  • Ayutthaya is Thailands Ancient Capital - a now modern city that still holds the ancient ruins and spectacular places of worship that have survived war, time, and change.
    There is so much to see in this town - you can feel the history as you move about the ancient ruins left from the Burmese invasion, as well as when you walk it’s quiet, but welcoming streets.
    In this video, we take a short drive from Bangkok to do the best day trip you can from Bangkok - the ancient city of Ayutthaya, where we eat some street food, see some ancient ruins, and have a run in with massive Thailand lizards.

    Nice video as usual. Talking about ancient capital city of Thailand, I choose Sukhothai over Ayutthaya. Sukhothai can be compared to cool breeze; where as Ayutthaya is like burning fire. Landscape wise, Sukhothai is more greener (more trees); where as Ayutthaya is freaking hot pretty much all year round..... One major difference is the fact that most Buddha's head in Sukhothai are still intact, while Ayutthaya's Buddha's head were chopped off. Also, if we look closely, Sukhothai Buddha tend to smile; where as Ayutthaya Buddha don't smile at all. This tell us that there were happiness during Sukhothai era, but for Ayutthaya, there were lots of stress, tension and wars. P.S. in case you guys wanna check out Sukhothai in the future, the area to go is "Si Satchanalai District". It's Unesco herritage. The best time to go is in November, cuz there is a magical "Loy Krathong Festival" being held over there.

I think it’s a must visit! The ruins are so special haha. Also apparently I’m learning from these comments that the thing to do is eat giant prawns there, I didn’t know that! Kanom means dessert , we call all type of dessert "Kanom"
    Tokyo means Tokyo.

    The city is an island surrounded by three rivers after raining season this whole area were flooded for months. The Burmese tried to capture many times and failed because of the flood made them to back off. They finally got the city after surrounded it for 8 months. Then they capture most of valuable Thai citizens such as millionares, soldiers, artists, engineers, architects, and so on back to Burma and left only 2000 "lower class" people in the city. Some others ran away to other small towns to settle. It took three years for King Taksin to gather these people and rebuilt the capitol. Ayutthaya was destroyed too badly to rebuild and also he didn't have enough people to do the job so he built the new capitol on the westside of Chao Phraya river in Bangkok. His palace was right next to Wat Arun. Fifteen years after that, the King Rama I took the throne and moved the capitol across the river and sent people to Ayutthaya to get some bricks and building materials back to Bangkok to build palaces, temples, walls and etc. For the area next to Wat Arun, he gave to people to live called "Kudi Chin" Community. I recommed you to go there and walk around. You will see four diferent cultures, Thai (temples), Chinese (shrine), Muslim (mosque) and European (church) living together.

    Somebody’s been showing off the drone skills with these pretty cools shots!
    Haven’t gone back to Ayutthaya in a really long time. Did you guys get the cotton candy wraps? Love them.
    You said Ayutthaya pretty accurately. The full name is Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya (something like The Great Royal City of Ayutthaya), a unique name as I think none of the old capitals that are provinces now (e.g. Sukhothai, Thonburi) have the same prefix.
    I think the name Ayutthaya means “the peaceful kingdom”, as in “warless”, which is pretty ironic how things turned out.
    A beautiful place nonetheless.

    • @sun_s9067
      @sun_s9067 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Love you comment 👍🏻 Just for information, Thonburi’s full name is Krung Thonburi Sri Maha Samuth. Thai people and the Thonburi’s King built Thonburi as a replica of Ayuddhaya in memory of our old capital city that was burnt down but Thonburi was nuch smaller in size compared to Ayuddhaya as it was capital city for just 15 years before moving to Krung Thep (Bangkok) on the other side of Chao Phraya river.

      @@themasterflexG Could be - I’m not sure 🤔 but I think it could be the case of calling it short Thornbury instead of it’s full name, just like how we call Krung Thep Maha Nakorn just Krung Thep. Have a great day sir! 😊

    The Burmese were chopping Buddha heads because they were looking for gold statues, this is because some of the Buddha statues are/were made of solid gold, but the monks would cover them in plaster during times of war to protect them from looters. One golden Buddha statue actually survived the looking, it's now on display at the (Temple of the Golden Buddha) in Bangkok's Chinatown. What's interesting about that particular statue is that there's actually a key found along with the Golden Buddha and it could be used to disassemble it.

    Hey, I've just watched your mango sticky rice video an from that you seemed to enjoy dessert that melts in your mouth, I could reccomed one, it's called 'Kanom-Phing' (ขนมผิง), they're tiny balls of flour commonly found in any snack shop, it's crunchy at first and a bit later it dissolves in your mouth. I'm currently eating a bag of it now!

      @@josieliftsthings The sausage wrapped in pancake is called 'Pancake-Hor-Sai-Krok' (แพนเค้กห่อไส้กรอก) (Hor - ห่อ means to wrap, Sai-Krok - ไส้กรอก means sausage), but there's something similar called 'Tokyo' (โตเกียว Yes, the same name as Japan's capital) it's a bits of pork, quail egg, sausage or custard which you can customize which one to choose or put all of them together and wrap them in a thin pancake, some vendors even draw children cartoon characters with the batter, it's very popular among the children, some grownups are still eating it. It's very common in night markets.
      And since you're in Ayutthaya, you have to try the famous grilled river prawn, the dipping sauce maybe a little spicy, but trust me it goes really well the the prawn, and don't forget to scoop the yellow fat from the prawn's head ;)
