I’ve always felt Marceline was much more of real Main Street idea that Walt had but after now visiting Fort Collins it’s obvious quite a bit also cane from Colorado . A melding of the two . I’m still team Marceline all the way tho for a better vibe of that Main Street USA feel

You should be a Disney historian because you seem to know a lot about it.

Thanks for showing Fort Collins. I have never been there, but I can see some of the connection to Disney as you pointed out. To the best of my understanding, the original inspiration for the Disney World train station was from the train station in Saratoga Springs, NY. It burned down in 1899 and is now a movie theater, but you can still see remnants of the old tracks near by. Saratoga Springs was also the inspiration for Disney's Saratoga Springs resort.

It's 1951, and Harper Goff is in London, England at a miniature model train store. Goff fell in love with an old-time locomotive - he decided he had to have it for his collection. The shopkeeper promised the locomotive to another man who was to come by the store later that day. Goff returned to the same store that afternoon and the man who was interested was also there. He introduced himself to Harper Goff. "Hi, I Walt Disney". Of course, Disney didn't know who Harper was, but Harper knew who he just met. They started chatting. Goff mentioned that he worked as an artist and also worked in movies. - now. (this is paraphrased from Colorado Life magazine). However, as we might guess, the rest is history. At some point, I will drive up to Ft. Collins and do my own video based on the article. Great video! You certainly caught the Main Street vibe of downtown Fort Collins.

Thank you Adam for covering the past few days in Colorado! I’m a native here and live in FoCo (Fort Collins). You did everything justice, especially the Stanley and Fort Collins. My mom was good friends with one of the prior owners of the Stanley. My mom just passed away within the past couple of weeks so these videos helped bring me some happiness during a sad and difficult time.
Sorry that your Coors Field visit stunk. Beautiful ballpark overall and so unfortunate that a single individual ruined what should have been a nice evening at the ballpark. If you are ever in the area again feel free to hit me up. I’ll go with you to the ballpark.

FoCo is our home!!! So awesome you made it to do the downtown tour!! We’re always inviting people to come visit and do the Harper Goff history tour! It’s such a cool connection! Wish we had known you were coming through! Sad we missed you! Awesome video! Love that you visited the Dam store too! Such a good tourist trap!! 😂Love that you found the Harper Goff mural! It’s full of little details that tell the story of Goff’s life including how he met Walt and the contributions he made to film and the parks! Glad you found the jungle cruise boat and the fire house 5 shout out! There is also a submarine from 20,000 leagues and a tribute to his contributions to Willy Wonka. The Walt and Goff conversation is a reference to how they met when they both went for the same model train in a London gift shop in 1951. The old firehouse bookstore was the architectural inspiration for the fire station and the Nature’s own gift shop was the inspiration for the emporium. They think that coke mural wall would have contained a mural of some kind in Goff’s childhood days. You will need to come visit someday when the Birney street cars are running! One of our favorite summer time activities and they give a great history shoutout to the trolly days! Welcome to Wyoming with the 60 mph winds!!! 😂😂 Fun little stop Adam! Love that you made it to out to our neck of the woods!

Yes that’s what the street cars were called! Fun story, my mom used to ride it as a young girl and went to the movies on the street car. She and some friends went to a double feature of the classic Dracula and Frankenstein movies - this was in the 1940’s. They had to walk home in the dark because the street cars stopped running! To this day she will not watch those movies!

Then off 2 Nebraska. Still there. Thank you 4 letting us join you. Very interesting. My bucket list would 2 go visit Ft. Collins again. I have a sweatshirt that says, Where it all began Fort Collins Colorado. There is a empty space towards the bottom & my wife wrote 1969 there. Have a blessed night. Be safe out there. Because of the Jackalope comment, I went into a TH-cam rabbit hole and watched a clip of Dave Coulier playing the Jackalope on America's Funniest People, which was co-hosted by Arleen Sorkin, the first actress to voice Harley Quinn, and found a video of her playing a harlequin-like character on Days of Our Lives, that influenced her college buddy Paul Dini, who was creating Batman: the animated series to create the character of Harley Quinn. Thanks, Adam!

I grew up in Fort Collins, and as a teenager have trod those old town streets many times. I had no idea that it served as a partial inspiration for a Disney World theme park, nor did I know who Goff was, though I vaguely remember seeing his name here and there, in old town from time to time. So thanks for that, as I learned a lot from this vid.

I was watching your video and saw in the middle of the mural to have the city of Houston logo. Ok had a chance to watch the Fort Collins part! I never realized that Disney used parts of old town for Disneyland! I’ll have to tell my mom! I didn’t see the firehouse in your video but when I was there 25 or so years ago for a family reunion, it was pointed out that it was where grandpa worked. This would have been in the 1940s. Mom lived there until she was 13. The firehouse is now a historic landmark. There also used to be a historic trolly that you could ride and my mom remembered riding it as a young girl. I believe it was electric but I’m sure around the turn of the century it was horse drawn. My grandmother also grew up there so she might have ridden the horse drawn version. I still have various 2nd cousins and their families there.

That Chris Bates mural was amazing, might have to look up more pictures of that later to catch all the other details. Definitely recognized the Disneyland City Hall influence from that Happy Lucky's Teahouse building, similar in shape if not in detail, and just a bit more fancified with that grande ole Disney flair. You can almost imagine where Walt's lamp would be by the window over that teahouse awning. Lovely. Edit: Well the lamp is at the firehouse but its a bit more square so I'm mashing buildings together myself here as I look at things👍

I live in the town of Severance about 16 miles due east of Ft Collins. I’ve been in every place you showed. I absolutely love living in this area. The Dam Store in Loveland, the road up the mountain to Estes Park where the Stanley Hotel is (you can’t get a good night sleep there because the kids are wandering around the fields with flashlights ghost hunting and scaring themselves). The reason why there is so much going on in FC is because of Colorado State University, the #4 veterinary university in the nation. Oh I could go on. This is a wonderful place to live. People play that piano if they feel like it.

I lived in Fort Collins when it was really great. In the 90's. Affordable and much less crowded.
I can't even afford to live there anymore.

That building that gave you a train station vibe and is now a bookstore is an old fire station. The track that you showed on the street was used for the trolley.
I grew up in Fort Collins

Looking at the mural of Harper Goff and seeing all the little details reminds me of looking at the Tree of Life and trying to see all the animals. 🤔 I have to think that Ft Collins has changed a lot over the last 70 years since he took pictures. It would be interesting to see what they looked like. Enjoy your trip.

Great you seen my home town of FOCO. You were so close, the best Disney shot is that bank on the corner you were at and you would definitely see the old town USA with the famous angle of the streets. You just needed to cross the street and look back at the bank. Maybe next time. Fun video anyway.

Thank you for your beautiful and interesting video that makes me dream of travel and new places. For me who lives in France it is a real change to see America, the train is huge comparing to our trains made for short distances it gives vertigo ! Have a nice week I will wait for your next video. A big hello from France
