    Great tutorial! I have already made two manhattans and i am currenty sewing the Essex dress. Mercer will be the next.! Your tutorials give me the confidence to buy the patterns!     Awesome tutorial, Christine! This is very comprehensive! I like both views but I definitely prefer long sleeves on pretty much any top I wear so it’s great that there is that option here! Enjoy your weekend!

    Hi Christine! I recommended your patterns to my local fabric shop (Harts) and I got the Mercer (yay) and I want to extend it to make a dress with an A line to highlight the fabric I have (a Japanese wool (crepe i think) with a comic on it that is great...). I would love to hear any recommendations you have to do this in a way that honors your design!

      Hi! Oh that's great! I love Harts - you're so lucky to have them local to you! Your fabric sounds beautiful. I actually wrote a blog on extending the Mercer top: sewingandthecity.com/hack-the-mercer-top-into-a-dress/
      I think you could also make it a slight a-line and it would be fabulous!

      It would be, but I wouldn't recommend it for a first project. The biggest challenge would be the facing and easing in the sleeves.
