Anything is possible, but prognostication this far out is usually wrong. Last year at this time, everyone was saying that we would take a step or two forward, but Ottawa and Buffalo were a few years ahead of us in their rebuilds, so one of them would be the newly credible team in our division, challenging for the last playoff spots. How did that work out?
I dont listen to negative talk. Go Red Wings!
They’ve taken a step forward every season under Yzerman. I also think Yzerman is going to make a big move or two this offseason. I wouldn’t bet on regression.
Agreed. If anything, it wouldn't be significant enough to be too upset
I do not disagree. The expanded salary cap will certainly help, and I can see THIS season as the season where Yzerman makes a move at the deadline to improve the team if they are in a standing where it makes sense to do so. I have. Been a “Yserplan” supporter to this point, however I see this year as the true trial. 99% of the old contracts are off the books, almost everyone is now his guys, it’s time show show up.
@@TrevWire gonna be an exciting year!
Honestly I feel like the 25/26 season will be when Detroit really shows up. The bad contracts that yzerman signed as a stop gap come off the books or on that last year which makes them easier to move. Rookies in the ahl will be more likely to move up same with Cossa. Rookies overseas will be in the ahl and available if needed. I think yzerman has to deal with this year with the same goaltenders maybe a new vet. I don’t like it. U don’t like it. But it would be pretty tough to move husso. So if yzerman can bring in a top 6 center or a top 4 rh def this off season. That would be a win for me
At the beginning of the season, it’s extremely rare for a fringe NHLer to be claimed off waivers, especially if the player has a subpar camp.
Kane wasn’t on the team at the beginning of the year when Detroit was having its hot streak. He can be replaced if he moves on.
Goaltending is always the wild card. Have bad goaltending your season is tanked.
If they meant "regress" in terms of pure standings, sure, its quite likely. Buuuuut, if they meant "regress" in terms of building a cup contender, this is NOT likely to happen.
If mortz and Raymond ask for to much to early they could make us another Toronto. They probably deserve it but we need more cap room for a team full of super stars not just the top 4 or 5 plays than the rest of your team has leaks
Wings are still a good two or three years away from being really good, we got a goaltending situation that isn't gonna be any better next year
I have to agree with duffs position on lalande and lack of defense. Ive been screaming that for 2 seasons. You cant win with no defense. Its why i also think this is his last season to prove himself. Red Winger for life lgrw
It's possible. The team has steadily improved over the past four seasons, but there's also the reality that you eventually hit a ceiling... and if meaningful changes aren't made to make this team better, we very well *could* regress. That means removing Holl and Copp (be it via trade or via buyout), and making moves that just improves our chances of making the second season and showing that we *are* a playoff team.
I don't see them buying out Copp with three years remaining on the contract. Next year I could see Detroit either buying him out, or trying to trade him with salary retained.
This last jump to playoff contenders from fringe playoff team is usually a hard one. Prospect wise it would probably take till the 25/26 year for some of them to join. By that time a lot of those bad additions would be off the books or easier to move since it will be their last year on contract. I think a win for Detroit would be to come out around that 91 point range again this season. Maybe squeak into the playoffs. Luckily the bad contracts yzerman signed were not terribly long
All legit. Also take into account players like Perron who may or may not be there, erratic and spaced out play of Copp, looking for more production from Compher. Threats like Sprong probably won’t be in the Winged Wheel next season. Could be a very different team than the one we watched and at times made us believe that the swagger had returned to Hockeytown.
Every team has at least 5 reasons that could lead them to regress…
Would usually rather see a team win 1-0 or maybe 2-1; in overtime. Defensive battles and goaltender duels are favorites over here.
I don't mind regression as long as at least one of Kasper or Danielson are on the team, Edvinsson is on the team, and Johansson doesn't spend too much time in the press box
They need a goalie
Yup, like Buffalo and Ottawa. Montreal are the best placed in that dept in those 4 teams nearing full rebuild, all in the Atlantic division is what makes it real tight.
We need defense. Sender isn't bat but he's not living up to what he was billed to be. Too many plays where he gets too cute and turns the puck over. As a defenseman, you just can't be only even on giveaways and takeaways. Our defense corps needs a lot of help. We need a goalie too but defense is the biggest issue.
Seider*
Best prospect pool in the NHL
The idea of growth focused only on total points not the long-term health of the club is where this is off a lil from reality.
There was one valid point out of those five the defense is trash on defense, so who cares about his PP production? Lyon Reimer same save percentage you’re basically saying the Red Wings aren’t going to get any better whatever other team will that makes zero sense. Everyone fails to realize that the majority of the people are on this team stopgap until our high draft picks get there so there’s that as well.
If the Wings keep those same players who flat out didn't show up late in the season either on defense or offense, in my opinion they will regress and not do as well. They need to make some trades or place players on waivers, and begin to bring up their youth and be extremely careful resigning multimillion dollar contracts to UFAs.
What worries me is the Wings are already starting to run low on cap space but still have a lot of holes at almost every position (top 6, defensemen, goalie). Bad contracts could come back to bite them if Yzerman doesn’t get rid of some of them in the offseason. Better hope these prospects work out.
For reaaaal. Copp, chiarot, holl and petry (he’s not as bad) also tired of hearing about ghost, I love him, but hardly any of his points were on 5v5 and he hardly plays any defense.
I say trade Copp and chiarot, free up some cap, if nothing works out next season, bye bye lalonde (he’s not my favorite coach if you can’t tell.
At the end of the day, LGRW🔥🔥
@@jjgaming6204 There are plenty of contracts coming off the books after this season. Fabbri will be gone, Petry, Maata. Chariot will only have a year left, making him more easily moveable. I think Copp with two years remaining with retained salary could be easier to move as well. The cap will likely continue to go up as well. I'm not really worried about Detroit's cap situation beyond this year, assuming Seider and Raymond sign decent contracts.
Its highly likely they regress next season, unless they pull some big moves. Complicating it is they won't have the cap space for big moves without other moves first. I fully expect this to be a more transitional season as youth get moved up. There are several that should be able to make the transition this coming season, and it will help the Wings with the cap as well. I hope we don't lose Ghost and Kane, but we easily could and that's 100 points gone with no clear cut addition.
While the Wings have good perimeter offensive skilled players they are too small and too soft and play terrible team defense.
The wings had their problems but I still watched most of their games last year. They won't be serious contenders any time soon. I'm fine with that. Been watching them for 3 decades. I knew one day they'd have to rebuild. Can't wait for October.
I've said it since about the time we drafted Raymond and I stand by it today, Red wings win a cup by 2030.
@@icedo1013 I still think we're 10 years out from a cup. That would put Seider at 32 years old.
If good players leave, they might get worse. That's just a fact.
no doubt they will stink up the league again next year lol
buffalo and ottawa will both pass them, great article 😂
That's not an argument
@@jonathanlong4066 😂
Wtf lol
Lmao what? If they somehow do then Yzerman and Gru need to go
