That was in incredible video Dan! The work required to bore out those tunnels and cut the basalt for the outside stretches is mind boggling, great job capturing that!
This is the second drone video of yours that I have watched. You are an excellent drone and camera pilot and the subject matter is spectacular. Not only do you show excellent footage of the train but the terrain of the Columbia lava fields (which occurred over a significant period 15 to 17 million years ago) and ripped through by the Missoula floods around 15000 years ago. I watch in awe at the awesomeness of nature that occurs on earth. I will certainly binge watch all of your drone videos. I hope they are as good as the two I have watched so far. Greetings from the Train Lord in South Australia a long way away from this spectacular action.
an, thank you for documenting this empty BNSF coal train as it traversed the Union Pacific's Ayers Subdivision along the Palouse River in the vicinity of Palouse Falls in the State of Washington on 1 October 2018! The drone footage of the train was breathtaking as the train snaked through tunnels and deep cuts. This video appeared on my TH-cam channel feed on 14 January 2025. I am happy that I had a chance to view this video. (Posted on 14 January 2025 at 202 CST.)
Thanks again my friend! This is a special one because this BNSF coal train doesn't run anymore. It was a once or twice a week train that used to run on the Ayer Sub down to Boardman Oregon but that operation ended some years ago.
fantastic video!! I've been studying the Palouse and Columbia river gorges and ice age floods. Incredible erosion and an amazing engineering feet later to build a railroad along the river gorge. Great drone footage as well. Nice job!
Hi Dan, I worked state hiway in this area to the Snake River. Watched the trains cross the tressel over the river; one of the longer tressels in the country. Built-in the 1930's I believe, with hot rivets and flat iron design. Amazing the engineering!!
You would certainly be super-amazed by some Chinese and Tibetan landscapes! www.theatlantic.com/photo/2015/10/the-dramatic-landscape-of-chinas-gansu-province/411736/
Great aerial view. I used to ride a GN local in the late 1940's from Spokane to Moscow, ID. Beautiful trip. The Palouse area is famous for some hard cold winters.
United States for the best world of the world, country of the most beautiful landscapes. Home of the best things. I am Costa Rican I have great friends in USA. Lords You are pure quality Greetings and excellent videos God bless you
This is look like a toy train but it really beautiful place and awesome train i have always love the train from childhood still now lol.... LOVE THIS & also love the music background😍😍
What type of UAS were you flying and how were you able to fly backwards within the canyon for such a long distance? Weren't you concerned about crashing?
Phantom 4 Pro here. I constantly flip around forward to check behind me to make sure I'm in the clear to keep flying backwards and being above most of the land for the flight I wasn't too concerned.
I wonder why they didn't just place the tracks higher up so they would not have to make so many cuts and tunnels? The best part of the video for me is the shot where the train is crossing over the bridge. The video is nearly perfect, good length, awesome footage.
That is a spectacular video in that you did it in one shot. Maybe the best single railfan video i've ever seen. Is the rock soft in that area? It looks like it was cut with a knife.
If that was any other heavy industry than a railroad, the environmentalists including me would be screaming about the destruction of a beautifuland natural scene. But somehow the grace and scale of a train running through just enhances the beauty. Why is that?
Now, this was one beautiful outstanding video. they did a lot of digging and blasting to make that railroad. I see that man has not around to screwing up the beauty of the land, but give them time and they will get around to it. When did they make this railway? thanks for a very beautiful video.
Nicely done. I also fly a phantom 4. Was it a continuous flight or did you relocate between flights. What is your maximum flight distance? I start to lose signal ~1.5 miles away.
Excellent drone footage! Being a drone pilot myself, may I ask if you were using the DJI Phantom 4 Follow Me mode from the train at all? I use the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom drones.
For very interesting viewing watch videos done by Nick Zentner of CWU. He does an awesome talk about the geology all over Washington State. WAAAYYY back when this entire area was super flooded with Glacial Lake Missoula
Magnifique paysage... je vous envie, en Suisse cela n'existe pas des paysages pareilles... c'est dans quel état des Etats-Unis cette magnifique région...?
Hi Patrik, this is in Washington State in the north west corner of the USA. This section of rail lies along the Palouse River. The GPS for the area is about 46.664N, 118.229W.
at 2:25 there is a bridge -where is that? would like to go there once and watch trains passing by from above -thank you, best regards, FB in Switzerland
That bridge is part of the main road that brings you to Palouse Falls State Park. Very easy access for anyone. It is a neat location but the unfortunate part is that there are not too many trains that traverse this route on a given day. I believe it sees about 4-7 trains on average within a 24 hour period.
Asante ndugu Boniface kwahyo hayo mapango yote zinapo pita hizo engine za BNSF ndio marvelous?? mm nimpenz mkubwa sana wa BNSF shida yangu nataka kujua zina pita kwenye reli ya mita gauge au standard gouged?? Mana zinanguvu sana pia najua zitakua na 6 traction motor sasa kila moja ina HP ngapi? hili swali kama BNSF wata nisaidia ntafurah sana,,pulling zake sio za kawaida zaid ya behewa 300 too much.
Imagery is so mind blowing that I thought it wasn’t real. It looks like a super elaborate train set. Simply amazing.
Yes it is amazing
That was in incredible video Dan! The work required to bore out those tunnels and cut the basalt for the outside stretches is mind boggling, great job capturing that!
Thanks! This area is really incredible and I have been hankering to make it back here. I'm glad I got what I did in this video at least!
This is beyond crazy. Looking at this terrain, I would have assumed that a track can never be laid here! American spirit at its best! BRAVO!!!!!
Thanks! Yes this location really is pretty mind blowing! One of if not the most rugged location in the Northwest.

