I cannot believe his voice is still so good. Nearly every other singer I grew up loving has understandably lost vocal range and power but Jon seems immune to age.
YES's "Symphonic Live" is the perfect concert! Among them, "ritual" and "the gates of delirium" are the best performances in the history of YES live! Please review it!
@@dandecastro51 The yesshows version of "gates" is also good. The symphonic live version is orchestrally arranged, so I have the impression that the middle part is calmed down in a bad way. However, I feel that the beauty of "Soon" is best in this version.
A real Gem from this video is "The Ritual". They play it perfectly, and you get to see how all of them play on the drum solo. As long as you are here, you need to see it. Amazing for sound quality and great video.
Saw this TOUR and was LIFTED into the HEAVENS by the sonic fullness of the orchestra . The Symphony was perfect throughout!!! Not a fan of the animation but the concert with the LA Philharmonic was one of the most exhilarating emotionally uplifting listening experiences EVER!!! Tears flowed like rain from me under a full moon at the beautiful outdoor amphitheater. YOU MUST SEE! Jon Anderson singing Awaken w/ Todmobile Orchestra
As someone else has suggest, you must see John do 'Awaken' with the Todmobile Orchestra. I'm uncertain of John's beliefs but he does aim at uplifting spirits and positive thinking. His word play while at time does not make sense, but still it touches something within us.
This tour with the orchestra was in support of their album _Magnification_ released on the unfortunate date of Sept. 11, 2001. Which didn't help with record sales, as you can well imagine. But it was a fantastic album, especially coming this late in their careers. It was recorded with a full symphony orchestra and I have never seen (or heard) a better melding of orchestra and band. The orchestra were actually part of the band and each of the compositions were totally integrated between both the band and the orchestra. Perhaps you will one day do a reaction to the album?
@@shyshift I stand corrected then. Either way, it definitely hurt record sales, not just for Yes but anyone else who had an album scheduled for release on that infamous date.
Like many have said the album was released on December 4th, due to 9/11. Another thing that hurt the record sales was that the Beyond Music label went out of business a month after it was released in the US, just like what happened with the Talk album and Victory music label.
I forgot to add this before JP, I hope you now can see the Joy of watching The Prog Greats Live !!! Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Gentle Giant, ELP, Pink Floyd/Gilmore, Steve Hackett etc !! : D
We traveled to Sydney, Australia especially just to see them in concert during the early 2000’s, approximately. Admittedly we were both a little worried whether they’d still be able to recreate the same sounds as when the album was first released 30 (50 now) odd years ago back then. Especially whether Jon’s voice would still be able to reach those especially high notes of his. We shouldn’t have worried at all, everyone of them pulled off an absolutely ‘mind blowing’ concert. Absolute perfection. Our dream had come true, as we thought we’d never catch them live. Floated out of the Concert Hall? Maybe Stadium, totally naturally high as kites. Didn’t come back down for at least a week! All original lineup as well. Heaven. The icing on the cake was the ‘cd’, (no albums back then), signing the following day. All the members were there I think? Jon was super friendly, Chris was absolutely unbelievably warm, super lovely and what a talker, Rick had a great long conversation with us as well, funny, funny lovely man also. Both so giving and warm spirited. (Was absolutely gutted when Chris passed away. No one plays the bass like Chris and he and Jon harmonized beautifully. Such a sad, sad loss) No airs or graces from any of them. From memory now I don’t think Steve Howe was there though. Maybe wrong as I was so star struck. We also visited an exhibition by Roger Dean the following day who we also had the pleasure of meeting and he offered us photos galore. I’m an artist so that was an especially precious moment for me personally. Sorry about all the name dropping but truly it was one of the highlights of our lives being our favourite band. We courted to YES (and early Genesis :) you see. Happy days. Thanks Justin, that was just a wonderful treat. 🙏
Jon is the only guy that can get away with saying "Love...is so wonderfully beautifully amazingly wonderful.." Lol... With a voice like that, with music like that, Mr. Anderson can be as precious as he likes.
So beautiful. I got emotional watching that, especially with the orchestra. The crazy thing is how young some of the orchestra members were to be playing a song from decades earlier. This experience likely turned them all into Yes fans. Your reactions are always excellent.
Sat in my English garden, a sunny day at last, then come in at 6.00pm and find this on JP's channel,..I've heard this thousands of times, but it's nice to listen along with others from all walks of life..what a fabulous version.

