance up to a conventional bulbs values. These resistors are then added into the plug and play disks you bought. Still the LED’s themselves are the elements which are the most sensitive to deviations. I’d suppose the earthing of the indicator took the easiest route here and interacted with the other side through the chassis. Improving / making the connections by letting the bonnet touch was just enough to bring the system back into balance. Electrics, eh?! 🫣😁👍

Oh, Ben !. I honestly get why you did stuff the way you did, but…., I think I would have cut that bad metal out of the floor and sills before overplating. Also, not sure about the lights, surely, Land Rover or old mini or Morris lights would have looked more period ?. Anyway, enough of my criticism, great video, love your content and love these long videos and, it’s great that you even decided to save this old girl, most wouldn’t, including me.

Only 25 minutes in, running late for an appointment and I just checked… nearly 2 more hours!
Well, that’s going to be something to look forward to, for tonight.
I’m sort of sorry it’s coming to an end. This car has become a character and almost an ambassador ( no, not that Ambassador!) for the channel. Would like to see more and follow its exploits from here on.
But, after reading some of the other comments ( I know. Stupid much?) I already know it’s a happy ending, so congratulations are in order.
We had a harvest festival here, over the weekend, so we couldn’t go to the UK and see you and the Panhard, as we’d hoped. There were some pretty nice cars there, so not a total sacrifice. One absolute rarity was a Datsun 100A that drove in and had no holes in it! I didn’t believe there were any survivors of those!
Anyway, gotta go. Well done and hopefully we’ll get a chance to see her another time

Old cars generate a feeling you just don't get with modern cars. It's the designs, the quirky features. Modern cars are all the same and don't give you that giddy feeling, yes a lot safer but in terms of deep down enjoyment old cars are brilliant.

I dont have any words that you haven't already experienced, but, this sir is a testament to you and your hard work. You should be very proud of yourself. That poor little car wants to live, its always wanted to live, it just wasn't given a chance. Until Ben. Bravo sir, bravo 👏🏻

This was an amazing achievement. I love this little Panhard so much. I think I would try and sort the rust at the windscreen pillars just for structural integrity, but I can see how that'd be a pain in the arse to do. Something to do over the winter when it isn't driven perhaps.
I wish the person who bought this car new was still around and could see it being revived and driven again.

On the steel, i worked for 30 years in a car factory press shop, we used japanese steel early days but now its french. Todays steel is far better quality and more malleable so it can be drawn to shape easier.
We did trials once on chinese steel, it was very cheap but i guess it was recycled stuff, we couldnt make panels with it as it split everywhere. The older steel probably on your panhard will probably be thicker than new steel . This also makes it easier to weld to.

Just a little tip. If you need to weld the floor, the easy way is to lift the car up on it's side putting some tyres under for it to lean on. I've done it many times.

Used to change Mini SubFrames over on their sides back in the 70's - 80's.

I just finished watching another TH-cam about restoring a Panhard. But that one was a tank, a literal tank, with cannons and guns. I do love watching restorations of any kind. I just got a chuckle out of the same name thing.
