You know for someone that hasn't read any of the high Republic stuff yet. The way Alex talks about it is just so damn contagious. I feel hyped and excited for something I don't even have any knowledge about lol.
Im about to start Defy the Storm in my HR foray, and Ive loved everything ive read so far with all the adult novels, Battle of Jedha, and a handful of MG and YA books. The ending of Eye of Darkness got me so massively hyped for whats to come in Temptation of the Force. That its coming out a week after the Acolyte means HR fans will be feasting good in June.
@@myriadmediamusingsI'd highly recommend getting marvel unlimited if you're interested in getting into star wars comics. By far the cheapest way to keep up with them
With this publishing initiative ending, I wonder now what they can do next. This is set before the Prequels, so maybe they have their next story set post-Episode 9? We are getting The New Jedi Order movie. After that, an entire publishing initiative that moves the story forward would be truly good to see, and give the books feel like they've got more importance again, like in Legends. They could introduce new ships, new bad guys, and maybe elements from Legends like the Yuuzhan Vong, which the comics hinted to with a Jedi wearing a Kolo-Crab shell.
@@gentlemanlygeeky4088 The effects seem to be similar to that of the Nameless though. And given that the Progenitor is apparently dead I don't see the Drengir being much of a threat anytime soon.
I love the High Republic so much. But I still have to wait a while until I can read phase 3. I have to wait another year until all the books from phase 3 come out in German. The first adult book won't come out until September
You pointing out that we are nearing the end of this publishing initiative has me curious if you have any thoughts on if/when Lucasfilm will try to repeat the success(?) of the High Republic style integration of adult, y.a., y.r., and comics? What era would you expect them to go with? Old Republic? Sequel Era? I love all the books we have gotten and can't wait for whatever comes next!
I'm stuck on the Eye of Darkness! I just can't seem to get into it. I just zipped through all the others. I'm hoping it gets better Maybe I just have to pick it back up.
I have exclusively read the adult novels, while getting the context of everything else through your videos. And because of that I haven’t found Avar Kriss very compelling. Elzar and Stellan kept saying how much they loved Avar and missed their trio, to a point where I started getting annoyed about it and it almost made me not like Avar because of what you said - she felt larger than life, disconnected, almost undeserved. So to say this book gives us a deeper dive on her than previous books makes me excited to get more of a perspective on her.
Yeah, Avar in phase 1 worked as a presence but not so much a character. Moments where she and Stellan were in conflict, I always sided with Stellan. It was starting in Eye of Darkness where she was isolated, on edge, and yet still coming out on top, was truly the first time I felt she was a character to be invested in.
I also have an issue with her and elzar "star crossed lovers" thing. It's not the trope per se, it's just seems very forced. As if they're programmed to be obsessed with one another (we'll, elzar mainly) because, reasons.
@@jumpingbee4717 I agree with this SO much! I really enjoyed Elzar’s POVs… until he started thinking about Avar lol. It felt very forced. Probably my only complaint about the Phase I books. They’re flawless to me otherwise
My thought to this was that he starts becoming more obsessed once he touched the Darkside and it started getting a hold of him more. Following along the same lines as Anakins attachment to Padme being unhealthy as he got more flushed with Darkside energy so is Elzar after killing the woman on Starlight beacon and then losing his grip and becoming more obsessed with Avat after his PTSD on Starlight
This being being more a sequel to Defy The Storm instead of The Eye Of Darkness doesn’t sound good at all, to someone who mainly has read the adult novels. With its highs and lows I’ve loved The High Republic so far but they should have kept the same author and cast of characters for each age gap. Having all of these change constantly even in characterization depending on who’s writing each book makes it feel less cohesive.
This was one of my issues when reading Phase 1. Avar was a huge character in Light of the Jedi but was almost entirely sidelined in the two following books- particularly Fallen Star.
Hey, Alex! If I own several of the High Republic books but haven’t read any yet, should I do so before watching The Acolyte? Thanks again for another awesome review!
The Acolyte is set 100 years after the books with only one confirmed character in the show from the books. I highly doubt you’ll need to read the books before watching the show.
Overall I enjoyed it, the adult novels are consistently great. I agree with you though, it felt like there wasn’t a major galaxy changing event in this novel like the preview ones. I guess this phase is just focusing on the storm wall.
Avar kriss (or as I call her the music listener of the force) she and yoda and potter ingle (The blade of bordatta are my 3 favorite of the high Republic era
I'm super excited to get my hands on this next installment of the High Republic! I too have MANY questions that I'm anxious to see answered. I'll only disagree with where to start if someone hasn't read any HR novels. IMO, I'd recommend starting with Phase 2, then read Phase 1, and finish with Phase 3. Chronological order is easier to follow than release order. But that's just my $0.02 on it. Thanks for the preview review!! :)
Just finished and it absolutely is my second favorite sw book so far. I loved the discussion between Elzar and Yoda. And the steamy chapter. The narration in the audiobook is great. But the ending…
I agree i am not a shipper but i have never wanted two characters to get together more the avar and elzar. But i am also very nervous one will lose the other. Or if avar dies, elzar will lose his balance
I LOVE the high republic. It was released right in the middle of my life changing tumor so I’ve been using this channel to keep up
Praying that tumor goes away and you get better soon 👍

My biggest problem with the High Republic is that there are just too many characters to keep track of. I think that's just a me thing
Agreed. I need a matrix to keep track of whose who at least for secondary characters.

So Marchion doesn't actually know either what's causing the "blight"? Interesting. Would've figured either he or Boolan was causing it.
Maybe the Drengir are the culprit.

No, it isn't the Drengir. They were used in this book by Marchion for sth which I won't spoil. The blight can be connected to a Phase 2 book.

Wait, isn't Temptation of the Force, the dark side? As Yoda says, it is quicker easier and more seductive.
Elzar has been having some issues with the dark side, so its possible in this book, he may fall into it again especially with Avar around.

As a Bell fan, should I be worried that you didn't mention him in your review? Is he barely in the novel again?
A bit of late reply here but nope, you shouldn't be worried. He gets plenty of time, along with Burryaga. Ember is there too.
Lets hope that the palpatine family is on their and Palpatines great grandparents

I know I'm alone here, but Avar is kinda hot and stuff.
