    I just wanted to point out more technical insight on the frieza fight,
    Frieza's main weakness even before Goku goes super saiyan is that he can't sense energy, and major points in the fight reflects that; Goku underwater blindsighting him with ki blasts, Goku surprising him with Kaioken, Goku charging the spirit bomb right over his head, and then again at the end when frieza becomes so distraught that he doesn't even keep track of the trajectory of his little pizza slicers.
    IMO this also blends in with his character/emotional shortcoming as well since Frieza's whole personality is that he thinks everybody else is insignificant, so of course he wouldn't care to feel their energy.

    • @bryal7811
      @bryal7811 4 ปีที่แล้ว +236

      The notion of a super saiyan is also introduced early on with the fall of the Ginyu force. It becomes a huge character flaw as Vegeta shows desperation in trying defeat the tyrant that pinned him down all his life by clinging to a fairy tale of his dead race. The power up serves both an emotional and technical progression to the story of DBZ

    • @Sakaki98
      @Sakaki98 4 ปีที่แล้ว +137

      bryal
      Not only that, it ties into themes of nature vs nurture in general, which were prevalent throughout the entirety of the previous Saiyan Saga. Goku defeats both Vegeta and Frieza who initially view him as inherently inferior through hard work. Goku utilizes his unique saiyan biology with both Zenkai boosts and super saiyan to become strong enough to actually challenge Frieza and the Ginyu force, proving to both that it was Saiyans who were inherently superior all along.
      Trash as Super is, people don’t give early DBZ enough credit for the amount of storytelling it packs into its fighting and training arcs...

      That and frieza like vegeta was incredibly arrogant, being superior because it's his birthright their is nobody above him, here comes goku a sayain that trained his entire life fought multiple battles grew naturally the thought of "wait I can lose!?" Never crossed his mind, its just like bryal said nature vs nurture. Birthright vs. Hardwork

    Look, I avoided watching this video for quite a while. Bleach always had a special place in my heart. I didn't need anyone else telling me why I was "wrong" in enjoying something they considered an "inferior piece of media".
    Recently I came into contact with this channel again with the new Garfield video, and I loved it. And with the Bleach anime return now confirmed, I decided to man up and give this video a try. And I'm happy I did.
    I still love Bleach, and yet I fully support this video. I have a number of disagreements with quite a few points in it, but I can't say I don't understand your point of view. And to me, what really matters in the end is for us to be able to respect each others tastes and opinions, so I truly appreciate your position throughout the explanation. Needless to say, I'm now a fan of your work. Well done!

      @@moongirl-d9h What? He didn't. There is a whole section at the end of the video where he literally states that if after we listened to him, we still don't agree with him and still love the series, then all power to us. This is how he interpreted the story. I have my own interpretation, and it's wildly different from his. I just respect his opinion, just as I felt he respected mine. There are a lot of people spreading unfounded hate over this series, but I don't think Wolf is one of them.
      People need to stop this mindset of us vs them. It's like differing opinions can't coexist anymore.

      It's a fair concern given how much bad faith opinions on the internet exist, but not something worth holding on tightly too. If ya really love something, criticism is a good thing so ultimately as another bleach fan, glad you ended up watching the video

    Hueco Mundo being a bland, empty desert actually fits the ideal of Hollows very well, in my opinion. Hollows are souls who let their grief and regrets from life overwhelm them, and as such have become tormented beings, devoid of happiness. They are, literally and figuratively, hollow. So, all in all, it fits the theme like a glove.

      @@doxxbot4737 what he's referring to is soft worldbuilding, the type of worldbuilding bleach uses. It's based more on the world reflecting the themes of the story, as apposed to hard world building which is based on logistics. It's also used by stories like Hunter x Hunter, Ghibli movies, and Harry Potter. Hard worldbuilding is used by stories like one piece, lord of the Rings, and AoT.
      Neither method is inherently better or worse than the other, they're simply 2 different methods of worldbuilding

    • @thecod2345
      @thecod2345 2 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      @@afellownerd I’d say it did need a bit more concreteness in world building because as of right now, the little details seem to make little sense. For example, how can souls breed? Where are the resources in hueco mundo besides other hollows for ajunchas to eat? Why are captains that didn’t fight the quinces or other soul reapers so strong when their jobs are to kill hollows, of which all are extremely weak compared to them?
      Soft world building is fine but Kubo definitely would have benefitted from being more concrete with certain things.

