    I bought one, I've had it for a day. Its great. I have an Essence trim, for under $30k, I didn't look at much else other than the Subaru, which I felt was just too unattractive for me to want to drive. The leather seats are harder than they could be, true. The stop/start is annoying, although there is now a device which you can purchase to defeat it (with apparently some impact on remote start). The interior is gorgeous to look at, and the technology is honestly all you'd need. None of the reviews mention it, but at night, the metal trim on the dash has an invisible line of light, I don't know how, you can't see it in the daytime. But at night it illuminates and is very cool looking. The Essence package is a must, if you ask me, as the switches at the trunk to drop the seats alone is worthwhile, plus it includes the leather and a better infotainment screen.
    I did not get a sunroof, I have an Audi with a sunroom, and some leakage. I don't want to deal with that in 10 years. I did not get driver confidence package one or two. Don't know what I'm missing, so I guess I don't care. I did not get the "sights and sounds" package, so no Bose stereo. HOWEVER, the speakers still say Bose on them, and the sound is unbelievable. I am deeply suspicious, I wonder whether ALL of the cars have the Bose sound system. It would certainly make manufacturing easier. Then for an extra little bump in price, or a bargaining chip, the factory puts a "BOSE" logo in some cars. Dunno, just spit balling.
    If you, like me, are looking for a versatile vehicle that looks terrific, and can still haul the occasional something or other, while also going to the slopes (but not off road), put bikes on top, skies on top, etc., then I don't see that there's a better bang for your buck. Now if I had $100k plus for an E63s wagon....

      Spencer - now that you've had your TourX for a while, can you provide an update? I'm seriously considering this car in Essence trim but was concerned about driver comfort on 5 hour+ road trips. I will be putting 40K miles/year on a car, and the TourX is a much better option that the outback for someone who will only be driving on road.

    • @midnight4109
      @midnight4109 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need the high end Essence model with as many packages and accessories as you can find. The basic car doesn't cut it, like many others out there. But the Tour X is in a class by itself. We also opted out of the moon roof living in the south with the hot sun, but enjoy the safety of both driver confidence packages. My preference. The BMW 3 series wagon is probably the best alternative, except for the price!

    I bought this vehicle last week for my wife. It was a big jump from a Yukon XL, but she absolutely loves it. We bought a 2018 fully loaded for 29.9k with tax 32.2k out the door. The dealer seemed to be fast paced to get this one off the lot. This is a great vehicle that GM should advertise more. Why wife absolute loves it.
    I don’t see the SUV comparison, it’s certainly a wagon. I think it’s more comparable to a Volvo or Allroad.

    I think the interior criticism was a little harsh. Remember this car starts at $29,900 and comes with standard AWD and is huge compared to the other wagons. It also looks good.
    Put it this way, when you consider the fact that a BMW X1 or Audi Q3 can almost hit $50,000, paying $40,000 for a car this big is something to really consider. Especially since Buick is advertising taking 16% of the MSRP as we speak.

    • @MrMrich69
      @MrMrich69 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He bitches about privacy glass, which many sedans also don't offer that either, and thus forgetting that this is a wagon which is based on a sedan model. Besides you can get an excellent aftermarket window tinting package than what a dealer would charge for this option were it available if you decided it was a necessity.

    At lot of folks are saying that this doesn't compete with Subaru because it doesn't have offroad capabilities. There are tons of people who have no intention of going offroad but buy Subarus (specifically in the Northeast) because they know it's a reliable performer in snow. Some of those people can afford to buy more car than a Subaru, but don't want to pay for an Allroad, Sportwagen or V60. Maybe Buick wants to sneak off with that specific set of customers?
    I would not buy this new, but think it would be great as a preowned low mileage option. I may consider it in 2020 or 2021.

      The Opel is a wagon. This is a lifted version with suv styling added and it is often marketed as and compared to SUVs. Just like every other wagon from Europe that is lifted 1-2 inches and sold as an SUV in America due to Americans hating wagons and obsessing over SUVs

      For some reason SUV's are the biggest sellers while sedans and wagons have been left in the dust. That is not the case in Europe and it doesn't make sense here in the states but consumers can't get SUV's out of their minds. I have owned 2 SUV's and prefer my Tour X to either of them. Go figure.

    This car is great. I never knew it existed until I had an Uber ride in Europe and I instantly loved it. When I returned stateside I went for a test drive. Then I was shocked when I checked the price. Fully loaded price is around $40k+, which is insane. That's a price of an Acura RDX and so many other SUVs that are way above this Buick/Opel wagon. Interior on this car is very *entry* level luxury, so it should have been cheaper. That's why left-over 2018 models are now selling with $10k discounts. Now it is a great car for $30k fully loaded.

