    *_What is your experience with weighing your truck and being in compliance?_*
    In my years driving truck, I was seldom over the gross vehicle weight in either Canada or the United States. However, there were lots of times that I had to slide the trailer tandems, which was in the time before air pistons. And as I said in the video, I've never had to slide the fifth wheel plate, except to make room between the dollies and the mudflaps - always on shorter trailers. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Bridge law varies by state in the states. California is 40ft for example. WA wants the weight spread as far as possible. Good idea to look up bridge law in each state you go to.
    Something to help remember how to slide tandems to fix axle weight issue is slide the tandems the direction of the heavy end. Ie truck too heavy slide axles forward. Tandems too heavy slide tandems back.

    Tare weight , sometimes called unladen weight, is the weight of an empty vehicle or container.

    Tare weight is the weight of packaging without contents.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gammareign - thank you my friend for that information. And then the tare weight is subtracted for the overall gross weight to determine the weight of the goods. For trucking, it's "nice to know" information. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Most ppl know wat u r explaining, but ppl need to know the state rule of rear tandem.

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only states that I know of that have variations are Michigan and Texas. Tandem-tandem is a federal regulations and applies throughout the lower 48. Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick

    So whats the solution ?? You say “be in compliance” so what are you suppose to do ?? Drop the overweight load and call it an uber ? Or deny the load and prob get fired anyways ??🤔

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Most shippers are going to have experience loading trucks so these are in compliance. And some companies will have air gauges on the truck's suspension that will give you an idea of the vehicle's weight within 500 lbs. If you discover that the truck is overweight, you have to go back to the shipper and have them remove some of the freight. No, you're not going to "flat out" refuse the load. You're going to call dispatch and let them make the decision about what to do - that is if beyond what is reasonable when loading. Drop us a note if we can help further. Cheers Rick

    • @smartdrivetest

      @@OGkush69x - you are correct my friend. And this issue only comes up every now and again when hauling general freight. Metal, paper, liquid and carpet are going to be your heavy loads. Some produce, but not a lot. And if the company doesn't have a scale, there's usually one within 10 miles of the shipper. The company will pay for all your weights and re-weighs. All the best, Cheers Rick

    Diesel does not weigh 10 pounds per gallon. It weighs a bit less than 7 per gallon

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian JOnker - Thanks for that information. All the best, Cheers Rick

    • @rob379lqz
      @rob379lqz 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Are you sure Jonker?
      A U.S. gallon contains 3.8 liters. So a U.S. gallon of diesel fuel weighs aboot 7.1 lbs.
      An Imperial (Canadian) gallon contains 4.5 liters so an Imperial gallon of diesel fuel weighs aboot 8.5 lbs.
      just sayin’

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the great thing about social media - eventually we'll get to the precise answer. 🤓 The point of the whole thing is to make sure the fuel is full before you go and get loaded to the brim. Often dispatch will tell you that you're going to get loaded heavy, so you'll be forewarned to top up the fuel tanks. And the other factor to now consider is the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fuel) which might add another 100lbs or so. All the best, Cheers Rick