I agree with your statement, the most positive creative band I have ever known. The reason their name is YES not NO or MAYBE but YES. Affirmation... positive and always lifting even in a spiritual manner. My favorite bands since 1980s high school years were/are YES and Rush.
And you and I, and Ritual... on this show, may be the best versions ever. Big thing, cuz there are so so so many good performances, esp and you and I (I can think of 2 dozen recordings I've heard).
Even after watching this hundreds of times, I still can't keep a straight face. Every time I hear Squire come up with his harmonica lines, I just melt. I needed this. Thank you! P.S. You should put "Magnification" on your list. The studio album that led to this tour, with a full symphony orchestra doing the keyboard parts.
Im 60 years old and enjoy it this song, like you now, every time i ear it from my 15!!! And You And I its a magical song. Its atemporal music as a lot of yes songs.

Bravo! Bravo! Justin!! Did you notice the standing ovation from the crowd? In every Yes concert I have ever attended...And You and I gets a standing ovation. Side story...on the Symphonic Tour Yes was not doing any shows in Florida. Soooo I connected with a friend who lived in Northern Illinois. Made a deal with him...he gets tickets to a Brewers baseball game and I'll get Yes tickets for the show at the Pabst theater in Milwaukee. So I flew up to Milwaukee and got to see a baseball game and a fantastic Yes show!!! Oh and it was my friend's first time seeing Yes in concert...He was ecstatic. Great appreciation to his wife for letting me take him out for fun fun fun all weekend long. Thanks Justin!!!
I loved this! In 2001 Yes recorded their only album as a 4-pc and WITHOUT a keyboardist, instead having a full orchestra. This amazing album is called Magnification. Check it out - you won’t regret it!!!
what you were saying about how YES always lifts your spirit ....... this is exactly WHY they named themselves YES .... because it is such a positive word .... and that their music is about the message and not the members .... Jon has said n interviews that the band YES should carry on for years to come with all new members as long as the message stays the same
Yes are on the top shelf of prog rock. Their music is so emotional, beautiful, uplifting and positive. As I have said before they are masters in the studio but on stage they are wizards and really can elevate already fantastic songs to new heights. I have known this since 1973 with YesSongs what a live album set even with no video and less than perfect recording technology back then. But what an experience that live set is. And many Yes fans are over 60 now so they need to sit! Thank you for this reaction and do more Yes live stuff. YES please!
This version of the video is with the 3D animations. On the DVD you could choose either the animations or the live performance. I always prefered the live…
How nice to see you add the new dimension of a live in concert reaction, and to my favorite Yes song. All I can say is “Yes! More of this, please!” The most iconic progressive rock songs deserve revisiting because we know, while first listen reactions are fun, it’s the repeated listens/viewings that make music become ingrained in our memoriy. Way to go, Justin!
Glad to see you are doing live performance reactions! And you and I live is always a show stopper but this one is particularly special like you said. Please do Close to the Edge from the Yessongs movie, it is truely mesmerizing!
i watched this whole live concert which is uploaded on youtube and it really is incredible. The tour was for Magnification album which is one of my absolute favorite late Yes albums and was the last to feature Jon Anderson 👍
Thank you very much, with this wonderful video maybe I will finally succeed in getting my wife into linking Yes or at least appreciate what they are doing. This was amazing.
You get it. You understand Yes. Enlightenment is, I think, Jon Anderson's whole reason for being. He's been on that journey and the band allowed him to help share his passion; love.
It's hard keeping track of the Yes keyboardists, but I believe that the keyboardist at these concerts is Tom Brislin, who is now the keyboardist in Kansas. This was a fantastic concert, but the actual Magnification album was actually recorded without having a keyboardist as a member of Yes.
This is such a great video. Symphonic Gates of Delirium is also excellent but I can only find it in three video parts. Maybe you would have better luck but the orchestra lends such depth to the piece. Thanks for doing this, JP.
Magical! Thank you for reacting to this piece of heaven. I have seen Yes perform this live many times and heard the studio version countless times and it is always uplifting. The hippies were right. I may be a snob, but I think that people who "get" Yes are somehow blessed.
Brought back memories of seeing Yes live during their Fly From Here tour in 2011. It was a marvel seeing Howe play three guitars - I think he had the electric strapped to him during the entire song. They had a Canadian singer, who sounded just like Jon, and Rick Wakeman's son Oliver played just like his dad! It was also a real privilege to have a balcony seat close to the living legend Chris Squire, with his Rickenbacker and pedalboard.