    • @Steve-uw5bf
      @Steve-uw5bf 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good points...I bought a top-line TourX a few months ago loaded sans pano roof (didn't want that) at a freaking amazing price. I refuse to pay $40k+ for ANY new car, including the RDX (I traded an '07 RDX for my TourX), and I'm an Acura fan. I find TourX interior more than nice enough - and functional. I don't need it for high tea. I use mine for spirited driving, camping/hiking, road trips and hauling my bikes and dogs around. On that note, TourX has great dynamics, and is definitely road-trip comfortable + much quieter than my Acura. Great looks, too. Best of all, it's not a tall SUV and *those* complaints are what's silly. This is a car, people. Remember those?!
      I shopped Subies and tried to like them, but not for me...and you see them on every corner. Most of us drive on the road 100% of the time, and a *very* small percentage go "offroad" (read: somewhat unpaved road to trailhead parking lot that's easily navigable in cars) - a few times a year. I can tell you that my TourX will get me to the trailhead exactly as well as my AWD RDX did. TourX AWD is also great in deep snow (5-7" to date). Great job, GM - you hit this one out of the park. Now just get the msrp right and/or give it the marketing it deserves.

    • @midnight4109

    Since the Audi was mentioned, I built one online with heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and adaptive cruise control. $56,000....which for a smaller car and will probably be less reliable of course the interior will be nicer. $56,000 for a compact wagon!
    I also built an Outback with similar options. $39,064.
    I’d say this is right on the mark with equipment and interior materials. I just picked mine up with a MSRP of $40,500. However with the 16% sale and another discount ended up around $32,000. I’ll take it right to the bank.

    He also says "it's too low" TourX is a car not a Jeep, in fact I'd lower it .5" and remove that unsightly roof rack BS. For marketing Buick should consider calling it a "shooting brake" or "combi" in some of their adverts. He also disses TourX for not having dark tint rear windows, I hate tinted windows.

    This wagon is an "Euro GT mobile" as in Gran Tourismo oriented.
    You said well its not for off roading, its for superb traction on marginal roads or gravel roads.
    As an analogy from Cycling categories, if this were a bike it would be a "Gravel Bike" not strictly a Road Bike or Mountain Bike...

    I don't think I care much for vented seats. I would still buy this despite that small thing. I seen this at the L.A. auto show and it looked great and the fact that the rear seat does have ac vents is fine enough with me. As far as the windows....tint them lol...tint the windows now barely cost $100 if that and the manufacturer way of tinting a window in other brands is not dark enough to block the glare of the sun. Every car has hard plastic at any given place so it doesn't matter and why do people care if the dash is hard plastic or feels soft? Are you sitting on it? Are you going to have a desire to touch something soft? 'Hey I think I want to touch my soft dash for fun, it is that time of day!' Lol...people are stupid

    • @thatsanicepicture2
      @thatsanicepicture2 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Soft touch plastics do much more than make you finger feel good. They stifle sounds and this car has a lot of them. Drive one of these then an Outback, Jeep Cherokee or Grand Cherokee at the same price point. Those are real off road ability cars. TourX is not. This is a great family car at the base price. Don't take it off road. And yes. Get the windows tinted.

      Ray A I agree with you. I just leased this car a few weeks ago and have no issue with the materials. I’d say 50% are hard plastics while the rest are soft touch; however, I can tell you in the two weeks I’ve had the car, other than perhaps while I was sitting at the dealership and considering reviews like these, I’ve never laid my hands on the dash, center stack, or door panels. So with that, who cares what is soft and what is not unless it’s something you plan to touch each time you drive the car?

    • @socalguy97
      @socalguy97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Dale Smallwood I disagree. This car does NOT have a lot of sounds. I was able to have a whisper-quiet conversation in it at highway speed and with three other passengers inside. The sound deadening materials used are profound with all Buick’s and this one is no exception. It was like riding in a casket, which for me, I love.

I'm also a CarGurus fan...bought both of my vehicles using the site. That said, this review of the TourX is one of the worst. Chris just isn't a car guy. Did he actually say "SUV"? Over and over, even? And he thinks it should look more like an Outback. (Note to Buick/Opel engineers: Ignore this guy.) What is so difficult to understand about a 4WD wagon? its very quiet for what it is - but agree about the roof rack wind noise changing the character of the car when attached. drivers coming "down" from previous Audi ownership may be disappointed a bit by the interior, but others coming up from Subaru or Honda ownership will be pleasantly surprised. The car is in a class by itself, as long as you aren't looking for a more upscale luxury wagon, even with the packages and available accessories, which I mostly recommend. The BMW 3 series station wagon offers more but at about twice the price of the Tour X. I have found through experience that high end German cars have complex suspensions with potential maintenance issues which the Tour X is not prone to and still a near luxury German design. The Subaru Outback is more SUV and also more expensive to buy and to operate. Those are the 2 closest. Living down south, I opted out of the moon roof, too much heat potential, especially considering the glass on the side windows, as you have pointed out. The car is maybe a bit plain on the interior but extremely well thought out and functional, not to mention the comfortable and supportive seats, and not objectionably cheap looking, my opinion. Getting a bit up there, I chose the two driver assist packages, especially since this is my wife's car and we are a bit concerned about her driving. She wasn't crazy about any of the other cars we looked at but liked the near luxury look of this car and was blown away by the test drive. Best of all, there are absolutely incredible year end deals on these cars. I don't know why such a well made alternative to a sedan or SUV isn't selling better!

