While I like the looks of the XM5’s better I need something that will hold up and the differences in my opinion are minimal. Bought a pair of XM4s in mid-2021 - I can easily say that my sanity during daily commutes and whenever I need some peace and quiet even at work or home. Have been hanging onto these so much, that it has practically become a part of me as of late.
Had the option to get a pair of XM5s, but I went with the xm4 because of it being an absolute beast. Xm5s feel clumsy and the hinge issues are just bad.

Nice re-review! Super glad to hear these sound good with Orchestral and Classical music, as I listen to a ton of it. The separation and wide sound stage is super important, when it comes to this kind of music imo. I suspect this will carry over into Jazz and other well recorded music. Especially glad to hear because these just dropped down to $199 for Black Friday Weekend. I bet we'll see more deals before X-mas and on Cyber Monday-week as well. I snatched them up because I have both a Sony DAP and Android for LDAC codec compatibility. Can't wait to get ahold of them and see how they handle both wired DAP and wireless Android use. Get yours while you can! I had been hearing these are pretty average sound quality wise, with some people were reporting muddy bass so I didn't really want these, until I found out that Android users benefit quite a bit from the LDAC codec. Many people are reporting these SQ improves pretty dramatically when using LDAC over AAC or other Codecs. Being able to get decent SQ via my DAP and Android is just too good to pass up! I was dead set on NOT buying these and just using my below average ear buds for another year but all these factors pretty much sealed the deal for me! Cheers!
I have the XM2 and they seem like the noise cancelling is not working like it used too. I've been on the fence about upgrading since the headphones still work but they are mini usb and don't like many of the wires i use. Didn't want to spend 349 though. I was hoping the XM4s would have been 200 or less by now.

@ Could you elaborate about the sound quality? I’ve heard mixed reviews regarding Bose QC’s sound quality and it’s kinda what I’m most concerned about. Anyway thanks for the help!
@masterpeer1116 For sure! First off, and to be clear, both the Bose QC's and Sony XM4 headphones sound very good, and I don't think you can go wrong picking either headphones. After checking some of our new testing data, specifically the Multi-Dimensional Audio Quality Scores (MDAQS), it does seem that most people would prefer the default sound of the Bose QC Headphones over the Sony XM4 headphones (Bose = 4.8/5, Sony = 4/5). The Bose QC Headphones also have a frequency response that measure very closely to our industry-validated preference curve, which is a measurement of what we think sounds good to most people. I've also used the headphones personally, and I quite enjoyed them: just enough bass for my ears, and enough volume treble as well. But again, that's to my ears. Full charts are also available on our website. However, the Sony XM4 headphones do have one trick up its sleeve: it's much easier to adjust the sound to your specific preference. This is because the Sony Sound Connect App has a five-band EQ + Find My EQ quiz that you can use to customize the headphones. Bose does have an EQ, but it's a very simple 3-band EQ that doesn't indicate exactly what frequencies/ranges are being adjusted. TL;DR: I think the Bose is a great choice for people who don't really want to tinker with the sound; you'll likely enjoy it by default. The Sony's still sound very good, though depending on your preferences, you might need to do some tweaking in the app. For more detailed info, including full test results, check out our full reviews on our website OR on our TH-cam channel. :) Hope this helps. i literally bought one of these yesterday and am listening to this on the XM4 rn, i love the fit, but the noise cancellation is is a bit disorienting and is uncomfortable for me, but, lets see, maybe i'll get used it ig
Mine had a structural fail at the left hinge after 2 years, right after the warranty expired. The hinge cracked and when moisture gets inside the ear cup (on foggy days or very hot days when I sweat more) the noise cancelling mics try to noise cancel some ghost sounds leading to ear bleeding beeping sounds. The volume of the beep is louder than the max volume of the headsets, you can hear it from across the room, it is awful. I just use them without the noise cancelling now and wait for them to die to buy some Sennheisers. I think that"s why they got rid of the folding hinge. Until this fail though the noise cancelling was amazing, the sound was a bit to bass heavy for the music i like, but i bought them for the NC, so until they broke i had no complaints.
The hinge breaking is a common issue with newer Sony headphones, this includes the xm4, xm5, ULT and more. This is also not covered by Sony's warranty because it counts as physical damage and not a design flaw. (Some people their hinge broke within a year, so reviews really should mention it)
@@appleua4807 I don't know why no one mentions it. The replacement isn't a walk in the park either. What is clear to me though is that Sony knows about the problem very well and I think that's why they made the XM5's not fold anymore. It's a shame to make headphones this expensive so sensitive.

Are you using Android? I'm hearing that if you don't wire in from a good source or don't the LDAC Bluetooth codec, it sounds muddy and very average. However using the LDAC codec unlocks the true potential of these cans when used wirelessly via Bluetooth. Apple users should stay away from this. Same with anyone forced to use AAC codec from their BT source. Windows users also report fairly bad sound unless you use AutoEq. Really these seem to only be good for Android users and those with a good DAP. LDAC is the reason why. It's far superior to the other BT codecs. You can unlock this codex, by getting into the dev tools in settings and switching it off the lower quality generic codec and also adjusting the bitrate to match the source bitrate so there is no upscaling or downscaling losses.
@@Danhashiel Because it's not for everyone. I heard the same from many people but it appears that Android users can really benefit from using the LDAC codec. Because I use Android I went ahead and bought them as they are on deep discount now. I was able to unlock the Dev tools in settings and from there I can switch BT codecs and bitrates, ect to match the source bitrate so there is no down or upscaling to ruin SQ. I just bought them so will report on how they sound after testing!
I bought these recently and cant see the hype. i feel like im underwater even with the transparency mode on. I also bought some hd560s and those sound amazing
Fair enough. At least Sony was able to improve transparency mode on the XM5's. Also, nice choice with the HD560s! Glad you're enjoying them. Happy listening!

