  • Step by step tutorial on how to weather Cavalex PGA wagons.
    Using a combination of solvent based washes and acrylic paints I show how to create the effects of 'everyday' grime as seen when these wagons were in service.
    Alongside this i demonstrate surface rust.
    A mix of Vallejo, Humbrol & Town & Country Scenics Rust-it are put to the test with stunning results.

    Simple but very effective.
    Sometimes the good old tried and tested methods are the best.
    Looks very good mate.

      Cheers James.
      Indeed the removal method is one of the best and simple processes that instantly leaves stunning results.
      Finding the right solution for pulling back off acrylic paint is no easy feat, IPA has a reputation of being a model killer where most would avoid using it for aiding a weathering process. The right ballance took a few attepts on some layered up wagons.
      Certainly given some more scope to enhance it further.

    You have really taken advantage of the sharp edges of the wagon. You have completely accomplished this in all ways ! Not have you just done an awesome paint job but you have clearly studied the really thing and put the rot in the right places
    Tim best in business 💪🏻👍🏻

      Thanks Sam! Top comment. Indeed checking images is first stage and finding ones of the inside, not easy!
      Just a case of working out what areas would of been the most battered when the hopper was loaded.
      They certainly work out well with this method.

    Thanks Tim for the tutorial and I assume if you dont have an airbrush you could dry brush instead ? Great results .Cheers Kev

      @thescrapline4905  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Kev.
      Just apply by brush. Just don't apply the paint to heavy, you could thin it a touch with some acrylic thinner or pigment binder. Not to thin with the thinner as it'll disperse on the surface. Leave to dry (30 minutes) and remove with diluted IPA. You should still get the same effect.

    When you say you use two parts isopropyl to one part water, you need to specify the strength of the isopropyl you're using. It's widely available as, e.g., 99% and 70% and probably others. 2:1 diluting 99% will take you to about 70%, whereas 2:1 diluting 70% will take you to only about 45%, which is a huge difference.

    Nice work Tim all the washes and the air brushing really blend together to create a realistic effect also where do you get that rust it stuff from?

      Cheers. Check the link below. Squires, they normally attend most UK exhibitions. They have a mail order service.
      If you cant find the product on their website search them on Facebook as you might get a response there too.

    Very good. Are you going to do any other wagons?

    • @thescrapline4905
      @thescrapline4905  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes my plan is to feature individual wagon types, these will roll out more often now. Getting the correct colours of grime etc will be something that will be the main focus aswell as new methods.

      @@thescrapline4905 Thanks. It's the colours I find difficult. That's why your latest video is so useful .
