Looked forward to this so wall of text incoming:
FWIW Jonesy's skirt damage at Zandvoort was self-inflicted from what I recall after he had a needless off track excursion. James Hunt was very critical of him for it, so you definitely made the right pick (Argentina was also a bit iffy, but given how tricky the track conditions were we can forgive his few offs especially since he still won.)
Piquet had a few dodgy ones in '81, but yeah Monaco is probably the right pick. Jones did indeed have problems which let Villeneuve past, but the fact the Ferrari was even in contention is insane.
Williams were definitely mid at best at France '82 so you were right to rule it out. Non-turbo tax on a circuit absolutely dominated by turbo cars. Monza was kinda the same tbh but was maybe still the right call again for Keke's worst that year, although Belgium was pretty painful as he dominated the race but lost the lead with 2 laps to go because he'd shredded his tyres. His title-clinching race in Vegas was also pretty crap when you consider what other non-turbos like Alboreto and Watson were doing. He should really have been up there too given he was the fastest non-turbo most of the season.
Not much to say about Piquet's second and Lauda, but I'd say you got both right.
Prost '85, I dunno. If I were being charitable I'd say that he just cruised at Brands since he knew that Alboreto was out and all he had to do was bring it home to secure the title. I think I'd nominate Estoril instead, where he got bottled up behind Elio de Angelis and was totally unable to get by, before making an error and binning it from P3. Extremely tough conditions of course, but a notable error in a largely faultless season from Prost.
Speaking of faultless, I'm not surprised you struggled with Prost '86. Genuinely the strongest season ever by a driver IMO. Even Detroit I don't think you can really hold the shitty qualifying against him because that's just how McLaren were in 1986 due to not having special qualifying engines. Still probably the right pick though because his season was just so good.
I'm a bit less knowledgable of the late 80s, but I think you were largely correct. I'd personally put forward Monza instead of Monaco for Senna '88 though, purely because it was such a needless move on Schlesser that cost him the win. A couple of laps from the end, in a car seconds a lap faster than his, with nobody immediately behind. He could have just waited through the chicane and blasted past him on the straight, but instead he got impatient and it cost him the win. Compared to Monaco which was just a pure error, I think the headloss of Monza is worse personally.
Cheers for the upload though. Enjoy this series.

So what I do is, I check the full season results and search for DNFs and low finishes to find out what caused them. If it’s something like a mechanical failure then I ignore it but if it’s there doing I look deeper into it. Then I come to a decision for each season
