  • A lot of people are surprised that drivers can't see where riders are going until they arrive to pick up the rider. Unfortunately, sometimes a passenger wants to go where you can't (maybe you have somewhere to be). But what is Uber's official policy on this? Can you cancel on Uber passengers based on their destination? I cover it here!

As sub contractors for uber we should be given all the information, a reason people drive for uber is because you can drive where and when you want to. With so many drivers on the road it wouldn't be hard to get a driver that wants a certain trip. Drivers should be given a couple different trips to choose from with all relevant information, this way drivers wouldn't need to cancel because they would know the information before accepting a trip. Doing this would reduce cancellations and allow drivers to complete trips that better suit them.

To avoid areas.....when you accept ride....set app to STOP NEW REQUESTS. ..then when you get to the bad area...you will not get any requests

The only 2 times I cancelled after getting to the person was when they wanted me to drive 100 miles at the end of the day. I don't mind driving it in the morning but not after dark.

How do I cancel a trip after I confirm it and there in the car? Like where on the app?

Screw Uber. They do not care about drivers. Nor the customer. So, do what is convenient for you and you only. As soon as you are arriving to pick up location. Start the trip. Do not wait for customer to be inside your car. If trip convenient, take it. If not, cancel it. Drive away. No explanations to anyone. Period. By the way, if you are asked pin number to start trip. Get out of that screen and start trip again, do it as many times as needed.

I usually ask the rider their destination before I start the trip. This way I don’t need to cancel a ride after starting it...

I have been deactivated from Uber after 1: a request from an unaccompanied minor requested a trip. I asked how old he was and he said 14. I told him that he had to cancel as it is against Uber TOS to transport unaccompanied minors.

It's odd / unfair (to me anyway) that the driver cannot cancel a ride once it has begun, but the passenger can, even if they have gotten 99% of the way to their destination. (I saw the Uber scam note yesterday -- thank you for that! This happened to me twice the other night!) So far I have not ever canceled a ride once it has begun, and certainly not for some personal reason against the passenger or his destination. But there was one night where I was dead tired and the destination was 40 miles away from my house out to the middle of nowhere. Apparently I was the third driver to come and the only one to accept the trip.

Harry, so what ur saying is just go ahead and take a ride to a place where ppl have been taken advantage of, weather it be by being car jacked, getting robbed or possibly even being physically violated i.e.”rapped” or assaulted in the process of these happenings? You tell me what does Uber or Lyft do for me and my family in the event if someone shoots me in the head or stabs me to death, while all I’m just trying to do is give them a ride to the destination they requested which may or may not be a less desirable area where I don’t have any business being. Where does that leave my family then?

What if you cancel on a customer that is too drunk and you don’t to take the risk of them puking in your car?

So if they want to go an hour away you have to take them? You can't limit the distance you are willing to drive?
