Exactly. The issue wasn't his video. The issue was the tens of thousands of people that saw his video without reading a single page of the Bleach manga so they could formulate their own conclusions. See for themselves what things are true, what things are complete bullshit. But no, what we got was thousands if not millions of people shitting on Bleach because Eyepatch Wolf or "X TH-camr that was inspired by Eyepatch Wolf" said so .
Thing is everyone read Bleach even if we didn't watch the anime, everyone knows how bad it got. You'd go to manga stream and read the big 3 every thursday/friday. And for Bleach post Soul Society and Naruto post Pain-arc most of that was inertia. I read all the way up till the thousand year blood war arc with absolutely no joy and when that started up and some more crap was happening for no reason this time with the people we'd been told were dead and this was going to be another pointless extension of the story and it was terrible I gave up. And the prevailing wisdom was right and SEW was right. He was absolutely right about everything in that video including it's decline in popularity. The only thing was the specific numbers were unreliable but that's essentially meaningless for the purposes of that video. Bleach's anime getting cancelled would not have happened if it hadn't massively declined in popularity. Also when bleach was at it's peak in the mid-00 it was getting 4/5/6 covers of Jump where bleach was the sole cover or joint with just one other (discounting when there's loads of stuff). In it's last it got 1 a year. Till the end of the Soul Society arc it was amazing. But it never lived up to that cliffhanger reveal and Kubo never had a real talent for standard battle manga or plot. He never got beyond more training and new powers and power ups later Dragonball style. He was a great artist but as Bleach went of post-soul society he'd clearly run out of ideas. He has some redeeming qualities as a writer up till the end of Soul Society. But almost everything he wrote after that took the characters and plots away from what he was best at writing.
@@mytimetravellingdog The ideas of Bleach being only good at Soul Society or Kubo being a bad writer are objectively wrong, just so you know. Read the manga again, Kubo isn't the type of writer to explain literally everything in your face. It did decline. The outlines become way too thick, the backgrounds nonexistent and most of the characters just kinda look the same after a while. Even if it is quite slick for fullspreads, in motion it’s truly bad.
@@pogo8050 nah the art became better there isn’t a single manga in new gen or old gen shouldn’t jump that comes close. It just means there's some pretty but hollow fight scenes for and adaptation of a manga that should have been put out of it's misery well before it ever got to that pointless arc. And to be honest the two main things people took from Bleach were a) a contemporary setting and b) how not to do battles, plots and power creep. Eyepatch Wolf's Bleach video is just another in a long line of garbage narrative analysis. Eyepatch's Videos by comparison always feel like he engages with the content of a series on barely anything beyond surface level. He treats narrative structures and archetypes as if their carbon copies of other stories, where Mark acknowledges that structures are what hold together the things we like about good stories.

It's genuinely up there with s7 and s8 of Game of Thrones level of drop off. The Vizards arc was lackluster but wasn't so bad compared what came next. But everything from the Heuco Mundo arc on is a tedious repetitive boring joyless slog. I finally gave up mid way through what turned out to be the final arc after years and years of hollow boring meaningless manga.
@@mytimetravellingdog "Bleach fell off after the Soul Society Arc." The numbers and statistics say otherwise. Its crazy you say that because during the Vizard and arrancar arcs, Bleach was practically at its peak, selling probably what would be considered one of the best selling manga series' of it's time. Even after ending in 2016, it still is in the top 15 highest grossing manga series' of all time, alongside Naruto and One Piece. i really don't know what to tell you but the vizard arc was by no means lackluster and it is not really fair to say a show fell off after a specific arc when the arc in question is considered by most to be one of the best in all of shounen anime/manga. A majority of what is considered to be bad in Bleach is mostly due to Studio Pierrots handling of the Bleach adaptation, cutting out crucial texts just to drag out the story as much as possible so they wouldn't catch up to the manga. You also can't call yourself a fan of a series then the next moment, begin hating on the series without giving a good reason or saying it fell off or became tedious or repetitve when there are only 2 of the 13 arcs in the bleach series are focused on saving someone or follow a similar format, those being the Ryoka Invasion and the Arrancar Invasion. " I finally gave up mid way through what turned out to be the final arc after years and years of hollow boring meaningless manga." And this right here proves that you probably didn't even read Bleach. The Thousand Blood Warfare was stated, right from the very first chapter that it was going to be the final arc in the series, most of that was due to Kubo's declining health, but regardless, still the last. Even if you weren't totally into Bleach, you would've known. I also find it very difficult to believe that someone would sit there are read what they considered boring for what could've possibly been 9 years. Anytime between those two invertals, you couldve dropped the manga, maybe when you began to feel that it was boring, but you didn't. So either you were still invested in Bleach, you dropped Bleach and continued reading it when the TYBW started, or you just didn't even watch it at all. And on an unrelated note, The hate that Bleach gets is mostly unfair. When did it get normalized to hate or bash on Bleach. If you said the same things you said here, but they were targeted toward One Piece and Naruto, you would be bombarded. But the same isn't even said about Bleach. There is a good reason that it is part of the Big 3, having many arcs that you could even say that are equal to, if not better than some of Naruto's and One Piece's greatest arcs.