@@appleua4807 I don't know why no one mentions it. The replacement isn't a walk in the park either. What is clear to me though is that Sony knows about the problem very well and I think that's why they made the XM5's not fold anymore. It's a shame to make headphones this expensive so sensitive.
Mine broke and sony wanted £100 to repair. Purchased the small part in ebay for £10 and fixed in 10 minutes with TH-cam tutorial video. @@anisoootropic
I bought them today for 100 dollars
From marketplace
Didn’t cone with case but they are really amazing
£200 in UK last week as i purchased one . So it's a worthy purchase if you don't like design or non fold capability of x5.
Happy to hear you were able to snag a pair for a good price. Happy listening!
I love them but out of the box i think the sound is weird.
Without EQ i wouldn’t keep them. But with the right settings they sound beautiful.
Got them 1 month ago btw
Buy this or momentum 4?
are they good to use on computer for gaming/music? Is there a latency/bad sound when wired?
Idk whether to buy them or not. I use earphones 20% outside and 80% home... so i think I should have two pairs?
They are currently $200 on Best Buy today only!
Still using the XM3s for 6 years now on a daily basis
About to order mine for £150 (+ £50 voucher)! Looks like it's a steal price??
My steal price was even better.£128.should be here in a few days 😁
I bought them yesterday for $173 :)
Currently £178 on Amazon.
I got them new from Amazon for 130. I got two pairs for my kids.
Be warn over time they will emit a very loud almost deafning noise.its a real problem it has to fo with the anc .if i knew that i would have got a diffrent headphone
i just bought them 15mins ago in best buy. finally got them on sale. so happy on this purchase. can finally give away my jbl lol
just bought them refurbished for 170
At MSRP I'll say it's the best value. I got the XM5 for $299 and I find it better at that price .
Definitely still cheaper than the XM5, for sure. But those Black Friday deals are pretty spicy. :) Happy listening!
I'm here trying to decide between the ULT and XM4 having a hard time xD
watching this w my midnight blue xm4s 😊🙏
They're on sale for $130! 😮
I just got this today for €134...and after seeing this review i guess i couldn't argue with it.
XM5 are more elegant but by experience they last less and if you sneeze they pause…most annoying!!
Sound effects for every single cut is certainly a choice.
It’s time to buy XM3, still the best sound quality headphones from Sony.
I might be getting them, upgrading from some old JBL buds😋
might just be picking up some new ones for $175, much appreciated 🙏🙏
On Amazon right now for 129.99
i got these for $160 using prime day & a gift card
Wtf how
Damn for 160$ is cazy
Yep
just got these today for 129.99 on amazon 🥳
i just got em for $140
I just got mine today at the airport for $250
Fail, you cannot charge and use them at the same time.
That's a good thing. That's how you ruin batteries
Huh? So it's a good thing I can't charge them when I want to use them, what a weird comments.
@ibrenecario7357 same goes for cell phones. Your not "supposed" to use them while they are charging because it can drastically decrease your overall battery life causing them to die quicker and quicker over time. My comment wasn't weird you just have an issue comprehending 🙂
@@YunG0blivi0us Its not a good thing. There is nothing to comprehend, you just made a stupid comment. So how much of a headset batterie will be ruined if I charge headset while using the headset?
@ibrenecario7357 you'd be surprised bro. What are you 12 years old? You must not know very much about electronics
Got these for £148 brand new.
They’re $130 on Amazon rn lol
I just bought them used for €70 ik its kinda gross but you can remove and wash the pads😭
Replace the pads,why wash
@@NithinGigi I just don't know if I can find any original tbh I know nothing about headphones but doesn't the quality of the earpads matter for the sound
I hate the sound quality, everything else about them are pretty good
Really? Why
I want to buy them
Yh the sound quality is not crisp. Also my ears get hot after 20 minutes of use and gets uncomfortable
@@Danhashiel Wouldn't recommend, sounds quality isn't as crispy and sharp as i would like. Also it's heavy on the head and ears get hot after a while. I'm looking at buying Sony Pule Elite headphones as reviews are way better
I just bought it today for £210
Niceeeeee! Happy listening! -Harley
$129 today now on Amazon & Target!!
I got at 150
This comment section is filled with bots cuz wtf😂
I bought these recently and cant see the hype. i feel like im underwater even with the transparency mode on. I also bought some hd560s and those sound amazing
Fair enough. At least Sony was able to improve transparency mode on the XM5's. Also, nice choice with the HD560s! Glad you're enjoying them. Happy listening!
.
watching this w my midnight blue xm4s 😊🙏
Got these for £148 brand new.
