Love this technique! Love your work! I've recently gotten into mail art. I love decorating envelopes now. Since I live in a rainy area, I purchased clear envelope sleeves to slip my envelopes in prior to mailing. They were less than $10 on ebay. So far I've had good luck with them. Hope you will do more videos with envelopes.
I love the envelope! Of you did regular watercolors, just sprinkle some salt on the surface for the same affect as the water droplets. The trick is not too much water on the paper. Its really cool.
Very Cool! I'll bet Heidi *and Jennifer LOVED their cards and Envelopes! It's fabulous! Great great Great idea......!!! I also agree that the droplets are awesome and work well ONLY with the magic of Distress Inks...they are made to work that way.... PS: Your nails look LOVELY ..so happy they seem to have healed well! Thanks Goodness!!!
Very cool. What about waterproofing (or not needed with dyes) the effect? I had an envelope returned to me because it got wet and address bled. I know you use waterproof pens (lesson learned for me!!) but do we need to waterproof the envelopes?
Another idea about "flattening" the envelope is to place it under a heavy book overnight. That tends to do the job for me when I use 140 lb. paper for my artwork. Enjoyed your video.
Do these really go through the mail normally? I don't see how a scanner can read them. Are you adding more postage because it has to be hand sorted, or just because the card you were going to add is a little heavier?
HI there! I know this vid has been up a long time, but wanted to let you know I used your process on my white royal icing cookies, and it looks amazing! Obviously I used diluted food coloring, but the "tips" essentially worked just as well, so thanks a million! Haven't tried the water droplets yet, (at the end) but they do add a beautiful touch, so hopefully that will work as well!
Dear K , can you share the brand name of your resist plus envy maker? I love your work! I am learning both Watercolor plus pen and ink handwriting! I live in rural vermont and do not know where to locate these two items you used, if you have an online source i would greatly appreciate it! Also, i very much enjoy your 365 qutes you did. I liked those asian looking watercolor pans you used, the rectangular ones i have from i thin Japan are similar. I have never seen anyone do great calligraphy lettering with a zero brush like you do, sort of holding it from the side in your card about a rich man is a man whose children run into his arm even though his hands are empty! I wondered if you had a great quote about fathers? My Dad is in stage four lung cancer, he went from a bit of hard cough to that terrible dianosis,,,i so want to create something amazing like you did , to encourage Him. Any ideas? Be blessed, Grace
Can you make a video about making an envelope by hand without the tool you have and or give me some suggestions on how to do so? I will invest in one in the future definitely but as of right now I'm a new first time mother therefore, I have to budget. Fortunately, I'm an artist so I have the watercolor paper and paint stamps on hand already. By the way, great work! I'm excited to use the techniques you've shared and I'm looking forward to seeing more in the future. :)
Fabulous technique! I've made matching envelopes for cards recently but only completed folding and taping two because the cardstock is cracking on the score lines. Haven't yet tried this, but I'm thinking if I wet and fold the score lines then let them air dry it'll work- no more cracks. Do you have a tip to remedy cracking cardstock? Thanks, Tina
trionmay Usually scoring your cardstock with prevent cracking. However some cardstock is just too thick or too "brittle" to fold without cracking. You might try a different cardstock.
I'll definitely have to get some of this Fine Line masking fluid, even though I have other types for my watercolor paintings. Most masking fluid doesn't fare well once you use a heat tool to speed up the drying process. A lot of times, they will actually sink into the paper and then become impossible to remove. I was so shocked that you were able to heat this fluid and still remove it so easily! Great demo, BTW. Thanks!
+Vgudorf My experience with heating masking fluid is that if you keep the heat tool moving, and don't concentrate on that area, it's generally okay. I've used a few different kinds and they seem to handle the heat okay.
+Vgudorf Oh, wait! Did you mean the initial drying of the masking fluid? I was referring to drying the watercoloring around the masking fluid. I wouldn't recommend using a heat tool to speed the initial drying of the masking fluid.
hi just finding this video today aug 2016 love love love the idea ~~ have none of the supplies ...so wont be able to make it for a while!!! I dont have water color paper nor the masking fluid ~~~ BUT you did an amazing job!!! not sure if u still do tutorials!! thx
+Allthingspriti You don't need all of these pricey supplies to get cool effects though. Sprinkling salt on wet watercolor will give it the same bleached look, the salt absorbs the water and is easily brushed away when the piece is dry. White crayon creates an effective barrier between the paper and the paint.
Hi everyone! What kind of stamps are those ones? I love them and I think it's very cool to use them like you did, matching them with the decoration! You're special Kristina!
I love this idea and the tutorial! I have purchased the Fineline Masking fluid that you have used for this envelope and am using it on Canson watercolour paper, however when I try to remove the fluid (once everything has dried of course) it is removing the paper as well and totally ruining the piece. Have you had this happen before?? It's really disappointing me as it was so difficult to find this fluid over here (australia) and it cost me $20!!!! and I want to be able to use it up! Thank you :)
+Little Cherry Hill - Metalsmith The masking fluid might be too thick. Try applying it thinner, also give the masking fluid more time to dry before painting over the top.
This is so beautiful!...I love those envelopes!. Wish I got one of these with my mail! ;-) I haven't ever used masking fluid (?) but this is a wonderful idea for it. This technique could be done for a personalised card maybe? Thank you so much for all the inspiration you always give us!
It's a great technique you just showed. I look forward to try it. However, can I use wax / invisible crayons to write the address? Will it work as well?
Love this technique! Have you had any troubles mailing envelopes decorated like this? I always worry if I add stamped images or other decorations to it that it will make it hard for the auto mailing systems to read the address.
+Tabitha Carroll I was wondering the same thing- i did some research and found someone who worked at the post office who said: if the computer can’t read the handwriting (about 80% of the time it cannot) an image is sent to a person sitting at a computer who types in the address. If the person cannot read it, it will get rejected and another person will try to read it and type in the address. If it gets rejected a second time a person will hand toss the mail to where it is supposed to go. If no one can read it, it will get returned to sender.
I loved this so much, I went out and bought some Fineline. I definitely have to spend some time practicing, but it seems like the masking fluid runs out so quickly, I can't control it at all. How do you prevent that?
Great technique. Question: If the distress inks "come alive" again when you sprinkled the water on them, what would happen if they got rained or snowed on while being delivered? Would it ruin it? Just wondering. I love this envelope. TFS
***** Some people run a wax candle over the surface of the envelope, but I never bother to do that. I figure the envelope would be ruined if it got all wet anyway. And I've only encountered one instance when the card I sent arrived wet. It's a risk I take, I suppose.
I'm so in love with this technique! I went out and bought all the supplies today, when I remove the masking fluid, it is ripping off some paper and ruins my lettering. 😩 is my paper just cheap? Or am I doing something wrong?
Thank you , for this technique....Beautiful! I have sent all kinds of decorative pkgs. And envelopes through the mail. If A2 size, just one forever stamp is required. As long as the face of envelope is Flat ..no xtra postage.
KimberlyRae Forde Actually, if the envelope is thick (like some card are because we love foam adhesive--LOL!), extra postage is required. Most of my cards are on the thicker side, so I include more postage just in case.
Have you made a tutorial on the card that was shown in this video? If not, I would LOVE to see one! It is so unique and interesting! Also, I love the envelope design :)
Hi K! Thanks for showing how to use the masking fluid! I just love it! Im looking to buy some over at amazon(i followed your link and they were out of stock)and was wondering how long one of those last? Say i mainly want to write single words or names. Thinking to save shipping and maybe buy two when I am already at it :) /Emma
I didn't read the comments so I don't know if you answered these questions! Can this work with a white crayon for kids? Besides online where do you think this masking fluid can be found?