      Not gonna lie this video definitely sold me on watching Bleach up until the end of Soul Society. I am very much down for a Shonen battle series that peaks hard with an excellent arc, possibly one of the best in the genre, early on and gives me a good stopping point after that. No need to keep up with it forever or for 100s of episodes just watch the first few or couple arcs and chill.

    i gotta say, Aizen's illusions are so effective that they spread to the real world. First time watching this, as soon as i saw Aizen, i was like ok, this guy is definitely the villain, hes way too over the top nice, and his voice/cadence is laid on thicc. he has to be the secret villain. then bam, he's "dead". I then thought, oh hell, i was way off the mark. and when the reveal came that he was alive and was a villain, i was actually surprised, felt like a double fake out, and it was a masterpiece of villain reveals, nothing in any other anime comes close.

      @@EnjinSoseiI don't feel like it was only for that. It's also for the characterisation of the main characters as well (at the very least Ichigo, who plenty of people criticize as being a boring protagonist) and some explanations. It let's us see Ichigo at his very lowest where all his friends and family, his main driving force, are jeopardized and even turning against him. He's also shown to be depressed and empty because he feels like his main role in life (as someone with non-ambitious down-to-earth aspirations), to be a protector, has been taken away from him. His friends are more powerful than him now, so will he fall behind so far that they no longer need him? They hide information from him as to not burden him, but it just creates distance.
      As for explanations, we finally get to understand more about Chad and Orihime's powers. Personally, I think it would have been worse for the series if the fullbrings weren't explored. Like, "Of course his friends have powers, just because he's the protagonist." It grounds then a but more knowing that it's not a complete anomaly in-universe.
      Also, we get to see them do more than it felt like they did in the Arancar Arc. I feel like it's not meant to focus on the villains this time, rather refocus on the main group so that they're not lacking. Sure, everything could have ended with Aizen's fall and maybe this arc was simply a way to prolong the series artificially, but if Tite Kubo really did plan to have the TYBW arc earlier on, it serves its purpose well.

      @Excaliber682 People *absolutely* talked about it in Naruto, my guy. People got so, so sick of the Generation Xerox trope, and the "He's just like me!"-ing of every villain became a meme in the fandom for a reason. If people don't like something, they generally don't like it whenever it comes up, so it is with repetitiveness.

    • @flux_casey
      @flux_casey ปีที่แล้ว

      @Excaliber682 The entire plot structure reused. You can try to break it down into its constituent parts of "Oh, he only repeated this tiny thing" but no, the story moves near enough the exact same way beat for beat. The only exceptions being in Hueco Mundo the female character gets to win a somewhat important fight (kind of) and Ichigo doesn't get slapped with a weekend training camp for his eleventh hour power up.
      Honestly, it's a little weird to see defenses of this particular thing. Because you've got half of people saying it's only superficial similarities and people are overstating it. Then you've got people saying that yes it's repetitive, because it's on purpose as a reflection of Soul Society as a "we're not that different" kind of thing.
      Thing is, it doesn't matter. Whichever way you want to justify it, you do you. If you still like it, like it! If you don't mind, more power to you! My issue comes in when people feel like to defend the thing they like, they have to attack the people who don't like it and essentially call them hypocrites. That ain't cool. We have different tastes and preferences and that's fine.

    • @flux_casey

    • @flux_casey
      @flux_casey ปีที่แล้ว

      @Excaliber682 Directed at me? I didn't say an insult was directed at me. I said pretty specifically that you present a superior attitude toward people who don't like the thing you like and like to invent reasons why their opinions are wrong.
      And I'll just say this last thing about themes. Having a theme does not automatically equal good. It doesn't. For example, like it or not, Naruto did have a theme of hard work versus talent, but only for the Chunin Exam arc. They talk about it so very much in that arc. It's not as prevalent in the rest of the series, in fact it's directly undermined by later events, and you can say that's fine because the overall series wasn't about that one theme and it had moved on. But it was still part of the same work. The audience were primed to think about hard work versus talent and you can't unring that bell. That's one way to handle a theme poorly. They aren't disposable.
      Another way to handle a theme poorly. Make it so obtuse that nobody gets it unless they watch a youtube video from someone who cares about it way more than you do so they can explain it for you. Let me ask you something. When you first read/watched Bleach, did you get the thing about reflection that you didn't mention until I brought it up? Did you see Grimmjow, Ulquiorra, Szayelapporo, Neliel's transformation and realise "Oh! I see! How insightful, a direct counterpoint to the Soul Society, because they are in fact two sides of the same coin! What delightful narrative metaphor!"
      Gonna take a stab in the dark... And say you didn't. And that's not me calling you ignorant or looking down on you. I didn't see it either (and... there are good arguments that it's actually bollocks but let's not on that point). The reality is, the audience weren't primed to think of it in those terms. For someone to get your work, you have to make clear what you're trying to get across. If you don't do that, you're instead waiting for youtube muppets to comb over the series and hopefully find it. Assuming of course that they don't instead come up with some conspiratorial Matpat Game Theory nonsense instead.
      All well and good having a theme. But if your audience don't get it, you still screwed up. We can say what we want about how later Naruto undermined it, at least during the Chunin Exam arc people picked up what they were putting down.