Great job on the condensed overview.... Well done!!
Holy smokes, I had no idea that existed. Never, EVER seen a photograph, much less a vid, and now this? Goot chob!
America, north and south, have much astounding railway scenery.
Great scenic country made better by your fantastic drone shots of a train moving through it.
Wow! When I thought I've saw the best train scenes, you come back with one to top the other. This is Woo Woo awesome.
Thank you!

Extreme railroading at it's finest! Excellent drone work! WOW....... I miss my home of Washington State.
You seem to find the most breathtaking scenery to aerially film the action. Fantastic.
I make a point to go to the good spots :)
your videos are FANTASTIC - thank you so much for posting for everyone who doesn't live there to enjoy.
Absolutely stunning. Almost brings tears to the eyes.

All i can say is "Wow",you got some awesome drone skills man!Love the backing track too, sounds great and fits the scene, great job!!!

The grandeur and diversity of landscapes in the USA never ceases to amaze me. And some great shooting, btw.

Train engineers have the coolest job. Excellent scenery to enjoy without having to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road...
No cruise control. The train driver and head brakeman have to keep their eyes on the road. Every grade crossing requires - - - ----.
Wonderful, lived in eastern Washington...past history.
Beautiful country
Dan, this is just above and beyond super great!!!! I really love it!!!!
Great aerial view. I used to ride a GN local in the late 1940's from Spokane to Moscow, ID. Beautiful trip. The Palouse area is famous for some hard cold winters.
That's really beautiful country. Great job following him!
Northbound through the Palouse River Canyon, awesome...
Great piece of Union Pacific engineering, with a slight uphill grade.
So awesome. Love that drones have given us the ability to get great footage like this.
This is one of my favorite videos! Awesome footage
WOW! What a wonderful country we live in. This looks like the grand canyon of the northwest. Great flying
This was by far the best drone video i have ever seen.
United States for the best world of the world, country of the most beautiful landscapes. Home of the best things. I am Costa Rican I have great friends in USA. Lords You are pure quality Greetings and excellent videos God bless you
Another awesome video Dan. That Phantom has a long range. A lot of work to cut out those trenches for the tracks.
Brilliant video. Is that the waterfall overlook on the left around 2:32 ?
Correct! Yes that is it.
Kick-Ass video again...thank you Railfan Dan...
Another fantastic drone video. Really well done.
Absolutely beautiful scenery! Very well done.
Fantastic clip Dan. Cheers
Great video. Congratulations! Thanks for sharing
Spectacular video! Well done.
This is look like a toy train but it really beautiful place and awesome train i have always love the train from childhood still now lol.... LOVE THIS & also love the music background😍😍
This a magnificent video if Not one of the best I've seen. I'm subscribing!!
Beautiful.
Really love your stuff, and am looking forward to visiting a few of these amazing places...❤
Wow! That's just great! Your videos just keep getting better and better.
Thanks Dan, superb footage.
Absolutely stunning! Extremely well done.
Another work of art - good on ya Dan.