What pen did you use to finish addressing it with? On IG the lettering was also white. Maybe you could demo that part on a "pretend" or to someone's PO box or something.
I would also like to know how you did the address, was it before you painted with the masking fluid as well or with a good white pen or paint pen? I am jealous of your h handwriting, i try, i really do, lol!

That is awesomeness! So beautiful! People are very lucky to get mail like that from you. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool technique! Thank you for sharing as well as sharing the sites for vintage stamps...didn't realize these were available!
What an awesome way to personalize an envelope or even a card. I heart it so much!
I love that you make receiving a card an experience - it's something you don't get anymore really! It's really nice :)
If you don't want to/can't buy masking fluid just use a white crayon to write the letters, the wax will block the paint.
GREAT tip ! :D
I tried the white crayon idea. It sorta works but is not very pronounced. You almost have to know what it says in order to make it out. :/
I'm going to get a lot of kudos when I do this....thanks Kristina. Thanks for helping me look like a rock star to my friends.

Oh my word I LOVE THIS!! I love the detail about coordinating the stamps to match. So pretty!! Now I want to make some envelopes!!!
I loved how you did this technique ...so well done...thanks for sharing...

I can't wait to try this... Your "Masking Fluid" is no longer available. Which one would you advise to use? THANKS
Love your envelope and the green stamp! Thank you
You're amazing! You've inspired me to pick up a brush again😊
Crizelley me too

Camilla Kat I haven't see crayons looks as sharp or clean-lined, but it has a similar effect.
If you're using water colors and want the water droplet look. You could use sea salt. It has a similar effect.
bubblefishez thankyou I will try that!!

K Werner Design Thanks for the reply. Using a candle is a good idea. You are so smart. I would not have thought of that. Have a nice Valentine's Day.
I love this! What color did you write the address in with?
HOW AMAZING!!!!!! love love love!!!
Beautiful work! Could you put a link to the product to buy online? Or did you buy them all in stores? Thanks!