      But others too. We knew all high ranking soul reapers had Shikai and some Bankai. So claiming that them using those things we knew they had a high chance of having (hell most of the time we had the certainty) being a deus ex machina is so stupid.

Technically tons of Stands have multiple powers and we see with the prior Stands in that arc that thats true, so by those arguments star finger is equally not a "deus ex", but it is deeply unsatisfying..

      Yes, obviously, we knew about shikais and bankais. But boy, isn't it convent that they can pull this off *the exact moment* they need it?
      What if Kenpachi *haven't* achieved his Bankai? Dead. Ichigo's training still didn't let him to reach the power level needed to defeat Aizen? Dead. What if Mayuri would be *serious* in his fight against Ishida? Pulling *stronger* Bankai or Nemu betting his ass like she did with God's Hand? Oh boy he was dead.
      I think SEW should have compared Bleach fights to Naruto ones. Yes they are obviously Bleach-like fights when Gaara's team arrives very conviently, just in time to save Konoha boys, or Choji eating dangerous pills to become stronger which were NEVER mentioned before, but let's look at good ones, for example, Naruto vs Neji.
      If Naruto turned into Nine-Tails Fox, would it be Deus Ex Machina? No, of course not. It was stated at the very first chapter, we know about this power. It could have been pretty cool if Naruto, pretty desperate to win, broke his seal and showed this arrogant asshole what real power tastes like. But I really liked what Kishimoto does in this battle- Naruto *outsmarts* his opponent using the same very technique any child knows about. This fight was never about he's more powerful, it always was about hard work *can* beat talent. It was about "if you're just lucky to be born with talent it doesn't mean you're better than everyone else".

And that is that said power is about granting one's heart's desire. And that comes back both emotionally and thematically in Ichigo crushing Aizen. I really like this idea of "technical' and "emotional" narratives. Marrying those two things well is the hardest thing about storytelling. Anime obviously tends to focus more on the emotional side, but when you see those arcs that manage to nail something technical in the course of expressing its emotions, it's always the most impressive. Great video!

      Similarly, this is also what differentiates good blockbusters from bad blockbusters in movies, and it's the reason why Marvel Studios and some DC movies have been doing so well compared to their weaker competitors (Sony, Fox): all companies can be and most of the times ARE tied when it comes to spectacle and big fights, aka "technical" narrative, because the techonlogy is there. But the public has become deeply invested in some of the emotional narratives within them, building a very solid fanbase for let's say Captain America and having no one give a fuck about the last few X-Men movies.
      A similar thing happens in the shonen genre. Anyone can hire the coolest animator and throw some Sakuga in their show, but emotional narrative and investment in it IS what ultimately makes or breaks the story and keeps people from dropping an action show or manga. The weaving of emotional narrative and character development into very popular action series like Kimetsu no Yaiba and My Hero Academia is a big part of what has made them stupidly popular, and the lack of it is what made Bleach fall.

You can have the most sappy, built up emotionally driven battle about to go down....but if its executed in a half assed way......what the hell was the point of all the build up? A lack luster fight...is a waste of time. And Ichigo vs Aizen in a technical way.....was lacking. Technicality, brings out the personalities of the characters in the conflict through the fighting style without words. How far they are willingly to go, what they learned, what they lack etc. All through actions. Each blow should have you nearly sweating and or crying....SOMETHING and it should be visually stunning.
      To say it shortly...you need balance. You cant have this boring ass fight that supposedly had so much emotion backing it up. And you cant have this well animated or choreographed fight for the fuck of it because it will just be....another fight.

