I'm not interested in buying/selling football cards at all but I find the topic itself fascinating. The way you talk about players sounds so absolutely alien to me, but in an interesting way. The same applies to this comments section. Putting Neymar over Modric in any sort of scenario other than football stickers sounds absolutely ridiculous to me but here we are.😂

Always enjoy the show. As a Modric collector, appreciate and agree with your take. I think he’s more relatable than Neymar so it’s more an emotional thing. Plus, he has outperformed him in titles (CL) and World Cup performance. In any case, he and all the others are so far behind Messi and Ronaldo. I think he and the others are attractive to collectors because they are more affordable, but that doesn’t mean his prices will maintain over the long term. I personally think they slowly fall, and people sort of forget about Modric in 5-10 years.

I just got some of my color treble back including a psa 10. Obviously a pop 1. It was very exciting. I’m undecided about listing them . Have owned them for a year plus and decided to finally grade many of them

Concerning the Messi/Cristiano debate, it doesn’t matter who is better. Card prices are determined by popularity and hype. Cristiano has more social followers. I’d say Messi has only reached Cristiano levels of popularity since the World Cup and he may not be able to maintain that when he retires.

That 58 pele psa 3 was a beaut, and I'd much rather have that over the psa 4 that sold last night on ebay for $4400 but 3k still way out of my price range :(

The reality is that highlight videos will be what introduce retired players to new collectors. Neymar has better highlights than Modric.

That's so sad and pathetic. Nothing to do with you of course, just sad that people will just look at a highlight reel and that's what determines who they like.

I think it's actually a great thing. It's a way of documenting a player for generations to come. For example, if we didn't have video evidence of players, I probably wouldn't love Maradona to the degree that I do. I was born in 96' and had no relation to soccer/football until the 2010's. There would have been no way of knowing how good he was (other than stories passed down). Instead I can pull up a video anytime I want and witness the magician that he was. @@allpissedup229

@@UsmntSoccerCards Maybe I didn't phrase it properly, but I'm not against highlights or old footage existing, it's quite the opposite.
My issue is that using ONLY highlights is extremely detrimental, it emphasises elements of the game that are actually rare (skills, dribbles, wonder goals) without context.
The greats of this sport became such because of everything they do on the pitch, in and out of posession, not because they did a couple cool trivelas in a highlights reel. This is why the likes of Neymar (flashy and talented but ultimately a huge waste of a career) are way overrated by casual and "soccer" fans who's knowledge of the sport doesn't go past FIFA games and said youtube highlights.
Hope that makes more sense than my original comment.

@@UsmntSoccerCards If I’m honest, the only reason I know of Roberto Carlos is because of his amazing free kick highlights. There was no way for me to watch Real Madrid or Brazil games when I was a kid.

You overestimate my impact, I'm a drop in the bucket at the end of the day. What's the harm in pondering over who the 3rd best player of this generation is? I think it's a question a lot of people ask themselves, and with varying answers from what I can tell.
