    At the French Throwdown, hardly any athletes stood up with both legs locked out during the dumbbell lunges in event 6. The trailing leg knee was always bent. How come double locked-out knees is the standard for step ups but not lunges?

    • @davewarfel1
      @davewarfel1 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Because they are different movements. Step ups move vertically; walking lunges move horizontally. With step ups, there's a clear stopping point at the end of the rep. With walking lunges, we allow continuous movement because, well, they're WALKING lunges.

      @@davewarfel1 so you’re telling me there’s no standard all of a sudden? In past years, a walking lunge required a double knee lockout (like with this year’s QF step-up), so seems like you’re making this standard up new for 2024. Do you work for CrossFit?

      @@davewarfel1 this isn’t correct, using Adrian Bozmans explanation, in relation to the knees and hips and a proper rep the top of a step up is the same as the top of the deadlift and the top position of a squat. Which should be the same position as the top of a lunge it’s all the same.
      When athletes cross the line when do they get the finish call from the judge for their WALKING lunge? Both feet over the line. And standing talk with knees and hips locked out. Like the top of a step up, deadlift, squat etc

      @@matthuff-n-puff6527 thank you. Exactly. Crazy that QF video reviews penalized people for doing the exact thing that’s being allowed in the SF stage.

    Here's the thing, if you can't see it with the naked eye, it's good. If you have to actually pause a video to see it, then a judge can't see it, so it should be good. We need to stop being stupid about things. sure some penalties are very valid, but we're also going way overboard.

    Athletes have been skirting the standards, taking a penalty and making it to the games. The standard is the standard, and he didn’t extend his hips/knees on all his reps. So of course you can move faster that way… doesn’t mean it’s wrong. We all watched him push jerk a thruster the year before also. I don’t think Pat was being malicious, but many people are every year.

    Please have the decency to start the video by stating WHAT HAPPENED?!?!?!?! What problem are you talking about???

    • @SuperDan1006
      @SuperDan1006 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Basically there’s a controversy in the judging of online submissions that penalized top athletes heavily and pushed a few completely out of qualification for the Games, yet the judging standards were not applied universally. Do a search on it and you’ll find plenty of content. Andrew Hiller has lots of videos on it.

  • @CB-sr8ee
    @CB-sr8ee หลายเดือนก่อน

    Although it sucks, I think CrossFit made the right decision. Either CrossFit needs to change the standard or do step overs if they’re gonna have online competitions. But you can’t walk back a standard. If you’ve ever competed against someone that wasn’t maintaining the standard and wasn’t getting no repped while you were maintaining the standard it sucks.

    BRING BACK STRICT PULL-UPS!!!!?

    • @davewarfel1
      @davewarfel1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The quality of movement is not what dictates good reps. You can move like shit and still meet the movement standard.

      All do respect, crossfit HQ does not agree.
      I get what you saying, but if Crossfit games athletes could just do as required-the standard, then hey, no penalties.
      I'm just saying, it's good to see the step in the right direction, that they actually are calling people for sketchy, subjective movement standards.
      Actually trying to find a set standard!
      Wish they would put some effort to revive the strict pull ups!!!!
