I'm in freshman (9th grade, age 14-15) and am partially out. I've never used my chosen name and have done nothing more than drop hints to teachers. My friends all use he/him for me, and some teachers avoid pronouns. I'd say I'm only explicitly out to my PE teacher, and she allows me to use the guy's locker room as long as I don't get in any trouble. Luckily, most of the guys are super chill and don't care at all. Some are confused, and there are a couple who hate me.
I just have too much social anxiety to officially come out this year, especially after teachers got used to my deadname. So, I'm planning to come out next year and arrange things over summer break and I'll have completely new teachers. My mom already knows but my siblings don't.
I'm just in a very VERY awkward position. It's so weird. I don't really get dysphoric from my full deadname, but when it's shortened I hate it. But, I prefer Milo and Miles. I'm just too anxious to tell anyone.

@@Milo-hp9fw I totally get you, I was in the same position a while back
I definitely think that coming out over the summer is a really good idea!! It’s also really cool how you get to use the guys locker room and if they’re mostly chill about it then there’s a chance it’ll be okay when you come out!
I hope it goes well for you!!

Also just a heads up when you take exams you have to put your legal name on the paper which has gotten very confusing with my papers being given back and my teachers not knowing who they are giving my paper to

As a closeted transmasc who's homeschooled, I'm so thankful for it. Even though I'm still too scared to come out to my family, I couldn't imagine how scary it'd be to come out to my school. This video was helpful for me tho as I do go to a homeschool group thing which is kinda like school and if I ever decide to come out to them I know what to do :D btw you and your room are so pretty! Same grade as you. I recon the three biggest factors in passing are, hair, voice and binding. I only ever get clocked when I speak. It is possibly to voicetrain to make your voice deeper. I suggest trying to mimic a male family member close to your age.

@Asher-99200 there’s a really high chance that they will tell your parents, but it helps to look up the safeguarding policies maybe? It’s always better to be safe

Look up school and district policy. If you live in the US, look up your state's policies. Maybe ask other trans kids at your school that have come out (if you can)
      Good luck!

I came out to my parents and a few close friends. The friends were totally okay with it because we have another transmasc in our friend group and hes like the "leader" of the friend group (he started it and stuff). Coming out to my mom was difficult because shes a hardcore Christian and is already iffy about me being bisexual. But i came out to my dad (who i don't have a good relationship with (#daddyissues)) BUT TO MY SURPRISE he ACCEPTED me and is getting me my first binder for Christmas!!!!! And he also cane out to me as pansexual!!!! Ive hinted at my new pronouns (He/they/it) to my other classmates and a few are catching on, but some of the more "popular" kids try to jump me for it and call me slurs... I wear only baggy clothes and layer up on sports bras as make-shift binders (until christmas yayayayayyaayayy) and most of the time, people who don't know me refer to me as "the girk who looks like a boy" or "the boy who looks like a girl" and i don't know how to feel about that cause... I mean i guess im passing.. Kinda...? Idk. Anyways, im in 8th grade (idk what "year" it would be because thats not how i calculate)

as a trans guy going into year 11 attending a public school in Australia, watching this made me realise how lucky I am. Even though I was the first kid to (ever) come out as trans at my school, I was really well accepted by teachers at my school, and my name and gender in the school system was changed almost immediately after a meeting with the principal, the wellbeing coordinator and my mum. We have a gender neutral uniform, mixed p.e, and we don't have to use changing rooms as there's no p.e uniform.
I still get bullied, but I'm really grateful for how easy I have it compared to some others.

I have school uniforms BUT they're basically vests and jackets that you put over your outfit. But they still found a way to gender them, they have yellow and blue stripes at the hem(like the neck) of the vest. And girls have the yellow stripe bigger, while boys have the blue stripe bigger. Luckily i have the boy vest because my brother gave it to me

@@Em3r4ld.xx.St4rz it’s definitely NOT too early to come out! I first told my parents when i was like 6/7 (I was pushed of as being a tomboy lmao) - The earlier you come out the better (sometimes) cos you can get used to presenting masculine and the people around you can get used it
Maybe if you talked to your parents about OTHER trans people or watched some kind of trans related movie/tv show and just see how they act and maybe start hinting at it- just to see how they are
If they react positively then it *should* be okay for you to come out when you’re ready!!

Great video!!! But please someone reply I need some help. I am starting a new school next year (in year 10) and I don’t know if I should go by my preferred name or birth name. (My preferred name is a masculine version of my birth name.) I have not told my parents or anyone yet but I would like to start a new school with my preferred name. So I’d have to come out to my parents and get them to change it with the school before we start. Ahhhhh. And I present feminine and I will probably get weird questions for having a masculine name.
So basically, should I go by my preferred masculine name as a feminine person at my new school, or just deal with my old name for three years???

Another (questioning?) trans guy named Alex here!! I'm in Canada so people here are overall mostly accepting. I have a pretty big queer friend group and attend the queer-straight-allience club too, but im very closeted. I was introduced to the group by one of my long time friends who (like majority of people) doesn't know, so obviously, they refer to me by she/her in the group. Many of my friends are trans or non-binary but they've been out in the friendgroup since I've known them and i have no idea how them coming out came to be. I feel like my friends would just accept me and adapt quickly, but still. I also have this stupid feeling where I feel like if i used the same pronouns/was the same gender as one of my friends, I'd be copying them (It's really non-sensical lmao). Honestly, I have no intentions of coming out to my parents (who often make transphobic jokes intentionally and such) , or teachers (since i feel they might tell my parents as you mentioned), but I'm thinking about my friends. The only person I'm really out to is my sister (there is a funny story of how she was constantly saying "you look like a divorced husband"/calling me a boy and it became a inside joke of ours to the point where I told her "dude, i dunno if this is a joke anymore." and she just accepted it and we laughed about it) and that's only because we are closer than most people on earth are capable of being. Tbh, I have no idea of if I'm asking for advice or just wanted to comment about the name similarities and got carried away, but nonetheless, thank you for the video!
(I'm just now realizing i could have written my thesis statement instead of this, but here we are)
