  • Regardless of ring height the Flashpup will leave you with a very high scope mount. In this video I talk about the disadvantages of a high mount and a few solutions. I share "my" solution, the process from start to finish, and the results that followed. To all my Brothers Happy New Year!!! It is the AIR that binds us.........

    Had a difficult time getting my scope to shoot low enough. I’d say most shots I’m taking are 15 yards or so. I switched back to my red dot and back to pellet on pellet accuracy. I’m just wanting to take it out into the country and stretch it out. I’ve walked in shots after 3 attempts at every bit of 85 yards on a soda can. I’m a big fan of your setup. I’m building my flashpup up similar to yours.

    For long range regular rifles they make sloped rails for the same purpose. I had one on my 6.5 by 284 custom antelope Remington 700 that I shot an antelope at 970 yds. I have a Flashpup on order and will put a .035 spacer on it. I have used the feeler gage idea to make shims before. Great way to make cheap shims of exact thickness.

    Hey bro! Just received my new flashpup Monday and measured the gap between the bottom of the optic rail and the barrel. There is a 3/16th of an inch difference from the block to the barrel band. Seriously. No wonder why I was shooting a foot and a half low. Fellow new owners might want to check theirs before installing your scope. I shimmed my first pup between the rail and spacer. Thanks Chad for showing us all how to do these things. Appreciate you. Congratulations to you and your daughter for the deer!

    Another great video Chad!
    I wish I saw this video/thought of this before I bought the fx adj no limit rings so I could zero @ 50yds with more adjustability from that point. Don't get me wrong they were still a great investment, but I could have saved $60-$70.
    Keep them coming, I really appreciate all the info.

    Awesome solution!!! I had to shim my mounts to get a proper elevation adjustment. But as you say, shims could damage our scopes. I made this under rail shim and now I can get my scope properly zeroed without ran out of clicks. Thanks again. Cheers from Brazil.

    I just want to add one other thing and one of your other videos you've mentioned that smack you hear when you hit your target that you can't notice from a firearm.I experienced that the other day on a dove at about 90 something yards it was a lucky hit but I have been hitting a can from that distance all day long so I knew I would be able to make the shot I just never thought it'd be possible with the wind and everything but I used the hawk ballistics calculator and held for adjustment for the wind elevation and lo and behold smack I hit the Dove and down it fell. such a good feeling when everything comes together like that that's what makes me love the sport

    One more thing that might be a good option is a low profile dovetail to picatinny adapter rail that has from 20-40 moa built in as an offset. You can find them fairly inexpensive, but I would make sure to get a good one with many positive reviews to assure good machining.

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah there's definitely many more options you could get offset rings an offset rail adapter, a cantilever Mount all kinds of stuff. Good point though!

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also this is personal preference but.... If I go to high with the mount then I have to adjust the cheek piece upwards and I just think the dang gun looks stupid as ever when the cheek piece is raised up. Lol that's just my opinion though maybe some guys don't mind having it raised up I just think it looks really awkward when raised up. If it was an ambidextrous cheek piece maybe it wouldn't look so weird to me lol

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sportsmatch adjustable rings are awesome but expensive and I already have them set up on something else. If they were cheaper I'd probably just throw a set on most of my guns.

    • @Jlitnin01
      @Jlitnin01 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, I'm totally with you. The Flashpup looks weird with the cheekpiece up high. That AT44 looks pretty cool with it up a little, with the dual aluminum posts, but I do everything I can to keep my scopes as low as possible, and the cheekpiece low too. You will probably think this is weird, but on the Flashpup, I push the scope way back, cheeckpiece down all the way, and I rest my cheek on the very end of the cheekpiece, with my chin partly resting on the butt of the stock. It just works for me, don't have to crane my head forward at all. Very natural feeling, the scope sits super low, and I can still see through it no problem.

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rail should already be a picatinny\weaver\dovetail combo rail. It is removable but finding a direct replacement that wouldn't need some modification may prove difficult. You could use any rail on it as long as you can modify it to make it fit and mount solid.

    I got my Flash Monday & was out trying to sight it in. Needless to say, I ended up messing up one of my clips, The cocking lever was a lot harder to pull back & it didn't engage the pellet all the way in & I didn't want to load 2 pellets in the chamber either. ( is there a way to adjust the cocking lever ?? ) also, it was hot & I was sweating my ass off. I ended up having to use a screwdriver to pry the clip out & messed up the guide, just hope I can sand it down some & still use it. I got a scope that had some schemes inside the ring so I was thinking about using one of them to my back ring to get the lift needed. I have one of the Discovery scopes coming later on this week as I don't like the way to adjust the scope have to use plyers to turn nob. If you can send me a message to my email robertwithman@yahoo.com will send you my number or you can leave your number & will give you a call.

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry it took me so long to respond. I was so busy when I read your message that I responded to you in my head but not in real life LOL. As to the situation that occurred I too have been there. One thing you can do is to just fully double feed the pellet then unscrew and remove the shroud or remove the end cap so you can remove the baffles and such and take the shot clearing the barrel without the chance of clipping the QE innards. Or alternatively you could bring the bolt to the rear locking position remove the magazine and take something small in diameter like a cleaning rod or coat hanger and feed it through the shroud, into the barrel, and just push the second pellet back out the breech. As to the force required to pull the bolt back and charge the gun there are three things that affect this imo. The first being lubrication. I have found that a dry bolt action treated with a dry lubricant such as graphite works the best to eliminate surface frictions and smooth out the cocking process. Of all the guns I own the second variable is specific to the Flash platform. If any upwards pressure is applied to the bolt handle while cocking the gun it will cause the bolt to drag and bind in the block but if you maintain a downwards pressure this does not happen. The third variable would be the preloaded tension on your hammer spring. If you turn the adjustment screw clockwise lessening the preload tension on the hammer it will take less force to pull the bolt back and fully cock the gun. There's a trade-off here though. It will be easier to pull the bolt back and you will use less air and gain more shots but the velocities will be lower. Hope that helps you out brother. Look out for an email from me later on tonight after work

      @@brothersinair2064 only way I can get a message to you, I was out doing some testing on some pellets the 31 Grizzlies & the 28,24 Barracudas & from what I have seen my pup likes the 28.24 the best as the Grizzlies were shooting all over the place ( the fps was with a 5 shot string 664-676-671-685-675 with the Grizzlies )but may retry as I adjusted my hammer spring. On the pup that I have, there is a small hole in the back of stock that allows using a 2.5 mm hex key. My Pup was shooting @ 715 - 728 fps until I adjusted that back screw then my FPS went up to 755-780 FPS, also I notice the cocking lever is a little easier to cock, I am using the single shot try but will try the mags after I get things adjusted a little more. so far I have put close to 80 rounds out of my pup so I guess I still have some breaking in to do. Get back with me when you can. Take care don't work too hard. LOL☺

  • @mikestone9129

    Do the synthetic models have the same problem?

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't exactly call it a problem. It's just an issue we face when using a bullpup because of the greater distance between center of scope to center of barrel as opposed to a carbine or rifle setup. Many people use adjustable rings or a one piece mount that has more MOA built into it to compensate for the high rail. A lot of scopes in the lower price range do not have enough MOA built into the turret adjustment for long range shooting setups on a Bullpup. Essentially all you need is enough adjustment to be able to set your zero far enough out (40-50yds). As long as you can set your zero a mil dot reticle or something of the like can be used to hold over for any ranges past your zero.