Nice to see this one. I saw this tour, and the whole show was terrific. Tom Brislin can be found playing with Kansas these days. He's a big part of the writing of their last album.
The Yes Symphonic Live DVD is the best recording Yes ever released. Those animated visuals are an option on the DVD. When you watch the DVD you can see just the performance.
Hi Justin. Thank you for this splendid reaction. I saw YES on that tour 2 days before this was filmed. Unfortunately they didn't played Gates Of Delirium at the concert that I was attending, because Gates was to demanding to perform for Anderson (he probably wanted to save his energy for the filming two days later). It was nevertheless an unworldly experience. At least I saw them playing Ritual, where the beast Chris Squire was let loose. I will never forget that night.
You should watch and listen to Roundabout from this concert. It is the happiest performance of a Yes song, of any song, I have seen. I play it regularly for a good feel moment.
Symphonic and 9012Live are my favourite Yes dvds. On the dvd release of this, there was an option to switch the animations off. I regard this period of the band their Indian summer. I was lucky enough to catch them on this tour at the Glasgow Armadillo and consider it to be the best gig I've went too. Afterwards, I was lucky enough to meet them and have my Magnification cd autographed.
That concert must have been magnificent! I knew nothing of it at the time! Why did no-one tell me back in 2001? What a perfect mesh of band and orchestra. God, I would have loved to have seen that! Nearly forgot: Like you, Justin, I raised an eyebrow at the part with the harmonica! I did not expect that! I don't think I can remember hearing a harmonica in the studio version, but I'll have a listen!
Since my personal introduction to Yes was with most people, the song "Roundabout" but it was the shortened single edit for radio play when I was 12. A few years later, a friend introduced me to this fantastic album, 'Close to the Edge' in late 1974 by this new band, Yes. Like much music back then, I had no idea they were the same band who played the one song that I was familiar with. "And You And I" was the tune that initially garnered my attention. Jon's vocals captured my heart! So much so that I decided I would name my first son after him, whenever that would be. Yes is my second favorite band. Their music remains gorgeous after all these decades! I just hope Steve Howe changes his mind and Jon joins Yes again for at least one more album. 💜💜
Jp, their music does lift your spirits, doesn't it? They never fail to do that for me.. they're the prog equivalent of earth, wind and fire to me. A little harder to dance to but always positive and life affirming
From the moment I discovered Yes at age 14, it became the soundtrack of my life. Always there when I needed them. As you say, the positive vibe I get from their music is so intense it is hard for me to understand others don't see it that way. I play some Yes almost on a daily basis and I never get tired of it.
ASTONISHING. BEAUTIFUL. WONDERFUL. Thank you so much for this video reaction, Justin. I've never before seen or heard this symphonic live version of And You and I. You are right in that the music is uplifting. It is always positive and gives hope. The graphics were a little annoying but there wasn't too much of it. Art directors think they know best, but we just want to see the band play. Great stuff, Justin. And thanks again. (Oh, by the way, I've found peace with your not being too keen on Wakeman's twiddly synthesiser parts on Heart of the Sunrise😂). Best wishes from a sunny England today.
💯% I've seen Yes live at least 10 times, both with Wakeman and without, with Howe and without, and with Anderson and without. Yet, I somehow missed this tour and have never watched videos of it, nor haver ever listened to Magnification. Perhaps (And) You and I can discover this particular journey of Yes together, nu?
Thanks for this video. I will dig out this DVD again for sure. There was a setting on it where you could get rid of those animated visuals and just play the concert so I'd never seen them before because I just wanted to see the band. Hopefully, you can watch the whole concert--not necessarily for a reaction--but just to enjoy. Having seen them live many, many times (too many to count), in AYAI, during those soaring moments, the whole crowd used to stand up (I'd call it a whoosh moment where they were compelled to rise) and start clapping and not stop until the end. I think you know the parts I mean. I saw them on this tour twice --Mass and CT. Each city they would visit, they would feature a local orchestra behind them. I think you will get a kick out of watching Tom Brislin play keyboards on this video (he's with Kansas now).
This was in support of their Magnification album. The whole Close to the Edge album is a masterpiece. I love how when Chris plays the harmonica his hands are so big that you can't even see it. This was a great performance. Chris started to accent Jon's vocals with the harmonica during the Relayer tour in 1974/1975.