That old Bleach video still has some good points tho. The only major problem is misattributing DVD sales and other elements to imply the quality of popularity of the series.
I mean all it's points are correct essentially. Including it's massive decline in popularity both in Japan and the West post-Soul Society arc. The only problem was his methodology attempting to demonstrate what people knew already. There's loads of other ways to demonstrate that. Not least the fact they cancelled what had been one of the highest rated anime and most popular globally. Number of covers it go was also a bit sign if it's decline as well. There's plenty of others, japanese viewing figures show how much it declines etc etc
There was much more wrong with his original video and one after that but the main problem was that he presented his take as objective and well informed facts when in reality he knew nothing and used his very arbitrary opinion to measure it. The truth behind Bleaches hiatus are 2 thing: 1 - there was no material to adapt, 2 - the studio wanted more money from they deals
they basically said they're ignorant of most of the story and just give takes with a surface-level understanding and when people who know the series correct them they think it is an issue lmfaoo
Well the reason why eye patch got so much backlash was because his video was objectively wrong and he even admitted this. Also what he said about the video call was incorrect, no one said that. I think he’s just trying to cope because he got called out?? But I wouldn’t be surprised if they said that behind scenes because eye patch set up the “bleach is trash” narrative and made it mainstream. So the people who agreed with it were very much a problem for hating from an echo chamber. No disagrees with bleach’s decline at all because that’s a fact, it’s just you were wrong about the stat analysis, viewership and plot.
The decline was nowhere a problem as he portrayed it. He doesn’t know shiz about the industry and made dumb claims. Bleach at its worst was still selling way above industry standards and even todays most manga wish they could even reach Bleach‘s worst numbers.
@@SuperBerry123 yeah he was straight up BS, it was yeah, the manga volume sales post anime production were averaging 200k-400k+ within 5 weeks of publication. Thats definitely a drop from 800-1mil volumes after 5 week release data but its still above others. Infact thats far better than borutos volume sales. The question is whether they saw a return in profit, we know 5 years before the anime was announced to return they planned for it to return. So 2016 it was given the go ahead. So a 4 year hiatus or 4 year cancellation.
@@MrDeclareWar They didn’t cancel Bleach and had no intention to cancel it either, because as said it’s not common for any manga to average minimum 400k sales per volume. In fact cancelling Bleach when it made that much would profit wise by very dumb, because most new works don’t reach those numbers and most get cancelled. Do you know which manga replaced Bleach? No you probably don’t same as everyone else, because it was a manga that had only 2 volumes and got cancelled because of poor sales. And no one remembers it. Jump would have wished Kubo to milk Bleach longer if it was possible. All these people who trash on Bleach‘s „worst sales“ just don’t research the industry and don’t know what those number mean. They see a graph go down and think it fails. The whole rumour of Bleach getting axed or Kubo being forced to finish have no basis, fans just came up with those because they didn’t understand how the manga was so rushed towards its ending. But nowadays we know the reason, it was Kubo himself deciding to rush to the end because of his shoulder injury, before he wouldn’t be able to finish it. At least that way we got an ending and didn’t stay in an limbo like HxH for example.
@@SuperBerry123 well no it’s all about return profit so if bleach wasn’t meeting its return and or higher then there would be no incentive to produce more, the numbers themselves are high buts its dependent on how much they spent and if they get return value. Bleach could have sold a million per volume in the first 5 weeks but if it was spending more then it would get dropped because they’re losing money. Which is what I imagine happened. I don’t quite know why you’re arguing with me, we agree. Bleach wasn’t replaced per se, it gradually fell off the charts due to decline, so other manga would take its previous positions in the charts for popularity or sales. It’s more of a moving ladder than an official position. It stopped publication due to its conclusion so naturally it wasn’t “replaced” (in the context of bad connotation) as a manga but finished. As for bleach being cancelled, well I said hiatus or cancelled, because it was neither stated officially cancelled or on hiatus, you need to read more carefully. Yeah kubo wanted to rush it to its completion due to his injuries, and now we are seeing a more complete anime product with double the chapter content almost.
@@MrDeclareWar But as i said it was selling above industry standards, other manga that sell below those numbers didn’t get cancelled for their whole run by Jump, so return of profit definitely was there. It’s not like one manga is more expensive to produce than the other, the chapters are all released same way in weekly magazine also when first released. So makes no sense to me to suggest it wasn’t maybe making profit anymore for them when it was selling way above industry standards. I talked about cancellation in regards to fam rumours not you writing the word, don’t worry i did read carefully you shouldn’t make rash assumptions.

