• SPRING GARDEN TOUR 201... -~-
Well, it was one little project this week but I FINALLY won the vintage doors argument. We are turning this 1980's Eco House into a legit French Farmhouse... a Country House if you will, and it's going to take FOREVER!
This house is loaded with horrible "perfectly good doors" featuring shiny, brass door knobs that kill a piece of my soul. I'm an old fashioned kind of gal who speaks the language of wonky door knobs and squeaky wood floors.
Joel, on the other hand, would be content to give all these doors a fresh coat of paint and call it a day. Not so fast painter man... let's go raid my stash of antique doors in the barn and take this project to the next level.
In the meantime, we are baking Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies and, scrolling Instagram and I'm THRILLED to see that precious Tasha Tudor's family is selling seeds from her garden. I was raised on Tasha Tudor and love to read my old books to my children.
It makes me happy that they know who she is and will cherish these seeds and flowers as much as I do.
Filming here in Door County in the Winter isn't always easy.
The days are long and DARK and it makes filming quite a challenge. But it's another week in the Everyday Château and we hope you enjoy!

Tasha Tudor was a favorite person to me. She was living in her dream. Not just looking at it from the outside. I used to have hot tea, on a cup and saucer, everyday. Now, I have juice or almond milk in a glass. I watch the Jussen brothers. Last night I listened to Mozart Requiem, k 626, 200th anniversary of his death, at St Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, 12-5-1991. I just love it. While I was reading decorating by Henrietta-Spencer-Churchhill, pub. Rizzoli. Lovely book. I'm getting ready to paint my house Equilibrium, a rich green and natural twine for trim. Took it from 1880's colors
My house built 1883 by German immigrant. He got here just in time for civil war. He entered thru NY, fought for The Union. He and his wife buried in The Roman Catholic cemetary. He had been born in Bavaria. Came here to escape wars.

I like the old door. I love anything old, doors, doorknobs, windows, light fixtures etc. The only thing I will buy new is a bed mattress lol

I love Tasha Tudor's art, but I really admired her lifestyle. When she passed, my oldest daughter bought the auction catalog of her costumes just so she could oooh and aaaah over the clothing pieces.
I only raised 2 kids but both like Aiden, hope I got his name right. Both are wonderful men and fathers and they both still make laugh. God is good all the time! Also Tasha fan. Loved watching you baking cookies. Brought back great memories. Thanks.

Love your family. Try some walnuts and raisins for your cookies. I even add chia seeds, pumpkin seeds. And a teaspoon of turmeric with the cinnamon. Basically the kitchen sink goes into my cookies. But everyone loves them and they learn to eat other spices and seeds.

Tasha Tudor was so sweet, likable, honest, inventive, determined, too many adjectives(JA). Year after year, more lovely.
There are good new doors. They are just expensive! We scavenged so much stuff for our house that we felt it was ok to spend up for the solid wood knotty alder doors with grooved raised panels. They have lots of deep knots. We did our 10 year and counting reno project cottage style 1 story so we can also age in place. We mixed three off the shelf stains to come up with a cool driftwood look. Worth every dime. My husband no way would go for old doors even though he has the skills to make them work. Sometimes I have to pick my battles but he was right in this case. 😊. So nice to have a very skilled man in the house who knows his knobs! 😂. I love how your place has come along.

This makes me miss making cookies with my Grandson when he was younger.
Lol...ah...home improvement! It's SO tedious, yet rewarding. My husband and I teamed up (Lord help us!) this past Sunday to fix the clothes drier our darling child broke by over loading it -- the pully belt snapped. After some sweat, amazingly no blood, and some tears (supplied by yours truly) and yes -- a few swear words, we were triumphant!

Old fashioned oatmeal cookies are the bestest!!! I do make mine sans lard however 😉.... I also love to add an extra little pinch of really good flake sea or gray salt on the tops right when they first come out of the oven!! 💗

“Oh my gosh with the cuppa” 😂 I love it!!! Great job with the door. I love architectural salvage shops and I love old doors. So so much character- one of my faves are the 7 panel 3 across the top and bottom vertically with the 7th horizontally in the center. So lovely. I digress though, the cookies looked yummy and I laughed a bit watching you guys bake as it’s pretty similar to any kitchen experience with my 13 year old son.😂 Another great video! What’s your thought on Shiplap? I think some is great but perhaps it’s being overdone. I get board easily and like each room to have a feel of it’s own. Your thoughts please as I am considering adding some shiplap down. Hallway with my old oil paintings. I have headboard already in a den and a small hallway.
