  • @joestockton7016
    @joestockton7016 ปีที่แล้ว +33

    In the pre-game interview Southgate was asked what he says to the team before they go out on the pitch for a game like this; he flat out said that he doesn’t say anything; that he leaves that to Harry because in his experiences as a player the team manager often can make the situation worse…this for me is the number one reason why he should go; can you imagine Pep, or Klopp sitting silently in the corner of the dressing room before any game let alone a WC semifinal? This also suggests that there was an unfair amount of pressure put on Kane to win this game, that pressure obviously got to him. I don’t blame Kane for this missed pen, I blame Southgate for his lack of leadership.

      What a ridiculous comment and shows how little you know about leadership, coaching and high performance. Ask yourself why so few past England managers have done so well? Do you not remember those previous tournaments that we have stunk out?

    • @wrfootball3847

      Simon said he would rather have an ugly unpleasant winner than a pleasant loser. Well, previously we had ugly unpleasant losers.....now we have a pleasant loser...a loser nonetheless but still progress. Everyone wanted Southgate to set them up to attack...then he did that and they still didn't win, so now people find another thing to blame. Yes his tactics weren't perfect, but Kane has to score that 2nd penalty...Southgate isn't responsible for that miss. It's then 2-2 and the way England were playing its likely they would have gone on to win.

    • @garethrevell5873
      @garethrevell5873 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wrfootball3847 it's his sub choices that the problem always has been. Doesn't know when to change it, which in itself is hindsight, let's be honest. But there's no excuse for bringing Grealish on or any other player for that matter with 1 minute of injury time left in a WC QF. How is that decision remotely going to affect the game. Your throw the bloody kitchen sink at it. Take defender or 2 off and get attackers on. All out attack and go for the goal you need. It's all or nothing at that point. He's done the same thing in 3 major competitions in a row, hasn't got a clue about game management. It's football, not as complicated as people make out and it never has been and it never will be either.

    I think talking about the penalty miss is irrelevant, because whether he misses it or not, England should not be relying on a penalty kick to win a football match, they should be winning it in open play by playing good attacking football. I feel like it’s the same old story, of England just not setting up to win the game by outplaying the opposition and instead setting up to defend and play a dogged kind of game, where they hope to snatch the win. It’s the same strategy every time England play against decent opposition in a meaningful game and we’re always relying on decisions and things going our way, instead of taking the game by the scruff of the neck and trying to actually play creative and intelligent football to win the game on our own terms. We’re always relying on luck and it always costs us.

    • @Charlieb82

      100%. As soon as we were chasing the game at 2-1 he should have stuck Wilson on as a second striker, put Rashford and Grealish on too (kept Saka on as our most threatening player - he had the French players rattled) and gone for it. Instead he takes Saka off, sticks Mount on and puts Grealish on with 2 mins to go. Kane plays everywhere but upfront, so with Wilson on ahead of him there would be someone to link up with. No plan B

    I am a big of Kane fan, but I agree about Jordan's view on Kane and it has been apparent for Kane over the past 18 months. However, Southgate appears to be a manager who has his favourite players, such as Saka, Rice, Maguire and Pickford, and does favour a more aerial style of play at set pieces at times, which does not necessarily suit Kane's general style of play. I also agree with the first caller who indentified some selection issues with Rashford not being started, and it appears Southgate has decided that Rashford, Sterling, Grealish and most likely Kane will be subs going forward if he remains as Manager. However it would seems that Southgate is unhappy with his treatment over the past 18 months, and may resign in the coming weeks.

      What you you call it then? As failing under pressure is normally classed as 'bottling it'.

      @@Henry-to6yz I’ll explain because you obviously don’t understand because it is quite confusing. If he took the penalty the 2nd time and not taken it the 1st time and missed then he bottled it but it’s because he took 2 penalties in the same game it’s more than a roll of a dice it’s literal pressure to actually score not once but twice from 12 yards out against the same gk you train with every week, I wouldn’t say anyone would be called a bottle job if they were in the same position as Kane

      @@nathanielmay3900 yeah yeah, waffle waffle. You can sugar coat it however you like, he bottled it bro, simple as. A specialist in penalties and he managed a 50% success rate...
      Let him take 5 against a league 2 side in the f.a cup and I bet he buries them all. Pressure + failure = bottle job.
