Are you kidding me people? This IS Matisyahu. I fell in love with his One Day song and listened to all his Reggae and loved it. Just because he has more freedom to do what he wants now, doesn't mean he's selling out or forgetting himself. He's doing what he truly wants to do now, and so he doesnt't have to make you happy or anyone else for that matter. all he wants is for everyone to love one another, so quit bickering about him. cuz that's not the point.
even more so, do most people here know who the Bal Shem Tov is? He's essentially the founder of Hasidic Judaism. This song can be considered Matisyahu's ode to the Bal Shem Tov for giving him such an amazing to path to follow--and now he acknowledges that there must also be one's own individual to follow past his religious roots now engrained in Besht's philosophy. Matisyahu is still there--he is simply reaching out past his religious roots now. But those roots are still there.
This is a great song. Matisyahu produces great music. There is nothing to complain about here. It's ok if you do not enjoy listening to this song as much as his old music. That is your opinion. It says nothing about Matisyahu as an individual. We should not try to change others; just as the song says, we all are seeking our own path. It takes time.

Oh trust me, I definitely know. I've been in their shoes before, basically losing what used to mean so much to you. And I have a huge emotional bond with Matis' music, if he started swearing in his music I'd be wrecked. Because THAT'S who he is to me, the embodiment of love, hope, and peace; in a celebrity nonetheless. But that's the thing. As long as he stays true to his principles, who are we to judge? Music is an art, and Matis is just trying out a new brush.

Even if the background sound changed maybe not for the best, the voice of mati still the same and therefore his music still as reggae as it was in 2006. And Whatever people say the spirit of mati still present by the lyrics and voice. Stop arguing and appreciate...
I totally agree. He fell into the pop trap. The labels wanted money, they wanted him to preform on Shabbat, and to let all the "baggage" down. He got fooled by society, Matis, come back!!! i feel like you're downplaying the reggae it's still there if you listen and it's probably more noticeable on the other songs, I've heard the album, but this music comes from a different place than those other bands you mentioned and that's also what makes it special
Well I guess I can hear it, but what separates this and the others is the theme. This songs theme is quite mystical and spiritual, while those are merely psuedo-philosophical at best.