    34:40 Acctually, the fact that the Arrancar Arc was the best selling arc in the history of Bleach is reflective of a very common occurence in serialized media - stories/sequels that come AFTER the best parts of the story are the most popular, because so many people were talking/enjoying the story before. It also works the other way round - the LEAST popular instalments are those AFTER those that were actually the worst, because of how dissapointed people are. The quality of the laters stories is largely irrelevant, there's certain inertia to popularity.

      And The Last Jedi made a lot less money than The Force Awakens too ("only" 1 billon 300 millions, which is way less that the 2 millions of The Force Awakens), a lot of people were already disappointed by The Force Awaken. No matter if you think of it as better or less good than The Last Jedi, it's still miles away from the original trilogy, or even the prequels.
      Also Rise Of The Skywalker was terrible, I think we can all agree on that.

      This is also common with sequels. If a game or movie is really good and becomes popular, the sequel usually does REALLY well. In the other hand, if a game or movie is garbage, it's usually the sequel to that garbage that pays the price. Even when said sequel is much better than the original.

      You're kinda right, but in Bleach's case, no. There's a reasonable romanticism with the Soul Society arc but manga volumes aren't sold in one go like movies. The Arrancar Arc was the most popular arc because it was the most well-received one. People act like Bleach went downhill after Soul Society only in retrospect due to their dissatisfaction with the resolution of Aizen's defeat. The arc itself was fine.

      Honestly as a writer, I dont think he is even bad. His arcs and characters (especially early on) have a natural flow and relationship chart that feels more like One Piece where characters have intimate and intertwined stories with one another.
      And I literally just wrote a villain who is basically a recontexualization of Aizen. And I will say it, Bankai is honestly the best ‘evolution’ of a power system that feels even more natural then Sacred Energy (YYH), Awakening (One Piece), Super Sayain (DBZ) and Reincarnated God Jesus (Naruto)
      His only fault I think his that he is so creative with characters that he just...makes too god damn many. Somehow, the Soul Society seems to have less screen time then the Real World and that is just a big old boo for me (why make a magical heaven, hell and royal palace not develop it?)
      Well that one is more general, but the point is some characters in all these locations are only seen sometimes, with Captains being the main focus. (Lieutenants seem to lose prominence unless your name is Renji Abarai). Arrancar are killed off and we don’t care about Fullbringers.
      Then he made another power system (Kido), then another one (Arrancars), then another (I gave up after trying to figure out Quincies ngl)
      I sort of think this sort of bloat just blatantly reads as building without going deeper and deeper into the foundation. Honestly I would have been happy with just the Quincies taking Bankai and not having their own abilities to show how very, very serious the arc could be. And I mean that for ALL Bankai users.
      I dont know, I havent written a multi million dollar franchise so maybe I am full of shit. Tldr: He is not a bad writer, he has a lot of good promise with the social side of story telling, his technical side needs some work and his worldbuilding is...hit or miss.
      Take my opinion with a grain of salt, I basically am part of Aizen’s plan because even I had to make my own Aizen.

      @Maestro Flo I haven’t read the manga but the two biggest problems are the arc structure and lore. As much as I like the Bleach lore it does get boring, that’s just me tho. The arc structure is horrible, every time an arc ends the universe just goes back to normal. Of course the Art of the Shinagami arc and the Soul Society: The Sneak Entry arc are great but after that the story has layers of plot armor and is just repetitive. After finishing the anime and the movies including filler I read the 1,000 Year Blood War arc and it was just as good as the first two arcs. I still love Bleach with my heart and soul, I love the character designs I love Ichigo and Aizen also btw the main cast gets really stale and the piccolo affect literally happens to everyone except Ichigo.
      I imagine by this comment you’re a Bleach fan boy like me but just except every story has flaws, you may think these critics are stupid and I respect that but don’t say it’s hated on for no reason that’s just ignorant.
      TLDR; As much as I love Bleach, watch the anime and the filler, watched the movies and read the 1,000 Year Blood War arc it’s not perfect, every story has flaws you may think that it has different flaws than I said, but it still has flaws so no it’s not hated on for no reason

We saw Soul Society cruel, Ichigo came, they changed a little, and we still have the Novel who explore Soul Society more. I think the reason some people dont enjoy Bleach that much is because most of the increases in power and training is more about the characters having self discovery and acceptance, not so much about "Heres a technique, heres how to learn it." Every time Ichigo becomes more powerful he is letting go of fear, gaining resolve, overcoming trauma, and later on learning the true nature of his heritage and accepting himself. Each time he further accepts himself, the more power he can tap into.

