Just picked this up a few days ago. So excited to use these core sounds. And so far impressed with Spitfire Solar editor as well. Checking vids on the subject to help my learning curve and yours was great. Thank you!

This is a spectacular review of the Spitfire stuff. My only quibble has nothing to do with your explication of things - it's more a problem with Spitfire using an interface that (unlike earlier more Kontakt-based stuff) that kills the opportunity to do any microtuning/using !12tET scales, etc This is something that Spitfire has done with a lot of their recent products, and I certainly understand why something like support for the Scala tuning format might be a lot of effort for what they expect might be minimal returns, but two things come to mind. First, Chas was doing microtonal work all the time, and the lack of those options seems particularly poignant in light of his own work. Secondly, the notion of what some of us refer to as the "decolonization" of electronic music would be a perfect idea for this library, whether it be maqams, Thai, Gagaku, Balinese, or any number of African traditions (amadinda comes to mind here, offhand). Don't get me wrong - even the post-Izotope versions of Kontakt have deep-sixed microtuning. But thinking of Chas' tendency to locate his timbres well outside of 12tET, it's just a little sad to see this stuck in traditional Equal Temperament.

Once again your review brings out the beauty of an instrument that I otherwise would not have taken a note of. I have numerous synthesizer plugins, especially after having purchased the Arturia V collection, which does a terrific job of modeling the iconic vintage synths, as the CS80 and DX7. However, these instruments sound somehow static and clinical to me now. I think it is because I've experienced some truly wonderful sample libraries from Spitfire, many of which have a synth engine sitting on top. At first I thought, why am I wasting gigabytes of hard drive space on synthesizer libraries, when the synths I have are so much leaner and in many cases so much more configurable? But now I can clearly hear how much more nuanced the underlying waveforms are with sample-based synthesizers. My two favorites are Spitfire's London Contemporary Orchestra Textures and Native Instruments Arkhis. I decided to get this library too, because of the wonderful and unique samples. At this point in my life, I am not interested in doing my own sound design, so I very much appreciate when someone else does the work for me.

This pairs beautifully with Arkis. I did a bunch of stacked trials with other synths that were amazing but the review was just getting too long

Great video. With a lot of reviews I look at to gain insights / new approaches to instruments like mercury during work, I always find myself skipping through hurriedly which negatively affects my understanding. however I sat through all of this without even realising. Your presentation style and your enthusiasm both add to the feeling of you being a great tutor rather than a TH-cam reviewer. I really appreciate it, you'll be my first port of call for anything I'm curious / lost on from now on.

Great video and great timing. I just picked this up a couple days ago and I’m already obsessed. The walk thru filled in some blanks nicely.

I am very impressed with your professional review. They present and explain this new type of sound library very well. A powerful tool with many facets. Really interesting these metal instruments by this creative master Chas Smith.
I think it will also be interesting to combine it with Spitfire's PHOBOS sound library. I already have a few ideas in my head. Many thanks and greetings from Hamburg Björn

Chris, I'm not getting notifications for new videos from you.

I’m dialing back a bit the past week or so. I think it’ll look like 3 or 4 videos a week going forward, instead of the daily output. I’ve got a show and performances upcoming, and all my regular students return beginning tomorrow. Busy world. That said, I’ve dropped a few this week, so there may be an issue. I’ll look into it. Thanks.

@@ImpliedMusic It's been at least a week since last notification and I've heard of other youtubers with the same issue. May the force be with you Chris.

Not trying to cause a stir, just thought I would say that I have been getting the notifications this week. I think I did notice that there are only notifications for the full videos, but not for the shorts. But that may just be my imagination.

@@rbingraham this is all useful info. i'm looking at my setting to make sure nothing has changed. there's a couple of white papers on notifications from Google. they were worth a quick read.