Hi Kristina, Thanks so much for sharing these videos! Where do you get your awesome postage stamps from?
Jocelyn Duran I've ordered from a few different vintage postage stamp websites. Or etsy, as well.
Thank you!
I have got to get this Board, the envelope board that you use! I have seen so many Utubers, etc using it! TFS< Annette

+Emma Lundgren Try using a white crayon instead! They're cheap and readily available if you can't find masking fluid.
Love Love Love this! You always amaze me Kristina! I want to be you when I grow up (I'm 45). Lol!
Love it! 😍 Tfs...💕💕💕
can you use a blower?...substituting the heater?
Gorgeous ! !
I didn't read the comments so I don't know if you answered these questions!
Can this work with a white crayon for kids?
Besides online where do you think this masking fluid can be found?
Veronica Zamora Probably! Give it a try! And you can usually find masking fluid is art supply stores.
I found the same masking fluid Kristina used at Hobby Lobby. You might check there if you have one nearby.
Have often wondered if this is acceptable at the post office... you have such gorgeous handwriting and I have purchased many of your stamps because of that.
i'm wondering the same, would the machines be able to pick up the address?

Hi, what is the liquid that you use at the last of the video
congrats
What pen did you use to finish addressing it with? On IG the lettering was also white. Maybe you could demo that part on a "pretend" or to someone's PO box or something.
sadiejosiemom I used a white Gelly Roll pen.
LOVE THIS!!! Thank you so much for sharing it with us all!!!! What did you use to write the address? Just a pen? Thank you so much!!
+Martha Ramirez Thanks! A white gel pen
+K Werner Design Thank u so much!! I am so glad I asked!
SO pretty!
Any chance you could add amazon links to purchase some of the items you have
this was sunning, thank you for sharing!
I would also like to know how you did the address, was it before you painted with the masking fluid as well or with a good white pen or paint pen? I am jealous of your h handwriting, i try, i really do, lol!
HandmadebyAmber Just a white pen after all the watercoloring was done. :)
so beautiful!
i figured that buying distressed inks would be costly especially when the materials arent that available where i am from. i used the usual watercolors, prang or swan. and then sprinkle rock salt before it dries up. :D
can you explain the rock salt part?
Hi Kristina! I love all your vids! New subscriber over here! :) Btw, what do you call that glass thingy that you put distress ink on? :)
Kristina Mae Zuniga I used an acrylic block, but you can use any slick surface or palette.
I LOVE THIS! Oh, and more Manny cards, please.
What a great idea. Thanks!
AWESOME I never get to see my name in any videos. Love your work
Awesome 😊 thank you for sharing
I may try inking my christmas envelopes similar to this
So would the color bleed if it's out in the rain? Just thinking if your mailing that and it's pouring it might mess it up
Katharine Nelson Some people run a wax candle over the surface of the envelope, but I never bother to do that. I figure the envelope would be ruined if it got all wet anyway. And I've only encountered one instance when the card I sent arrived wet. It's a risk I take, I suppose.
Oh good point! Well very pretty
K Werner Design I have a spray on fixitive (both in matte & gloss finishes) by Kryolan that I use for my face charts. Would the fixitive ruin the watercolor on the envelope?
taccora I've used Krylon spray on varnish in the matte finish over cards that have watercolor on them, and it doesn't seem to affect it. Same with Distress inks.
Are you using at 20 gauge here?
I love this technique so much but I was really struggling to recreate it. The masking fluid would run far too quickly from the nozzle. Finally I realized there are different gauges of nozzle *light bulb*. I'm going to order a new nozzle. Are you using at 20 gauge here? Thanks in advance:)
+Alex Furey I'm not sure which one it was. Hmm... probably the smaller one as you suspected. :)
Thanks Kristina! :)
Beautiful! !!!!
What the tool are you using while writing the word?
Beautiful
Do you have an embossing tutorial? There's this embossing kit at my work (Michaels) and I really want to know how to do it before buying a $30 or $40 kit
Bethany Francia Yes. th-cam.com/video/l5I9SjE4s_0/w-d-xo.html
Oh cool! Thank you so much!! 😊😊
Earned a new sub!
I have a question. When I add the masking fluid and then let it dry and then watercolor and dry, when I begin to peel the masking fluid off the envelope it pulls up the paper and tears? Any suggestions?
+Jacob Chapman Some masking fluids don't play well with some watercolor papers. You might have to experiment a bit. Also, it might be that your masking fluid is too thick. I've noticed that I get tearing when the masking is too thick.
Love it!
Lovely!!!
Really good video
That was awesome to learn. Did you just use a regular pen to write the address? xojenny
***** On the red and pink envelope I used a white Gelly Roll pen. On this new envelope, I'll probably use a black pen.
What kinda of glue was that you wrote the name in?
if the letter gets wet at the post office, will the ink run again?
How would you write the address then? With a white gel pen?
I feel so stupid! I know you are Kristina and am so sorry for that goof. I watched you and Jennifer all the time and it just spit out of my brain! Thank you for responding to my question. I will check out the container store. Hugs Lori
great tut.
Love It...
where did you get the thing for making envelopes?
+Super Slytherin All supplies are listed in the video description with links to online stores.
VERY NICE.
where did you buy the masking with that needle?
All supplies are listed in the video description with links to online stores. Hope that helps!
THANKS
how did you add the address? masking fluid also?
+Lauren Bumgarner I used a white Gelly Roll pen. Super easy and quick!. :)
