    I just removed the shroud on my Hatsan BT65, 357. The shroud retainer nut was in backwards from the factory. The clear spacer was in with the small hole toward the front end of the shroud. I cleaned, inspected, all components. I installed the shroud retainer in the correct direction so you could actually use a 14mm socket to tighten the barrel nut. I placed the two baffles on the shroud and came up 20mm short of the retaining bushing. So for now I made an insert out of a 1/2” pvc pipe to maintain contact with the baffles. I don’t like this idea because I can’t imagine how the pellet will exit the last baffle travel 20mm and find the hole in the thread bushing at the end of the barrel. Now all that being said, I’ve burnt powder for 63 years, watched videos on air rifles for two years before getting into this sport and I think my failure was not to field strip the rifle on receiving it. Your video was ver helpful!

    Hi chad, yes my Flash Wood .25 Cal did not have an o-ring on the barrel nut from the factory, i also think that's why the 2 lower plastic baffles were broken when i took the shroud off, cant wait to re-assemble it properly as you show here, thanks again! I e-mailed Hatsan and they are sending me new parts under warranty.

    Hey sir I tried ur felt mod on my AT44 QE .25.cal. About a 3.5 decibel reduction using my phone app. Not tremendous but everything helps with my loud .25. Trying to make it more quiet for fussy neighbors. Only cost 70 cents at Hobby Lobby for felt. Have ordered 10 stage baffles on EBay for further reduction. Got enough felt to do my Gauntlet, .22 AT44 and new BT65. Thanks for the video!!

      You're welcome my friend. That's awesome and you're right every little bit counts! It makes the guns a little long but DonnyFL makes a QE shroud adapter so you can attach a moderator. I've modded my QE barrel bands to support the smaller diameter of the barrel and I am just using my DonnyFL's. Man is it quiet! He does a heck of a job and the quality is outstanding. When I use the adapter in conjunction with the QE shrouds it's insanely quiet! First time taking a shot I thought the gun had malfunctioned because literally all you here is the hammer striking the valve. Like I said a little long on top of the QE but those fussy neighbors will think you're outside swatting flies not shooting your airgun LOL. Let me know how those 10 stage baffles work out if you would.

    Very informative, I really needed this video... I need to know one more thing though...
    Is the hatsan QE shroud removable in all Hatsan models just like this one?
    Because the bt65 elite with the QE is very long so if it is removable it will be a lifesaver since I will not need to buy a bigger case for it to fit the extra QE length... I will just remove the shroud when I want to transport it in a case

  • @rixrydes5690
    @rixrydes5690 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey Brother! Keep up the good work! Just wanted to share a few things I found when I removed my shroud to do this mod.
    1) Hatsan has changed some things in this area!
    a) The spacer for the shroud at the breech end (yours stayed in place on the barrel) is now pressed into the shroud, making this mod almost impossible! I had to remove my barrel and wrap the felt around it and then slide it into the shroud to get the air diffuser into place. Very difficult! also had to use 1mm felt as there was just no way 2mm will fit. Do you think they changed the shroud diameter?
    b) The first two baffles have to go in big end to breech or they won't all fit in the shroud!
    c) The second two baffles (felt wrapped) have a large hole all the way! no small end anymore!
    d) The felt on my baffles didn't even cover the whole screen they were quite short. I covered both with 2mm felt.
    e) After the two felt covered baffles I added a thin (.25mm) rubber washer with an I.D. of .285" before I installed the end cap. I figured it might help. My .22lr suppressor has the same setup, and it is very quiet!
    This did make a big difference in the sound signature! only makes a quiet 'ping' now. Do you think the Huma regulator I am about to install will reduce that ping?
    Thanks again for your hard work and dedication to our sport!
    BTW- I'd love to see a video on enlarging transfer ports and such for optimum velocity! I'm wanting to try and shoot slugs as they have a much better ballistic coefficient, and I'll need all the power I can get for them to stabilize!

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the update on the changes and thanks for the kind words. the regulator will definitely take that final bit of ping out of there. With the shroud done up nice and the regulator installed pretty much all you hear is the hammer striking the valve.

    • @Z28PAPI
      @Z28PAPI 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow. Ok so I had noticed that my at44-10 was much quieter then the flashpup and so I took them both apart a discovered that the two had some differences. On the At44-10 the baffles have one large hole at one end and one small on the other. Where as the flashpup has equal sized holes on both ends of the plastic baffles. The at44-10 has metal cups and the flashpup has clear plastic cups. But the at44-10 is definitely much much quieter! First time I shot it I wouldn't have even know anything came out if I didn't hear it hit the target.

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're welcome. The ping it's decent but once you install the regulator it depings things nicely. A reg works as a depinger also. can someone please post a pc of exactly how and where on the barrel nut the O ring goes? is it in the chenel around the middle of the nut, or around the botom where it seats against the QE shroud?

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The o-ring goes in the groove cut around the O.D. of the nut where it would make contact with the I.D. of the shroud. Once you have the o-ring seated in the groove and you look through the nut you will see that the air pass-through holes are now roughly 50% blocked off by the o-ring. This slows the air that is backflowing through the shroud and also puts the rubber o-ring against the I.D. of the shroud and this dampens vibrations. Happy shooting!

