I know some people found Kennan a bit annoying when Doug first had him on the main channel doing reviews, but truthfully I feel like I appreciate these reviews more now that I know how uncomfortable and unsure he seemed when he first started out.
Man, Kennan is absolutely killing it with the car selection this month! The perfect cars to be picked apart by his more technical approach. It's like DougCember but in October, we shall call it Kennantober!

I've always loved the clown shoe! Shooting brakes are great; too bad they are so rarely made. Watching this I kept thinking about one of my favorite quotes from Clarkson, when he drove the 1M: “Straight six in the front, manual gearbox in the middle and drive going to the rear. Page 1 Chapter 1 of the Petrosexual handbook”
I actually like the S52 over S54-no harsh rasp, less maintenance, and more usable power.

I absolutely love the Z3 M coupe. This is the kind of car I would buy... but then again the FF is my favorite Ferrari so that's saying something.
Maybe my top dream car, and the M variant 100% sealed it. The clown shoe’s a study both in avant-gardism *and* a free spirited “Idgaf what you think!” attitude. Just brilliant :)

Getting nerdy with Kennan!
Around the year 2000, one of my neighbours had one. It was new, but not an M-car/model. Most (most!) of the neighbours hated it, except a very small handful… including myself. What’s interesting is that nobody was neutral on it’s looks. Love it, hate it… with nobody in the middle. As I owned a CRX with it’s huge lift gate, I loved the design of this BMW since it’s launch. Thanks for the video.
I owned a 2001 M Coupe with the S54 engine for many years. Bought it cheap, years ago. As an E46 M3 owner, it always felt like a light weight M3 to me. I believe the Clownshoe weighed about 300 lbs lighter. Great car.
The S54 makes it even better!

This car was further improved the following year when they upgraded the engine to the s54 which made like 60 more hp

I daily a 2001 Z3 and it’s wonderful. Good tradeoff between quality comfort and fun
I've driven both the Shoe and the Z3M. They are both very fun cars and I'd take either version.
They are toss able and easily recover if the rear comes around. Plus the s52 is such a simple engine. I'd say it's got more torque in the low to mid range than an s54. If high revs and speeds are desired then an s54 is the way to go. But with the s54 be prepared to spend money maintaining the engine.

The 2001-02 M Coupe is like the M “sampler.” E36 chassis, E30 rear suspension, and E46 M3 engine. Not just a parts bin car, but a 3 generation car!
(And the S54 M Coupe is rare and valuable now).

I always liked the way these look. They reminded me of the MG coupes from way back when.
I used to scoff at these years but my god do I love them now.
I think it looks fantastic. As a former Z3 2.8 owner, I can tell you the 2.8 had plenty of power for this car. The S52 definitely has more than enough and is easier on maintenance than the more complex S54. I think it's a great choice.

Z3 was based on E30 underpinnings to keep cost down. Therefore it has E30 baseplate with narrow transmission tunnel. As M coupe is based on same platform it has same limitations as E30. Only option BMW had was to use 5-speed. It was simple cost saving and not protecting M3 why it has 5-speed. If there were space available they would have given it 6-speed to streamline production.
I never had anyone tell me they dislike mine! Though, its amazing how many people think its a newer car! lol

This is my favorite BMW. I think it looks amazing. My dad had a z3 when I was a kid and it was a great car
i think this thing looks cool as heck. one of the first 'hatchback/wagon/shooting brake?' to ever catch my eye.
My old man had one of these and I learnt to drive a stick in it. Fucking loved it. Now I’m almost 40 and I’m gonna buy one because I think they’re awesome.

Just an fyi @5:20, the z3m coupe and roadster share the same rear end and wheelbase. All z3s use trailing arm suspension like e30s... and e32 and e34 ect. It was the affordable option at the time before bmw introduced multilink irs with the e31 and z1. Main reason why they used trailing arms was because of cost cutting, but also because the z3 shares a LOT with the e36/5 also known as the 318ti hatchback. E36 front end and e30ish rear.
What the z3m has different from the regular trims is wider trailing reinforced arms for more offset to fit their wider wheels. Also they have diff cooling fins, with a real clutch based LSD.
Realistically the only difference between the roadster and coupe is the fact the coupe has added ridgidity due to the fact it has a roof.
S52 M Roadsters are still so affordable! I love mine and recommend every automotive enthusiast to drive one!
I hav always always like these. To me it was the best of both worlds. M series BMW and a hatch(super Honda fan). Great video

My BFF has one in the rarest color. It is absolutely 1 of the fastest and most fun to drive cars in his area because the roads have lots of twisties. 👍🏼

All time great car. Looks are subjective and I'm a huge sucker for the Z3M. One of the best engines, one of the best design languages, one of the best periods for build quality. Just... Don't get an automatic Z3 convertible thinking you're getting the same exprience.
Vastly different with an auto drop top.
This was my favorite BMW, I had a new one back in 2001. These were a much cheaper option than getting the M3 at the time.
Hey Kennan, as time goes by you bring more and more interesting automobiles. In this case,, The M coupe, had a lot of parallelism with the Ferrari FF when both cars were launched. both coupes, both with an unusual weird shape (which in my opinion is fantastic, sorry purists) unseen with that kind of sports cars. Well, a friend of mine had the second gen of this car and a 78 Porsche 911, the basic model, and guess what? he always told me that the Beemer was far more fun to drive than the 911, and perfect for a single guy daily driving. So whoever gets this I bet you he is going to have a shitload of fun. Well done. Much love as always from West Spain :-)

I always liked the Z3 styling much more than the Z4, which the latter seemed to have lines and curves for lines and curves sake.
And the Shoe was such a cool quirky version of the Z3.
Plus it had a cool resemblance to the Jaguar Hearse from the movie Harold and Maude.

I own S52 and S54 cars. S54 is a race engine, but the S52 really is a nice and most importantly BULLETPROOF engine.
I'd love to see the new version too (Z4 Touring)

Shout out to Washington State! If you're still in the state you owe it to yourself to take something that can take a turn through the mountain pass. Head through greenwater till you get to the other side of the range. Gorgeous and super satisfying.

The Z3, both the roadster and coupe, is one of the most beautiful cars ever made imo. I don’t get the clown shoe moniker at all.
Does listing your car include an option for also submitting it as a potential video candidate? I imagine 'Cars & Bids' could charge a nice premium if they also produce a detailed video to help promote the sale of your car !
No it’s doesn’t. We don’t want to charge for that. We like searching and looking for interesting vehicles. We always take suggestions and have a list going.
I’ve left a few jokes here and there ragging on Kennan, but ultimately I’m most excited for his videos and more importantly most excited to see Kennan videos a few years from now. I think Kennan is in a position to out Doug Doug. Kennan gives me the feel of an old dorky Doug video better than modern Doug. Once he feels out his style and starts taking more risks with the presentation, it will be a great era in car review TH-cam.
For comparison Alanis is great but she’s already got her own style, pretty distinct from Doug. I feel like she could have her own totally unrelated channel and do fine. Kennan is the perfect guy to serve the quirks and features.

Stiff is an understatement of epic proportions. If you place a quarter on a track / flat road, you can feel when you drive over it. Only a handful of production vehicles could or can achieve this from the dealership floor to date.
I miss my S54 with dinan exhaust. It would be able to launch the most incredible burn outs.