When you have to rely on TH-camrs or have a masters degree in Bleach World Studies to explain how the power system makes sense actually it might aswell not make sense for the average viewer. If this powering up had any impact on his fighting style, a new strategy or on how he used this new poet in contrasted to his pre-existing powers these more abstract powering ups would have felt less like Deus ex machina. Ichigo while going through a lot of emotional growth fails to demonstrate that through his fighting style past just being “stronger due to a new power available to him”.

      As someone who loves Bleach I disagree. While the nature of power ups isn’t for everyone, it doesn’t exactly feel like that’s the sole or even primary reason. In my experience with Bleach I always felt that the power ups as genuine character milestones were super hit or miss. After their respective arcs Ichigo never touches Hollow Mask or Fullbring again, as if those powers were seasonal events in an MMO. So the only change that “sticks” in those instances is his power level, as if he’s shoved those parts of himself back into the proverbial closet. It would be like post SSJ Goku going back to using only Kaioken after coming to terms with his Saiyan heritage. The only powerups that I think truly stuck were his initial Bankai and his True Shikai. And Ichigo is on the better side of things. Characters like Chad and Orihime just get powers (the latter getting one of the most absurd hax) with barely an explanation, only for Kubo to just not let them do anything.
      I still love Bleach for the astronomical highs it can reach, but I can’t be one of those people who go “you’re not cultured enough to understand Bleach” that the internet always joke about.

    What confuses me most about where Bleach went is how it starts out being so much about the dangers of unjust hierarchies, exemplified in the Soul Society arc by a focal villain so blinded by his devotion to "duty" that he kills indiscriminately to _make sure_ his beloved sister gets executed for a ridiculous non-crime, and an organization so morally bankrupt it employs a sadistic murder clown to torture people to death for the crime of defending themselves against literal monsters.
    And then they just. Become good guys? As soon as the tyrannical regime goes back on the one thing that made the protagonists angry in the first place, the tyrants get to become supporting heroes. And the goal of every villain from then on is to destroy Soul Society, which the protagonists are now prepared to defend with their lives despite the fact that ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HAS CHANGED to make it anything but a genocidal military dictatorship. They even keep bringing up the atrocities the Soul Reapers have _and continue to_ engage in, but for some reason we're just supposed to accept it now?
    The series should have ended with Soul Society burnt to the fucking ground and something better rising from the ashes, not a glitzy "look how far they've come~" wide shot of a ruling council that still includes KUROTSUCHI FUCKING MAYURI

      It IS important to remember that the Soul Society didn't just represent a flawed system. It was a society that committed moral and interpersonal injustices for the sake of the greater good. While they were presented as antagonists for the purpose of the arc, and overall the story did push the narrative that moral justice couldn't just be abandoned for the sake of the greater good, they were still ultimately protecting the world by maintaining the imbalance of souls and preventing hollows from devouring humans en masse. I haven't dug into the entire story in a while, but if I recall correctly, there are points later on when it is implied that the Soul Society has loosened up on its immoral rules, and this is definitely reflected in the growth of a lot of the early captains we're introduced to. Mayuri is actually a good example, since by the time you reach the final arc, he's doing some of the most good out of the cast (saving Kenpachi and the others from Squad 11, reviving the literal dead, showing more compassion towards Nemu.) You see this in other characters like Soifon and her softening attitude over the course of the story, Byakuya in his growing compassion towards Rukia and when he actually claims he's taking Zommari down for the sake of personal justice (protecting Rukia) rather than legal obligation - not to mention when he literally begs Ichigo, the result of something that was previously considered a grave crime by his organisation, to save the Soul Society in his stead. Even the Central 46 seem to get phased out of authority once Shunsui takes over as captain commander and pretty much explicitly acts against them in training Kenpachi.