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not official from hatsan but only my observation. Of the four that I own and many many other guys I have talked to it would seem that the .25 caliber always comes with the small hole baffles and the .177 and .22 the large. I don't understand it either. My 22's are much louder than the .25's and an appropriate sized pass-through hole based on the caliber does the best job for stripping away turbulent air from the shot and brings more stability. The baffles with the large pass through holes don't seem to do much at all in my opinion so I'm in the dark like you my friend I don't get it.

      You must not be removing the collar at the end of the shroud where it fits against the breach. There is 1.7mm between the I.D. of the shroud and the O.D. of the barrel. If the collar does not come out easily by hand then you can take an appropriate sized wooden dowel and come through the shroud to tap the collar out without scratching it. Once the collar has been removed you should have the clearance you need. All the barrels and shrouds are the same regardless of caliber. That space between the barrel and shroud must be there to let the air stripped from the shot travel back through that space and out the vent hole on the shroud. Hope that helps bro

      @@brothersinair2064 yep thats what was going on, that collar did not want to come out, i ended up using a little dab of rubber cement to the edge of the felt and put it in place inside the shroud, and carefully slid the shroud back on, and the felt stayed in place. BTW are there supposed to be 2 vent holes? mine has one slightly to the side that you can see, then another slightly larger, half covered by the barrel band. I got the gun new, so no mods or anything previous.

      @@realtalkrealtawhid6677 cool glad you got something worked out. I've never seen one with more than one vent hole. All four of my QE shrouds have one vent hole. They all fall in a place that leaves them unobscured by the barrel band or anything else so I wonder if they didn't drill one in the wrong spot and then instead of scrapping it they just drilled it in the correct spot so now there are two? Or maybe they just do two holes now I'm not sure brother.

    How’s i it going. I have an flash pup .25 and today I was shooting it and all the air came out the back of the barrel the end where the pellets go in. Me and my brother changed the the two O rings that are outside the barrel and the one o ring inside the barrel and put it back together and it’s still not working while we was trying to put air in it the air is coming out the barrel like something isn’t sealed do you have any idea what could be wrong

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you shoot the gun too low into the yellow the hard smack of the hammer will unseat the valve with enough dwell to let all of the air escape past it. Then there is not enough air pressure behind it to slam the valve shut and it remains unseated. Assuming you're filling from a hand pump you probably will not get it to go. Some air reservoirs are impossible to fill with a hand pump once completely empty like the old air Force guns because the valve was a two-way valve inlet and outlet. If you had a SCUBA tank or other high-pressure air source this usually isn't the problem as the air fills the reservoir so fast it seats the valve and holds its shut. this happened to me while letting someone else shoot the gun and I was in the house I did not warn them not to shoot it far into the yellow on the manometer. I do not have a high-pressure source and use a hand pump so I had to remove the air reservoir, unscrew the end cap valve body, and take a light brass hammer tapping the valve pin lightly to seat it nice against the delrin valve seat. Then i carefully assembled everything as to not unseat the valve by bumping or jamming the pin. After doing this I was able to fill the gun once again with a hand pump. It's really something that should be in big bold red letters on the front cover or first page of the manual. let me know if you get her and if you have any questions I'm always around.

      BROTHERS IN AIR thank you we going to try it but I was using an air tank

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@coreyjoeriley in that case I would just remove the gun from the stock make sure the air cylinder is degassed(obviously it is as it will not hold air) and remove it. You have to remove the manometer or you will not be able to slide it all the way out through the barrel band but as you are using high-pressure air tank to fill you may be able to just back it out a few inches so you can access the valve pin. Or you can remove the optics rail and detach the trigger linkage and just slide the whole barrel band off. Then while trying to fill from your air tank you can push or pull on the valve stem trying to reseat the valve if you have an air tank. push it or tap it with a hammer lightly a few times while the air is escaping out the port of the valve you should be able to get it to seat and grab hold nice. Occasionally debris or some other matter will get in there between things also. this can help to free up debree and push it past and off of the valve seat. Even a small fragment of something as thin as a piece of hair will cause the valve to not seat or seal correctly. Either way you should be able to get it seated once you have it off the gun and are pushing pulling etc on the valve pin while throwing air in with the tank. Hope that helps. Always be careful

      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The amount of torque applied to what exactly? As far as I know there are no specified or listed torque settings for reference. I generally don't find a need to go above 20 inch pounds on anyting on the guns.

    • @brothersinair2064
      @brothersinair2064  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can reference torque charts based on materials and fastener diameter and come up with some numbers but it would take some research. With pcp's I would say 15-20 inch pounds for most everything from set screws to scope rings.

    I believe your thinking is backwards on the 2nd set of baffles. They should be turned with the little hole toward the front just like the solid baffles. This way it cups the air and it stays back and is slowed down by the felt. Putting the small end up next to the solid baffles small end does absolutely nothing. I even drilled four holes into the solid baffles for even more expansion,

      The two plastic clear ones face with the open end towards the breach and the small hole facing forwards. The tune on the gun can make a big difference as well. Just as an example..... say your 22 is shooting around a 1000fps. It would produce a much quieter shot if you tuned it down some. Sometimes even 50fps can make a noticeable difference. I've got it tuned to 31fpe around 870'ish with 18.3 gr JSB's and 18gr crow magnums. Those crow mags have some serious expansion but not as accurate as the JSB. Also had to clean out the trigger sear and the hammer area. It was gunked with grease galore and had metal shavings in it. Went ahead and polished those contact points also.My trigger area itself had zero lube so took care of that also.