I think more like to keep grade steady. Keep it at 1% lot of most tracks had to cut through the mountain to keep the grade at same level.
Piekna natura i wspanialy film. Dzieki.
Great video. And music too!
Строители изрядно попотели копая грунт под пути... Лайк за съёмки!
Wow! Incredible stretch of track.
It really is!
Amazing, beautiful scenery...
It would be interesting to learn how that landscape formed. Looks like several old landslides along the way.
Missoula floods was the main cause, but the river gouged out the canyon.
your the man Dan.Keep em comming
I like the aerial view of that Ares train pass ..huge dessert land
Magnifique. Thank you.
That's some mighty fine flying. Awesome geography.
Fantastic looking N Scale ;-) layout. I wish I could build something like that!
Great video...Thank you!
That is a spectacular video in that you did it in one shot. Maybe the best single railfan video i've ever seen. Is the rock soft in that area? It looks like it was cut with a knife.
Excellent pilot Thanks

That beautiful sight it look like a snake between the mountains 💯💖
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Is very difficult to setup railway track there, hats off the railway track set up workers👌👍✌️🙏
Cool lookin place. America has so many unseen places why travel abroad.
Are you talking about the entire continent, or just the USA?
Wow that's a beautiful scenery of bnsf coal train
Thanks

I cannot believe I missed this !
Ha cool you found it!
Fantastic video man! Keep up the good work.
Excellent video. Perfectly titled, less the 'drone' bullshit. Well done Dan. Looks like it's an Octocopter by the smooth footage. 😎👍
Fantastic the best video I've ever seen
Great video! Amazing!

Very nice drone video.
Fantastic video😮
How do you find these places!? The scenery is majestic! The background music very fitting.
Superb 👍 excellent video 👍
Great Shot !
Excellent drone footage! Being a drone pilot myself, may I ask if you were using the DJI Phantom 4 Follow Me mode from the train at all? I use the Mavic 2 Pro and Zoom drones.
Wow how do you do that without losing the signal to drone?
I think he is the train driver
If he was the train driver, he would lose the signal to drone in the tunnels.
For very interesting viewing watch videos done by Nick Zentner of CWU. He does an awesome talk about the geology all over Washington State. WAAAYYY back when this entire area was super flooded with Glacial Lake Missoula
Great video, fantastic camera work everything perfect except for the jarring music.👍👍
Absolutely stunning. Incredible drone piloting. From where is the drone controlled ? The range of the drone seems to be incredible !
Dan, are you the same Dan who I've bought railfan merchandise off of on eBay?BTW, the most stunning train footage I've ever seen. Amazing.
I don't believe so. I've only sold HO models on eBay. Thank you!
Wonderful video👍🎆
arif qazi 👌
Beautiful !!
Awesome video overall.
Beautiful, Breathtaking! Is this the former Northern Pacific Route?
Thanks! This is UP's route which was built under the Oregon Washington Railroad & Navigation Company.
wow great video bro
Amazing my friend

Beautifull, Thank You!
Beautiful place
Unearthly. Incredible!
I sure would like to have a cab view during this trip...
Above the hill it is all most plain why they have not constructed railway line on the mountains .
Who can create this amazing way???....I LOVE BNSF LOCOS welcome to Tanzania to give us this Engine...god will give uuu more than this.asante sana