    I would like one (base model) if: 1) did not have the black rubbery-plastic wheel arches, 2) came with tinted windows (if you live in the southern part of US, tint is important), 3) was FWD, don't need AWD where I live, and was about $25K. It would make a good touring (long trip)and camping car. Nice try Buick-Opel, but no cigar.
    Good review.....I doubt you would choose this over competition. 🤔

      @@Steve-uw5bf There is no wheel option here in the United States. The carpet was kinda dumb, glad it got adressed. I drove one and they went down the middle too much. It's not slow or fast, super comfy or sporty, rugged or pretty. To sell it here, 2 inches of ground clearance and bigger wheels would probably double sales. Not with me, necessarily, but in general. Thanks for the input.

      @@davids1816 I agree with you on the 2" more of ground clearance, and also the fact that it's not for me, either. That's true about the single-choice wheel in the US, which is really a shame as the Euro and Oz wheels are super sharp. I also agree with you on neither slow nor fast, but I'm good with the power on it, and also for me it feels pretty comfy / sporty enough for what it is - a large wagon. People are modding them right now with tunes and lowered suspensions to make them true Eurowagons, which is also very cool.

    A lot bitching going on here. I had the pleasure of driving this car myself, fully loaded, and it was an amazing place to be. I have no problem at all with the interior materials. They were perfectly tasteful and what some people are calling hard plastics, I question your acumen. There were plenty of soft touch points, and I don’t know who spends their time sitting in their car feeling up their dash, door panels, or their center stack. LOL. My only complaint is about the cost for all of the extras to get yourself to a fully loaded model. I think that Buick is wrong to nickel and dime people for items that are standard on so many other cars. However, Lexus and BMW do the same kind of nickel and dime price packaging for the same tech and safety. I should know, I researched them. If they can do it, I guess why can’t Buick? In terms of this being an Opel, who cares? Doesn’t the company have the right to rebadge for other markets? Doesn’t Honda do this with Acura? Doesn’t Toyota do this with Lexus? Don’t many companies rebadge and it’s perfectly acceptable? In terms of what you get for the price, get an American Express card and then use their Auto Purchasing Program. On a $41,700 version of this car, my out the door price, if I choose to go through with it, is going to be $33,000 and change. If you ask me, that’s a hell of a deal for a very nice car that, in my opinion, is leaps and bounds ahead of Subaru and could be considered in the territory of an entry-level BMW or Audi.

      Dale Smallwood, even better. I have no trade. I’m leasing my current vehicle. I went through (as I said earlier) the Amex Auto Purchasing Program. It’s the benefit of card membership. You do the search through them, they find a participating dealer, then they give you a receipt with a barcode with the final price that you take to the dealer. This is before a trade is even considered. The savings are close to 8500. I realize this isn’t an option that applies to everyone, but it apparently does for me as an Amex cardholder. I’d show the receipt if I had a way to post it.

      Nope. Not a Outback person. Not rabid either. But I did get an extended drive in the TourX and it has no claim to off road capability. It is way to low... I wanted this car and hounded the local dealer to get it in ASAP. But it had to be what they were pushing it as... At least a crossover. They are the people (GM Marketing) that said it is a Outback competitor... I just isn't. AND it is expensive in the Essence trim and a few options that come included on cars with a lower price point. Great car in bad weather I'm sure. Don't go off road.
      Also if you would like a few of those nice options you have to get the Essence trim. It's the only way to get the driver confidence packages (there is two ) for a total of just short of $3K.
      However if it's a beauty contest the TourX has the outback and most (all?) other wagons beat. It is gorgeous . Really really pretty.

    I think used Toyota Venza is a better deal. But at least Buick tried. Car companies can't afford niche product anymore, it seems. They only produce what there's a strong market for anymore

    Tinted rear-side windows on the TourX would be illegal in New York State. It’s based on vehicle classification. Know the law before you comment.

    That interior is embarrassing. Malibu has less shiney black plastics. Eww. Not for 40k. So happy Chris touched on this and didn't give it a pass and told the truth. Cost cutting is all over. I mean no ventilated front seats?

      Blake Swan, I saw this car at the LA Auto Show and drove one last weekend. I’m sorry, but I don’t see the cheapness or cost cutting everyone is talking about. The materials seemed perfectly fine. I would argue it’s at the Audi level. Just my assessment of it having driven it. What is it that everyone wants? A dash and console draped in suede?

    • @socalguy97
      @socalguy97 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Blake Swan, Speaking from the perspective of an owner, you are wrong. I agree there would be concern if you were trying to judge the materials quality based on what you see in the videos here. However, I don’t find the materials to be bad at all and I think I’m a pretty good judge because I drive this car daily. No, they are not BMW quality. They are not even Lexus quality. But I would say that they are on par with what you find in the Audi which I did test drive and not far from the Volvo. They are also leaps and bounds ahead of the Subaru, which I didn’t test drive but I saw in person. Believe me, you are not driving a Malibu when you drive this car. It’s definitely a step up from that and other truly mainstream brands.
