Sincerely one of your best videos. I don’t think I’d ever quite thought of the prospecting horizon as baseball like. Quick flips are very hard on soccer (unless it’s just a “card” flip, ie you found a good deal on something). To me, it’s another reminder of how young soccer cards are and that we are still learning

Prospecting in any sport is a fool’s errand but it’s still fun. People need to know that it’s a game and not an investment strategy. That said…. Endrick Leaf cards to the moon!!! 😂 📈🌖

Love this video... lost tons of $ prospecting baseball in the 1980's.... still have my Jimmy Key and Alvin Davis rookie cards.... when I got into soccer, I decided that it would not really be my gig... still buy a card or two here and there, but I always assume a total loss when I buy a new kid and am surprised if they amount to anything

totally agree with you. soccer takes more time than other sport. not need to gamble on rookies.

Great analysis. The few wunderkinds already have greatness priced in. Many of the other promising prospects aren’t cheap and a few years later they end up as busts or just “good” - equating to little hobby relevance. It probably only makes sense when a prospect only has one or two RC cards total AND is cheap. Still risky even then. But yes, also a bit fun nonetheless :)

This year I picked out about 10 players I though would have a decent career. I picked players under 21 and not the players like lamal. I enjoyed finding cards for the players and bost cards cost lest than £10 so it was affordable

It’s so funny to see old vids of folks ripping big Trout & Mahomes cards and just moving to the next card like it’s a common.

totally agree with this. Many people do this in other sports...buy a players cards 4-5 years into their career if they are on a Hall of fame trajectory. The downside to soccer is there is no consensus hall of fame or crowning individual achievement to solidify their long term values.

There is World Cup success, UCL championships and the Balon D'Or.

World Cup and ucl are team achievements which are the opposite of what I was saying. Balon d’or has been won by Messi Ronaldo every year for the last 14 years minus 1.

@@jaredsmith1714You can have a ranking based on how well players have done, such as 12 points for first 5 for 2nd, 3 for 3rd etc. Also there is the FIFA best 11 each year, so you could rank players at a given position for how many times they've made the list. Also, team accomplishments are important for many American sports, such as NBA titles, or Super Bowls. It's really much the same.

and nobody knows/cares about the average finishing position in the popularity contest of a player during their career. Fifa 11 is another popularity contest. Nothing compares to what the hall of fame means in terms of cementing a legacy and therefore collectibility.

@@jaredsmith3516Hall of Fame and MVPs are popularity contests as well - what is the difference? As for who cares or doesn't - that's kind of the point. Card value are dependent on the collective view of all card buyers - in every sport.

One other thought I had in relation to your great piece of advice ("wait at least 3 years...") would be to look at Vini Jr and Foden, and their 2018-19 RCs. They're both having stellar seasons right now. Even still, questions remain. With Vini Jr: Will he eventually be considered one of the few best players of his generation or just "very good" for his era? We still don't know yet because being great for many years in a row matters (and he's not quite there yet). And with Foden: Will he become one of handful of top attacking players of his era or will he just be considered a good, talented complementary player (but one who never carries a big club)? We don't yet know in either case... And those guys had RC cards 5 years ago!

1st cards shoot to the moon quickly, then the next year gets wild with Topps Now and many other team sets and parallels people appear on. Elly DLC 2024 Topps sells for $3.50-4.00 and many of his 2023's from Bowman sell for 1/2 that. Wouldn't the older issue be worth more? It's nuts. Cards in 24 do well in 24 and it can end there when 2025 hits, if that makes sense.

Another big soccer hobby failure has been Gio Reyna. Hobby darling as a rookie, and then his market just tanking the past couple years.

Yamal could be the guy who joins Haaland an Mbappe at the top of the tree.