      @@flatsnark2516 but that's even worse. Framing such a fundamentally evil organization as merely flawed, forced to do awful things "for the greater good" - that's how people actually justify real-world atrocities.
      Mayuri is again the perfect example. As you say, he does some good things during the Thousand Year Blood War, but he also wholesale slaughters 28000 innocent Rukongai denizens to "maintain balance", which he gets pushback over but doesn't ultimately suffer any consequences for. So either we're stanning an organization where the unnecessary mass murder of tens of thousands is a slap-on-the-wrist kind of offense, or Kubo Tite has bent himself backwards to create a situation where the mass murder of tens of thousands is necessary and morally justified, neither of which reflects particularly well on the series.
      (Also, acknowledging that he "does good" kind of requires us to once again assume that "good" is synonymous with "defending Soul Society", which uh I don't really agree with)

    One note on sales figures as a sign of quality:
    It is rare that a series' sales/viewership will decline after a single bad story arc or poorly received plot development, especially if it has been going for a long time. Most series are inconsistent in their quality, after all, and so there are always plenty of people willing to ride out a bad/disappointing arc to see if things get better.
    Instead, the substantial decline in sales tends to begin sometime after, when people begin to realize the earlier bad arc was not an anomaly and that the quality is unlikely to return to its original highs. In other words, sales of a long-running series represent not a decline in quality, but a decline in the fans' faith that things will improve. When people run out of faith in the series, they decide to put their money, time and emotional energy elsewhere.

      it's happening right now with MHA,

      You name it. That's just the natural cycle of a manga. And hell even at it's worst Bleach was only 6 thousand sales below the best Gintama volume. Currently MHA is only 7 thousand above the worst of Bleach, and as long as the series keeps going, chances are the numbers will drop more. This without taking into consideration that Bleach is way longer than most of the series I linked here and therefore the trend of some people dropping out before the next volume was way longer compared to others
      That's just how the natural cycle goes .

      @Mrinsecure 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@revlarmilion9574 Lots of manga wind up going long after the ending that was originally planned for them, especially when you're talking about serialized shounen manga. The problem is Kubo never gave Bleach the foundation it needed to keep going after that original ending point. To do that, it would've needed at least one of three things:
      1) A strongly motivated central character who can push the story forward on the strength of his personal drive.
      2) A richly detailed world that new conflicts can naturally emerge from, even once all current conflicts are settled.
      3) A willingness to explore the natural consequences of previously established events.
      Unfortunately, Ichigo is a largely reactive character with little internal motivation, who doesn't concern himself with things like protecting others or getting stronger unless there's an active ongoing threat (and, sadly, none of the other characters were strong enough on their own to assume the protagonist mantle for him). The world was also not very well defined, so there wasn't much for a new threat to naturally emerge from. And Kubo only decided to go to the Quincy well after an entire arc that ultimately went nowhere.
      Honestly, if I were Kubo, I'd have pulled a Jojo and just done a completely different protagonist after Ichigo beat Aizen. Let him have his victory, and focus on something else without the weight of Ichigo's non-character bogging the story down. But, obviously, that didn't happen.

    One thing I did like in the Fullbringer arc was the psychological warfare Tsukishima inflicted upon a de-powered Ichigo by somewhat, but not fully, turning Ichigo's loved ones against him. To them, Ichigo is a loved one who has snapped (possibly from the combination of the stress of his previous battles, loss of power/connection to the spirit world, and perhaps graduation from high school and all the problems that entails) and is lashing out against another trusted friend/family member. Tsukishima took the very reason Ichigo fought which was to protect his loved ones and somewhat turned that against him and (at least for a while) it feels like this isn't a problem Ichigo could solve with sheer power. It didn't last very long, but it was interesting for a minute.
    This arc also cemented the sheer uselessness of Chad and Orihime for me. I really wished they would have a moment like Byakuya where their relationship with Ichigo ends up winning out over the effects of Book of the End, but nope they're just unwitting pawns of Tsukishima and then they get knocked out when the actual reinforcements arrive.
    I don't have anything else to say, this video was great and I hope it reaches heights further than the old one.

