The translation from the yiddish is as follows: It was Rosh Hashana (The Jewish New Year) when the Baal Shem Tov's soul ascended to the celestial realms ever higher until it reached the chambers of the righteous Messiah. The Baal Shem tov asked the Messiah "Master when are you coming?" to which the Messiah answered "I will come when the wellsprings of your teachings are spread far and and wide"
Messiah is on his way- have you ever heard of Hasidic Jews there are thousands! They all live by his teachings! Some are in boro park, ny. some are in Williamsburg,ny. and some in Israel
I just started listening to Matisyahu like 2 weeks ago and his music speaks to me so clearly it helps give those of us that are down a hope for the future... Thank you Matisyahu!
Are you kidding me people? This IS Matisyahu. I fell in love with his One Day song and listened to all his Reggae and loved it. Just because he has more freedom to do what he wants now, doesn't mean he's selling out or forgetting himself. He's doing what he truly wants to do now, and so he doesnt't have to make you happy or anyone else for that matter. all he wants is for everyone to love one another, so quit bickering about him. cuz that's not the point.
even more so, do most people here know who the Bal Shem Tov is? He's essentially the founder of Hasidic Judaism. This song can be considered Matisyahu's ode to the Bal Shem Tov for giving him such an amazing to path to follow--and now he acknowledges that there must also be one's own individual to follow past his religious roots now engrained in Besht's philosophy. Matisyahu is still there--he is simply reaching out past his religious roots now. But those roots are still there.
This is a great song. Matisyahu produces great music. There is nothing to complain about here. It's ok if you do not enjoy listening to this song as much as his old music. That is your opinion. It says nothing about Matisyahu as an individual. We should not try to change others; just as the song says, we all are seeking our own path. It takes time.
3rd stanza When I returned to the lower garden I saw many souls living and dead Rushing back and forth Descending from one world to the next The joy was too great for ears to hear or for words to express All will be forgiven for stolen time and debts Ask me to come with them cause of the glory of Your contemplation
I feel exactly the same way ambrose, Live at Stubbs will never be dublicated but that passion and musical stlye is why I fell in love with Mati, Bring it back and stay true to your roots!!
2nd stanza [Chorus] This is the time of divine favor Sublime love cuts like a razor Burning up our fear and pain Ascend in fire like a laser beam Search heaven and the seven seas The answer lies inside you You know it won't come easy You've got to find your own truth
This is Great! It seems that Matis is succeeding at anything he's doing musically. That's true talent, and I'm with him all the way! No reason to listen to anyone else b/c he has music from every genre for me haha
he mentioned recently that this album was extremely inspired and he knows his fans were expecting the dub styles like from his collab with Dub Trio and that his next CD would be that style
1st stanza On a day when a man was born, up from one world to another I don't know who You are, even when we face each other When I wake up I know You're here this is everything that You've done I've got nothing to fear cause the battle's already been won.
It's a section of the Baal Shem Tov's letter regarding his ascend to Heaven on Rosh Hashana where he met and spoke to the Moshiach. Unfortunately I don't really speak Yiddish so I can't translate it verbatim, but that's about what I gathered from the parts I did understand.
Oh trust me, I definitely know. I've been in their shoes before, basically losing what used to mean so much to you. And I have a huge emotional bond with Matis' music, if he started swearing in his music I'd be wrecked. Because THAT'S who he is to me, the embodiment of love, hope, and peace; in a celebrity nonetheless. But that's the thing. As long as he stays true to his principles, who are we to judge? Music is an art, and Matis is just trying out a new brush.
Can I just say, I totally appreciate how Matisyahu himself put up all of his songs, knowing full well that people can illegally download them from this site? Props
I am surprised how similar Jiddish is to German. As a German I can understand about 50% of what this guy is talking before the song starts. Any other German thinking the same?
4th stanza You've been given eyes to see lookin' for a prophet to accompany me Alone I am so alone flying with my very own set of wings I reached the highest heights knockin' on the door of the King of Kings [Chorus] It's your life to live, I can't live it for you It's your time to give and I can't give it for you It's your fear to lose, I can't lose it for you Death or life so choose and I've put both before you So find your word of truth you've got to find your word of truth ...
This sounds amazing. I must learn more about this, I'd appreciate his songs so much more if I knew more about his faith. Thank you for your responses =)
Even if the background sound changed maybe not for the best, the voice of mati still the same and therefore his music still as reggae as it was in 2006. And Whatever people say the spirit of mati still present by the lyrics and voice. Stop arguing and appreciate...
I totally agree. He fell into the pop trap. The labels wanted money, they wanted him to preform on Shabbat, and to let all the "baggage" down. He got fooled by society, Matis, come back!!! Don't let everyone see you fall for the pop persuation, peyos and beards are in style, especially in jerusalem and boro park :)
I don't know if this is coincidence or what, but I think it's interesting that Matisyahu produces this song with "Shem Tav" in the title because the book of Mathew (Matisyahu) was discovered to be written in Hebrew documented in "Shem Tav/Tov's Hebrew Matthew". Like I said, odd coincidence? Hmmm.... and it is of course about Mashiach and so is this song... well at least the beginning. I may be looking into it too much though XD
If an album is too similar, people complain because it's just be regurgitated, if it's too different, people complain. Just enjoy it, if you don't, then don't listen.
“Conhecer alguém aqui e ali que pensa e sente como nós, e que embora distante, está perto em espírito, eis o que faz da Terra um jardim habitado.” make love not war,be happy every time you can, dont forget the clock is counting and dont go back,PEACE 4 ALL OF U.
The Besht is best! :p (Ba'al Shem Tov means 'Master of the Good Name' in Hebrew, it is often shortened to the first letters of his name- Bet Shin Tet, or- Besht.)
Everything is everyone's opinion. You make it sound like we shouldn't complain at all. If people didn't voice their opinions, we'd have a pretty boring world. I'm pretty sure everybody knows, he's going to do whatever he wants to regardless of opinions.
for all the die-hards that r disappointed with the way it sounds, just remember. youth sounds nothing like shake off the dust. light sounds nothing light youth. live at stubbs 2 sounds nothing like the original. spark seeker sounds nothing like light. why so surprised? his next album is supposed 2 b dark and made with dub trio. again, completely different. this album has good guests, great music from around the world and makes u feel happy to be alive. enjoy it for what it is, not what it isnt.
Google "stories of the Ba(a)l Shem Tov". (It means "Son Of The Good Name") Mostly folkloric tales about a rabbi in Eastern Europe/ Turkey from Medieval times. He's the founder of "Hassidic" Judaism, a mystical sect that Matisyahu was/is? affiliated with.
Can you please translate the words about the messiah at the beginning of the song? I know messiah is in there, but what does it say? What language? I am thinking Hebrew. This is the time of divine favor. The answer lies inside you. Love it.
i feel like you're downplaying the reggae it's still there if you listen and it's probably more noticeable on the other songs, I've heard the album, but this music comes from a different place than those other bands you mentioned and that's also what makes it special
Well I guess I can hear it, but what separates this and the others is the theme. This songs theme is quite mystical and spiritual, while those are merely psuedo-philosophical at best.

