- Welcome to Jack London Square, a beautiful waterfront brimmed with storefronts, theaters, restaurants, galleries, hotels, and-of course-trains!
Even during the late Sunday afternoon calm, this area became a treasure trove for railroad activity. Watch as these trains noisily slice along the street like knives, splitting this social gathering place in half with a wall of passenger coaches and heavy freight cargo. For that so much action unfolds, this is definitely a place you must share the road!
Please rate, comment, and enjoy the show!
To politely respond:
- Apparently so.
- Yes, that grey car was indeed inside the gate. The driver did the right thing, however: stand still until the train cleared for him to turn left.
- The second motorist waited to turn left after the train.
- I've noticed. Perhaps, a faulty track circuit caused the signals' cycle delay.
- The train decelerated because it observed a restricting signal into the station.
I hope that helps. Thank you for the comment!
Awesome! I want to go there!
Gates won't allow righturns on red?
Is the gate behind the gray car at 1:24?
Why is that car at 4:45 not moving? No lefturn signal?
Grade crossing signals activating too late at 10:09. Then takes too long to deactivate.
Why is train at 14:00 slowing?
Great video! Thank you.
Thank you, sir!
I'll try my best, but thus far school has impeded upon my hobby. Keep a close watch!
@CaliforniaRailfan101 Thank you very much, Jamie!
I certainly did not expect to a freight train through here-let alone two of them. Perhaps, my greatest challenge was attempting to identify each Amtrak train during the editing of this video. Still, I plan to return here someday.
Why, yes. That third track is inactive, completely isolated from the double mainline. Just when it was abandoned is beyond my knowledge, yet I'm glad you've taken note of it.
@NebulaTrain99 What about freight? you can't get timetables for freight trains... at least not in the UK (I think).
Great vid, thanks a lot for filming!
2012 I've visited Oakland during a business stay at Campbell, but didn't know that this exists. If I had known!
However, thanks to you I can go there the next time :)
I'm wondering if such street running sections could exist with electrical trains. There are some, e.g. in Switzerland (in Chur, a small town near the city where I'm living), but these are meter-gauge trains on 600V while main railways run on 3.5-15kV, thus needing much heavier overhead wiring.
@fcentaur No. "Deadhead" in railroad jargon means transporting of empty or unused equipment from one point to another such as a yard.
Love the K5LA on AMTK 94!
Ottimo video
Looks like the trains go pretty much the speed limit of the street. There is some excellent street running in downtown Fort Collins, CO (several videos on youtube) and the speed limit on that street is 25, but the trains are limited to 15 I believe. Takes quite a while for those long ones to pass through the area!
+msk578 yes but the whole street has been rebuilt as a nonstreet running railroad & trains go 25mph now
Are there still street running trains in America? That must be awesome to see still!!
Yes, there are a few dozen at least. I have a bunch of videos on my TH-cam channel showing some of them from 3 different states.
@Aero203 Thank you, Aaron!
I see three tracks down that street. Two look to be the active ones, which makes me wonder what the third track is/was for. You have any ideas?
@Ben31337l I keep a timetable handy to identify each Amtrak train.
That's a sad sounding Amtrak !!!
@NebulaTrain99 how do you identify trains?
They don't half make a racket