That point in the series was actually really compelling and for the first time in years I thought that Kubo might be able to turn the series around and make it interesting again. To learn that it was the series lowpoint in popularity is really depressing and recontextualises the utterly lazy way the popular soul society characters show up in the end of the arc to pose stoically and destroy the Fullbringers. If you ever had a shonen jump in your hand you understand the appeal of full tome has not finish, inking is missing and background not fully developed are in Jump. So on top of creating a story at a crazy pace they have to redo some of their work. That’s plus the fact that the magazine might force you to continue working on a project, due to the marketing appeal and merchandising of said série that you don’t care for anymore are massive clue why and how some of our favourite série go downhill. I’ll say that WEBTOON might be healthier for their author but you still see the over exhaustion of some artist on those project. 36:20 The wackest thing is, the Ichigo vs Aizen fight does have a narrative behind it, it's just that the narrative is thrown away for Final Getsugatenshou. (SPOILERS AHEAD)
    In this arc, there's a massive bombshell twist that Aizen drops on Ichigo; he's the reason behind Ichigo's rise to power.
    Aizen brags that the ever-increasing difficulty of his fights was due to Aizen deliberately setting up each successive fight to intentionally grow Ichigo's power. That EVERYTHING Ichigo has done, from encountering Rukia, to becoming a soul reaper, to invading the soul society, was essentially all part of Aizen's 12D chess game (or at least within his calculations).
    In the Thousand-Year Blood War it's revealed (SPOILERS AGAIN) that Ichigo's parents met due to an encounter with Aizen's pet hollow, White, so there's even an argument to be made that Icihgo's birth was organised by Aizen (though this is a stretch).
    So there's a whole 'created rising to surpass the creator' narrative that is just ripe for the taking but ultimately goes nowhere.

      SamuraiBeluga I’m honestly not sure why you think it matters what technical allusions he was making the realms when the actual writing that matter e.g. the plot, battles and the characters were so empty in that arc. Yes the fact that it was a realm of empty nothingness fundamentally reflects that they were hollowly searching for something more but it also has the downside of giving all the Arrancar a base underlying motivation that was the same while he only actually fleshed out a few of them beyond that.

    Thousand Year Blood War is going to be hype, but I hope they fix the ending. Right now the ending just makes it feel like Kubo got tired and just wanted to sleep already.
    Still, I can never hate Bleach (Maybe the fullbringer arc, I won't even defend that, it's just mediocre) it's shaped me into the person I am today.

      Kubo was rushed by jump, you can see the quality dip drastically after the kenpachi vs kenpachi fight duel. Not only does the pacing ramp up much faster, with many fights being ended prematurely (yorichi/urahara or Shunsui / his lieutenant or ishida fights), ya know the big ones we've been waiting for? Really sucks.

    • @alphawolf7417
      @alphawolf7417 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well there's a lot more then just the ending that needs fixing. A lot of fights felt short or inconclusive. A lot of plot points just were glossed over completely. A large majority of the Quincy have no real background to make you even remotely connect to them. And overall the final few battles felt really short and anticlimactic. I still love the finale though so i hope they don't alter it that much or at all.

    • @invertbrid

      Yap the final fight was such a shame......i get kubo was rushed that time so hopefully he can do better this time and give ichigo what he deserved. We didnt even get to see his final bankai power yet.
      Also timeskip also feel rushed....tho later on a novel (CFYOW) that covers what happened after TYBW arc but before timeskip, takes place 6 months after end of war. There a lot of infos and details covered in that novel, about soul king, soul society past, etc.
      Hopefully they make OVA or movie for CFYOW....if cant include it in anime.

      I am 100% ok with characters unleashing new moves almost out of nowhere, you know they have a hidden card and they will use it at one point.
      However, what i am not ok with, is when the secret hidden card is specifically tailored to counter the opponent's own secret card, that's way too much bullshit.
      So you are gonna tell me that each time, for each match up, every single character was hiding a secret power that was gonna be useless unless they unleashed it just to counter the secret power of this one bad guy? come the fuck on!

      a lot of the fights he references though are awful examples for what he is trying to say, yumichika's shikai is super foreshadowed, its obvious that rukia would use her shikai, its like saying jotaro won a fight with star platinum, thats literally rukia's ability. there are definitely a lot of moments that i agree with, like most uryu fights. but saying "yoroichi won her fight with her brand new shunko" when... thats literally her main and only ability and both she and soi fon have it is just... strange
      i mean its like saying rock lee vs gaara has "poor technical narrative" because we didn't know about the gates or that lee could use them. it doesnt make any sense.

    Here's my theory of why Bleach anime got canceled. The final arc was kinda just getting started when the Fullbring anime arc was wrapping up. So the studio would either have to do another long filler arc to give them time for more chapters to come out as they did before, do it like Naruto and throw in some filler stories in between at random, or just cancel it and maybe bring it back later.