Amen to that but also absolute torture!
@@kelz3322 how so
Messiah is on his way- have you ever heard of Hasidic Jews there are thousands! They all live by his teachings!
Some are in boro park, ny. some are in Williamsburg,ny. and some in Israel
There are some in Casa Grande Az as well.
God ❤loves us so much. We are so lucky to have Him ALWAYS
I just started listening to Matisyahu like 2 weeks ago and his music speaks to me so clearly it helps give those of us that are down a hope for the future... Thank you Matisyahu!

Only one ☝🏾 truth , the middle. The Torah my love . 📖
Don’t forget. Words create matter.
This is a great song. Matisyahu produces great music.

What poetry he speaks in his music, just beautiful
"is the time of divine favour, sublime love cuts like a razor, burning up all fear and pain"
3rd stanza
When I returned to the lower garden
I saw many souls living and dead
Rushing back and forth
Descending from one world to the next
The joy was too great for ears to hear or for words to express
All will be forgiven for stolen time and debts
Ask me to come with them cause of the glory of Your contemplation
"This is the time of divine favor, sublime love cuts like a razor"
It’s true 💘
I feel exactly the same way ambrose, Live at Stubbs will never be dublicated but that passion and musical stlye is why I fell in love with Mati, Bring it back and stay true to your roots!!
I am proud Matisyahu not only represents his religion, it represents the whole world a more beautiful way.
I agree with you, it's what made him so distinct. He still has the same message, which is commendable, but I also miss the old Matis :(
I think it's a nice change. He's having fun and the words still have deep meaning. Good job.
Oh the ending is so boss... I can't wait for this album.
Right! So cool
Omg the ending. Omg it is amazing.
Top five of matisyahus songs. hands down
open up your ears and clean out your eyes, thank you matisyahu
Love his music, and I believe the way he does :) Yahweh's coming back!

This is one of my most favorite songs, I love

i dont understand why people compare the old music to the new. to me it all sounds great and belongs on one GIANT matisyahu playlist!!!
This is amazing! please come to Lowell again this summer! Last year you were incredible!!
i agree with you completely but i love Matisyahu and i will never stop listening to his music! but i do love the reggae style more.
Well, I still love it :) A genre doesn't define good music.
I played this for my children while they growing in my wife then when they were born 9 years later i can hear it and instantly sing

I miss the random lines of Yiddish that no one understood but still sang along with
I agree with Afonso's comment, but I have to say, this is a pretty good album. However, I do miss the old Matisyahu.
A friend let me know its Yiddish. So, who then can translate the words at the beginning and end of the song? Love you Matis!
Amen :)
My Jewish friend introduced me this fellow. Pretty cool,
:MasterPiece:
The Funny thing is i as a German can actually understand what he is saying ^^
Can you please translate the words about the messiah at the beginning of the song? I know messiah is in there, but what does it say? What language? I am thinking Hebrew. This is the time of divine favor. The answer lies inside you. Love it.

Hi! Please tell me where can I find music like 4:40. Thanks!
Yiddish.
It's Rabbi Zalman Schachter, not Reb Menachem.
its the Rebbe Menachem Schneerson speaking about the messiah coming.
Well I guess I can hear it, but what separates this and the others is the theme. This songs theme is quite mystical and spiritual, while those are merely psuedo-philosophical at best.
Matisshiah
So little views and likes for an artist this BIG???
Not an Illuminati artist like most popular artists, that's why lol
@magicteen1 --- you saying Matisyahu is the messiah? ;)
