I don't know how many times I've listened to this. Several hundred I'm sure. And I've even seen this video once before. But listening to it now just gave me chills. The beauty of this piece of music is only exceeded by awaken. 7 years on now I am still saddened by the loss of Chris, and now more recently Alan White. I am glad I got to see them all together several times. The memories of them are priceless.

They are real musicians, artists. They worked hard to master their craft and created a wonderful unique sound. Major shout out to Steve Howe. He didn't aspire to have a les paul or telecaster and be like every other rock guitarist . He was too good, too creative and didn't allow himself to develop a rock star ego. He approached the role of the guitar as just another instrument in the compositions, many of which he wrote.
As far as Yes, the band, Though they were hugely popular, the term "rock stars" is below them.

Love your content .... This song… This slightly extended version is one of my favorites. It is wonderful to see you have the reactions that I had many years ago as many people dead hearing for the first time years ago. I started seeing Yes concerts since around 1973, I was lucky to have a sister who is an incredible bass player who could outplay just about any bassist I have seen.… Many years ago Stanley Clarke said to my sister that she was incredible, but that's another story. I've been to every Yes concert in the New York City/ Nassau area since 1973. And now so many years later and unfortunately losing many people I still go to see Jon Anderson play. Sometimes I get a few moments to talk to him and his wife after the show and just remind him how lucky we are to have him set our ears free, and thank his wife for keeping love alive. I love this song so much that I had it inscribed inside our wedding bands. Please keep up the posts and keep bringing us great Yes music, there are so many hidden gems of music from yes and even some songs that Yes covered

Still my favorite YES song even after fifty plus years!of course there are about another 25 that are a close second.I saw them at their pinnacle with their classic 5 back in 1979. Still my favorite concert ever even if it took 2 days to gain back all my hearing.😊. I have seen them a few times later after Jon and Rick departed though entertaining not quite the same feeling.Pope your reaction is very similar to the way I have reacted to this song many times in the past. Wow, I think I saw that performance, and at a most meaningful time in our nation's life. I saw them, with orchestra, at Radio City Music Hall, in Manhattan, on 9/9/01...just a few hours before 9/11/01 happened and changed the world...and causing me to be stuck there for weeks on end, island closed off. And they were angels indeed, and, as you saw, pushed out loving energy, called baraka, and it was returned, because I was one of the ones returning it. It was a cosmic concurrence. It was the crashing through Gates Of Delirium...G.O.D. And it played out for reals, right before our eyes, only hours later.
As an intuitive empathic kinda guy I was wary to go there in the first place, intuition screaming BAD IDEA! So I brought the I Ching with me, which proved invaluable in keeping my cool, and helping others keep their cool. I think I was meant to go there. I live in Charlotte. The I Ching was a changing situation which was described in a nutshell as "Removal of Decay" and "Duration". The duration bit let me know it was going to be a long journey, so adjust the mind accordingly. The first part wound up having lots of meaning, but it counseled me to "tranquilize the spirit of the people" which I did, and Yes did, and so Manhattan was cool. It was the rest of the country that went apeshit.
Sorry to be so longwinded, but this was a red-letter performance. This was the prelude to G.O.D.
There is a great video of this tour, taken in Amsterdam, which is wondrous and worth the watch, times a thousand. I don't think that was from that tour. I think it was NYC. I was in the balcony, and feared falling over the railing. It was exuberance itself. They STARTED with Close to the Edge, then most of their long masterpieces. Everywhere, the orchestra was part of the experience, and are fun to watch. The cymbal player from Amsterdam was particularly cool, and a clarinetist. You'll see. From that concert, G.O.D. and Roundabout are particularly fun, and in the latter, the orchestra ladies join the band and dance on stage. Have a great year! Pardonez les typos.

They are angelic taking the form of human and decided that they were going to give other humans a tour through this world to the Heaven.....and they believe everyone born with a soul is from Heaven doing it's learning here on Earth and will soon return to the Father God the Creator of souls....so now we are all learning about life and other things ......and helping some one is giving them their "Wings!" Excellent choice for the new year. I've seen them live many times. As a musician, I can appreciate the skill level required to write these songs. On the DVD you can select watching the band or some animation sequences. I hope you have heard the original, on the Close to the Edge recording, I think it sounds more cohesive.

Yes with this orchestra does Ritual on this DVD. They stretch it out to about 27 minutes, and it's amazing. If Yes does a 50th anniversary tour of Topographic Oceans next winter, they better have this orchestra with them if Anderson and Wakeman aren't there. I've seen Yes at least once on every tour Anderson was with them since 1977, and this tour was the best one for me. 2nd best concert I was ever at. The 1987 Rush tour is extremely hard to beat.

Jon Anderson just never gives us a vocal performance anything less than magnificent. How about a Jon & Vangelis new year. So many great songs to choose from. Wisdom Chain, Change We Must, and He Is Sailing are 3 great examples, but, seriously, anything would be amazing.

🧨🧨🧨🧯I hear Bro....on last Friday a powerful Storm came in here In Orangevale, California brought Floods and Blackouts all over Northern California. My Backyard in my place had so much water it looked like Lake Erie!!!! My Neighbor and I was out there with shovels building ditches and levees and trenches....shoveling water on the high ground 24/7!!!!! Then on New Year's Eve at 10:35 pm the Rain and winds just stopped.....and at 12:03am the Neighbor celebrated with lots of Fireworks that lasted an hour.....On New Year's Day .....Bright and Sunny!!!! Hahahahaha......lol.....hahahaha....which was bringing the New Year in with Sunshine!!!!! Happy New Year Bro!!!!! 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆🎆

If it is difficult to pick anything: try something from the "Hot Rats" album: mostly instrumental jazzfusion, but definitely progressive, although from the 60s - or start from the other end, his son Dweezil (Zappa plays Zappa) is playing Frank's music excellently today: test "Zomby Woof" live video!
Steve Howe is the master of the steel slide guitar,it is the same instrument he uses at the end of Gates of Delerium,they do that song in this same concert with the orchestra........

Steve Howe must be one of the greatest guitarists ever. Have you ever seen any other musician play 3 or 4 different guitars in one single song? I don't think there are any.