The reason is the video spread so much misinformation about Bleach it was a bad video straight up one thing to voice opinions another to blatantly spread false information as facts
I don't see how mid is a coward term though, if you genuinely think something is middling, why wouldn't you call it mid? Not to mention not everyone who comments on the internet is obliged to explain their reasoning on why they thought anything about a particular show, sometimes people just like/dislike a show or think it's mid and want to express that. And someone not being able to explain their emotional response to a show doesn't make that response or opinion invalid. Hell, half the time people try to justify their assessment of a show with hollow buzzwords like "the story was good" which carry almost the same amount of meaning as nothing, I'd rather people just be honest and admit when they don't really know why they feel the way they do. Not everyone has the media background to really analyze media, nor is everyone in-tune enough with their emotions to correctly identify the specific causes to their emotions.
@@emmarod8746 even if you are upset it doesn't mean you're right. It's very subjective thing and being upset or mad when someone says "it's a mid show" are kinda dumb and stupid imo.
I don’t care if people use mid. Comments on the internet or in general aren’t going make me upset because people don’t like what I do. I’m just telling you how other people perceive it and how they are going to react to it. All the power to you if thats what you want and it does eventually happen to piss someone off online or irl.

That it fell off after Soul Society arc. Completely valid opinion, the problem was that he used some misinformation to back up his points. It wasn't on purpose but people are just too lazy to check if the information given is actually true, so Bleach fans had to endure some unjust hate for some time. He even made an apology video.

Have you actually seen the last arcs? TYBW may have had some pacing issues in the manga, but the anime is making it one of the best Shonen arcs oat. Fullbring was also a fantastic arc to dive into Ichigo’s character and take a step back from the intensity of Arrancar.
@@scuffed7648To be honest, it just doesn't feel like a compelling story. Bad guy comes in and we have to stop him. Sure he has his motivations but it all feels like it's just for the sake of setting up fights. The villains are all new characters and we have no reason to care about them so late in the story. Fullbring is underrated but bringing in all the Soul Reapers ruined it. At most it should have just been Rukia and Renji and we could have Orihime, Chad and Uryu actually be important for once.
yeah prepare to be unpopular for life. Maybe it's my age showing or the amount of anime I watched but I can't seem to enjoy watching Jujutsu Kaisen. Maybe I would appreciate it more if I read the Manga when I have the time but the anime is just not doing it for me.
I never blamed Eyepatch Wolf. But the amount of shit I got from people and friends, who haven’t watched bleach but only watched that video was immense

As someone who was a fan of Bleach and just kept reading (and watching but for less long) post Soul Society it's really hard to over emphasise how hard and fast that show fell off a cliff.
@@mytimetravellingdog
"Bleach fell off after the Soul Society Arc." The numbers and statistics say otherwise.
@@mytimetravellingdogholy based. I feel like I’m going insane reading all this fanboy gawking from people who sound like they didn’t pay attention when they describe the show. Joyless slog definitely encapsulates Bleach’s essence.

It’s insane copium to assume that the people who made Bleach didn’t want to make money if the money was actually there to be made
There was much more wrong with his original video and one after that but the main problem was that he presented his take as objective and well informed facts when in reality he knew nothing and used his very arbitrary opinion to measure it.

Bleach haters hate us cuz they ain’t us.
Daniel Bryan in wwe was so over. The yes movement heading into wrestlemania 30 was some of the greatest organic wrestling stories ever.
