A trick i used to use when I had the fan switch, i would use it as a half-jake position. For example, if high was too strong but medium was not strong enough, i would switch it to medium and flip the fan on. It would be just about perfect. I would also switch the fan on on before climbing a hill to get the temp down, then turn it off as i started to climb. It saves a bit of hp for a bit because the fan uses up 12 to 20 hp depending on the fan.
it's crazy how much horsepower that fan takes to run. Yes, cooling down the engine a bit before the hill always helps out. Safe driving my friend. All the very best, Cheers Rick
The so much important GAGE is your AIR, is it rising in time. Is it staying at proper AIR pressure. Thank you for going through everything. The OIL pressure, and AIR pressure are the most important. The problem is new Drivers are overwhelmed by all the GAGES. The OIL and AIR in my Humble opinion are most important.
I agree my friend. Yes, immediately check that oil pressure gauge after starting the vehicle. And of course you want air for brakes. The coolant is important. Especially when you’re pulling heavy and in the mountains. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hi Jen Reilly - And you are most welcome. We're happy to hear we could help out. If there is anything further we can do, drop us a note. Always happy to help. All the best, Cheers Rick
Just for clarity, what year and model is this truck? It’s similar to our 2018 T680, but naturally a different truck. Great to see you back behind the wheel. And the hill hold is actually a momentary switch that disables hill hold. Don’t know why, but it’s Paccar, so if they can put in a switch, they will.
Thanks Jake! The truck is a 2023 T800. Ya, I haven’t used the hill assist, so thank you for that information. Still not a believer of automatics. All the best, Cheers Rick
Hello sir. How are you ? Thanks for the cab display. There is just something about a manual transmission that outshines an automatic. All the best for you and your kids . 🙂
I would agree with you on the manual transmission my friend. I'm thinking I'm coming to Spain in the first week of June. Any chance we could meet up and shoot some videos my friend? Drop me an email: rick@smartdrivetest.com and we can sort out some details if that's an option. All the best, Cheers Rick
When you say you didn`t check the height of the trailer...you mean you did not get out of the truck but rather backed up and immediatly tried to connect the coupler. Is that what I am understanding? So this is where the driver could make the mistake? and cause the problem you just mentioned when coupling?
It should be required that people getting a normal license take a safety course about trucks before they can drive. Too many people have no respect for the size and capabilities of a truck. If I had to guess, I probably save at least 5 lives per week with safe driving practices and anticipating dangerous maneuvers of cars.

So my Kenworth has a gas station pump with three arrows pointing upwards. What is that for?
Where is the trailer lift button. ?Thank you