I saw this concert in high school and still remember every moment like it was yesterday! I think either Crave or Prime has the whole show I strongly suggest checking it out!
I saw them on this tour, the weekend before Sept. 11th 2001 at Radio City Music Hall. It was such a wonderful weekend in the NYC before the whole world changed. I miss those days. I think it was my third Yes concert and probably the best one I've seen yet. They played Gates of Delerium, Close to the Edge and Ritual among other classics. Such a perfect setlist to play with the orchestra. Tom Brislin did an amazing job considering the difficult parts he had to learn on such short notice. They played Radio City Music Hall the weekend before Sept. 11th 2001.
I have the DVD of this concert and it's terrific! It was made not long after the release of their album "Magnification," which has a backing symphony orchestra and is one of their best albums. You should definitely react to the title song, which they've included on their best of albums. Yes made quite a few great songs in their later career, before Jon Anderson left for good. "Mind Drive" and "That, That Is" are long, awesome songs from late in their career, among others. You'll love the song "Magnification."
This tour was Wonderful! The symphony allows them to bring such Big Sound with the intricacies just filling the venue! Any YES they are big on being Perfect! So your Experience is heartfelt and moving! You leave the show High! On the Music and your body feels the effects for a few days after(and no drug effects😉) Seeing them live >47x has definitely Been impressionable on my life! Yes music Rocks!!!!❤️
Justin, I don't know if you had the opportunity to see this complete show, if you didn't see it, it's worth it, it's one of the best performances of Yes live.
And again, I have been transformed. When I had cancer, it was greatly the spirit, lift, and love of Yes that helped me through. God bless life.
I hope you're doing better and well today Frankin :)

Such a unique voice! It captured me the first time I listened to YES
I saw this tour at a winery in Washington State. Outside with a symphony is a great way to hear YES! 20 yrs ago it was.
YES!!!!~ Thanks for Holiday treat Justin Hard to see and hear Squire and realize he has left us .. but with lasting gifts
When they were at their best.. Best live band I've ever seen and I've seen a lot
this was 2001, still at their best
@@martinreed5964 yup. Saw them 2 times that tour
Saw this tour in 2001 in Columbus, OH. Amazing and got to meet Jon and Chris after the show. Major highlight for this YES fan.
What an amazing performance - sublime.
You got it JP.....love , light and Peace to you 💛
I was at the concert. One of those events I'll never forget
Yes…great music for our souls
Man this song is good. Love it . Yes and Jethro Tull my two favourite bands always.
best live version ever!!!!
They're unbelievably great!
YES,thank-you for being the Relayer of a great Mood For a Day! More live performances please, theres alot of gold like this out there! Peace.
I was fortunate enough to see this tour, it don’t get much better.
Justin check out the encores on this video for a nice surprise. The band loved it during Roundabout!
Nice reaction. From the same concert check: In the presence of. Amazing song. Thx. 💪
Great review! This is probably Yes' best 'feel good' song, and it fits so well in an orchestral setting.
💯%
I've seen Yes live at least 10 times, both with Wakeman and without, with Howe and without, and with Anderson and without. Yet, I somehow missed this tour and have never watched videos of it, nor haver ever listened to Magnification.
Perhaps (And) You and I can discover this particular journey of Yes together, nu?
Thanks Tony! I appreciate the forgiveness :D
Yes, I did enjoy it, wonderful sounds!
YES!!!!! I remember begging for this when you first reacted to &U&I ages ago.
The Showman Chris Squire RIP The most creative bass player in history !
11th 2001.
Greetings from Oregon. My 23 year old cat and I consider this an anthem. Great reaction. We'd listen to music anywhere with you. I might subscribe..
Saw this tour in the beautiful state theater St Paul MN
I saw it in Stockholm, Cirkus, 2001.
Chicago, Ohio, Milwaukee, Detroit for me. A few others that i can't think of at the moment. Great tour!
On the Music and your body feels the effects for a few days after(and no drug effects😉)
Seeing them live >47x has definitely
Been impressionable on my life! Yes music Rocks!!!!❤️
Justin, I don't know if you had the opportunity to see this complete show, if you didn't see it, it's worth it, it's one of the best performances of Yes live.
They are just so good.
YES
One of my favorites...
