True. My beagle ate my XM4 yesterday after just 2 years of ownership. Planning to get XM5 now. I was thinking of QC Ultra but the mic quality seems to be really bad
Was not happy with the fit, as the drivers sit slightly upon my outer ear causing significant discomfort depending upon the angle. Slight shifts can make it acceptable or completely unwearable. Sound quality was not a significant step up, even over the XM2! EQ is a must to get them in the acceptable zone. Even then, I found them lacking. Pretty big disappointment as I had been using the XM2's for several years. However, break-in time might have been a factor here. Did not keep them for long. Also they do not fold up for easy storage anymore. Argh! Just ordered a set of PX8's... hoping for good things.
XM5s are great but the ANC isn’t very good imo. The XM4s are way better, only because you can’t adjust the strength of the noise cancelling on the xm5. The auto adjust constantly misses the mark . I was very disappointed when I got mine. The reason I’m watching this review now is because I’m looking for a solution to this issue. ANC on this is great…when it works which is very seldom
I tried.. I've been using the XM5's for about 8 months and I hate them. I have had a lot of bluetooth headphones over the years and I have never hated a pair before. I've been disappointed in others, but these things are garbage. And the issue is 100% the firmware. I work in a noisy environment, hence noise cancelling headphones. But some genius at Sony decided that if there is an ambient noise, well you just better shut off the noise cancelling and have that noise blasted into your ear holes. Yes, I know... There is a setting in the app to turn that off. And it works until tomorrow when the app resets its settings. The headphones just randomly switch to ambient sound for no reason. If I wanted to listen to the ambient sound I can do that very easy. Just not put on the headphones. But I'm weird and like to listen to music instead of the heavy machinery running at my job. Zero common sense on this one.
So if u do not recommend xm5 then what would be the best headphones or earbuds for your scenario I mean I’m considering to buy these headphones so according to your review I’m thinking about holding them off and trying to think from your point of view so recommend me any audio type one and I would be glad to get suggested 😊
no idea why people rate these so high... prob bc they heard it from someone else. These don't sound that good, they are super expensive and the app is complete garbage.
It depends which headphones you are comparing the XM5s to. Compared to other bluetooth headphones they are good and I prefer their tuning to the XM4s. Do they sound better than my $180 pair of Meze 99 Noir? No. To your point, anyone who cares about high quality audio is not looking for it over a pair of bluetooth headphones; wired beats wireless any day.
I'll just add that people spending thousands of dollars in the hopes of streaming at cd quality is fn insane. Go to target buy a portable CD player and 20 CDs and call it a day. Bluetooth will not sound like a CD no matter what.

The ergonomic of the Sony XM5 is a very, very bad joke. Do you want to feel a kick-ass headphone ergonomic? Try Bose Quitecomfort. It is in a different dimension.
Thanks for your comment. I hear loads of people say that the Bose, B&W, focal are just so superior sounds. I have not tried them. But I just use the xm5 with modified equaliser into an iphone 12 and then either spotify at max or tidal. I cant tell the difference between these two at this level and all I can say is that the Sony sounds superb, almost in every way. I can listen for hours, no harshness, decent tight bass, clear highs, I can hear guitar tracks in the background with the brush of the strokes. And I have a degree in Music and am a musician who did his own album and always been annul about detail. So, now I am seriously begining to doubt myself and say that maybe I cant hear shit and musci can sound way better than this but I havent leaped to that level so I dont know. Could I be correct here, or are the sony’ s a very nice sounding headphone but just not high end? Thanks for your time anyone
These were some of the most uncomfortable headphones I've worn. My ears immediately got hot and the small headband creates a hotspot that you can feel digging in your head. And that all in a very fragile feeling package. Audio was just 'okay', but it's hard to focus on audio when your ears are getting cooked and you can feel them pressing on the inner part because they're so shallow. These are very notorious for breaking at the hinges too. I can't believe all the rave reviews about this headphone, I've never been so disappointed in something I bought. Returned them after 1 day.

90% of phones in western world are Samsung, Google pixel or iphones, n none of these support aptx codecs

I sometimes sleep with my mx5 and atr almost a year old and are just fine
