    Awesome take, Temptation of the Force was great! Honestly, after everything they've gone through, I don't think it was possible for Avar and Elzar's characters to go in any other direction. For the Yoda wisdom drop scene, I LOVED that because the answer he gave you-know-who was so different from the answer he gave a couple centuries on - it's clear this was a situation that's going to be a learning moment from him. The ending was 100% EU vibes. The very last scene depicted, I'm still not sure what to make of it, if it was just symbolism or if it was an attack being executed - said character sleeps on a bed of backup plans after all 😂

      Xylan nailed it with his quotes in this! Glad to know the discussion between Yoda and [...] didn't only remind me of the one with Anakin.

    Love your honest, fair reviews! I just finished the book and agree with all your points. Loved your comp to Attack of the Clones not Empire. That feels spot on to me. I haven’t read much EU, so I appreciate your insight on the ending. I thought the romance element of the book was done surprisingly well, and I agree that the traditional aspect of the relationship was refreshing. I also enjoyed the arc of Burry, his trauma and importance. A complaint I have is that it felt a bit stretched and longer than it needed to be.
    You’re producing great content, and I really appreciate your channel!

    I have three questions I hope you can answer 🙂
    1) Having read all adult and YA books in phases 1 and 2 in High Republic, im now reading "The Eye of Darkness" as my first phase 3 book. When I read about the Stormwall I wondered, have I read about that before? Is this book the first time they mentioned it? I was curious about how they made it, protect it and so on. They also mentioned it in the comic book "Shadows of Starlight", but where should I read about Stormwall first? Was it mentioned somewhere in phase 1 that I forgot about? 🙂
    2) My plan is to read phase 3 in this order. Is this also what you would recommend? :
    The Eye of Darkness
    Shadows of Starlight (comic book)
    Tales of Light and Life
    Defy the Storm
    Temptation of the Force
    Children of the Storm (comic book)
    3) A last thing: In phase 1, Light of the Jedi, the accident happened because there was an obstacle in hyperspace. But was this accidentally one of the Nihil ships, or was it an obstacle placed there on purpose by the Nihil?

      1 I remember them in a short story from Tales of Light and Life, but I believe it started in the Fallen Star
      2. I haven’t read the comics but otherwise is the correct order.
      3. I don’t remember, sorry. I think it was unintentional and marchion Ro took advantage of the situation.

    What do you mean by Avar and Elzar being a more traditional relationship?

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Like, a straight (male-female) relationship.

    Can you skip the YA and junior novels and just read the adult novels and still know what's going on in the High Republic books?

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It depends on how full an experience you want. I know people who have skipped the YA and middle grade books, but I think you miss nuances and character journeys. I’d say if a particular book interests you in the series try it out, (but read the adult books in order at least).

      @@jonathankoan Thanks for the reply. I read all of Phase 1 but struggled with the YA and Junior novels. I did enjoy the adult books though. I might just read Phase 2 and stick to the YA and Adult novels and see how that goes.

    I want to read Darth Plagueis but you don't appear to have read it yet. In the timeline it presumably takes place after the high republic and before Episode 1, is it on your timeline soon since it fits chronologically or do you have a different reading order?

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This book I’m discussing in the video is a book from the canon timeline, and Darth Plagueis is from the Legends/EU timeline, so they won’t show up on the same one.
      I have read Plagueis and enjoyed it. You can really read it whenever you want, it doesn’t need to have any prior reading.

    Oh no that sounds like Smut

    • @jonathankoan
      @jonathankoan  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s not. Nothing gets explicit like in smut. I would describe it as a Star Wars book that has a romance element to it,

    This has to be the worst adult novel so far. I think it suffers from the same problems as The Fallen Star with its interconnectivity, probably even more because major plot points from the YA books are basically main points here. I read P2 YA and liked them a lot but I couldnt get into the P1 ones so having the Drengir back (which Im 0% invested in) and being confused about the blight which apparently appeared in Defy The Storm really made it a bad experience. On top that its writing and pacing was also the worst so really disappointing coming from The Eye Of Darkness which was top 3 adult novel for me.

      @@alexfdezpal I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. It’s my least favorite of the adult novels, but I still found some that I enjoyed about it, and I’m curious about the setup for the finale next year.

      @@jonathankoan well it happens, the Naboo action piece was definitely the highlight from me so I did get some enjoyment out of it. About the last chapter and what’s to come maybe I got it wrong but I wasn’t too excited for it. After everything I would have expected the finale to be centered around Ro and the whole Nihil, but now there seems to be something worse than that and they will team up?
      Would love to know how you interpret the last chapter and expectations for the last book to resolve that, maybe that will help me get it a lot better 😅. In any case I didn’t say at first but love your work and reviews!

      @@alexfdezpal I definitely think there’s a larger threat he’s alluding to. I don’t know how you can do that in just one book, but I’m curious about it.

      @@jonathankoan well, according to wookieepedia and what was presented in Path of Vengeance, the Under-Dwellers may be behind the blight. My personal theory is that Marchion will deduce this and ultimately beat them perhaps by bringing all Nameless back to confront the Dwellers, while the Republic may see this as a way to take back the Stormwall territories, but Ro has a failsafe, that should it be destroyed, some new more powerful stormseeds will keep few certain planets there hostage and somehow redirect hyperspace through them, thus making them forever unreachable.
