  • The captive population of Mexican wolves has more genetic diversity than the wild population. That's why cross-fostering captive-born pups into wild dens has become a valuable tool for the recovery of endangered Mexican wolves.

Im from Mexico, and tbh ive never seen a Mexican wolf in a Zoo or even up close. I guess they are endangered. Hope these wolves can breed and multiply. The Puma is the only animal that comes to mind that would be a threat to them.

Really amazing seeing the folks at LightHawk donate their aircraft to help save species like the Mexican Wolves. Keep up the great work! 8:27

The Mexican Grey wolves released in Arizona in the 90s were 98% dogs, per the Federal disclosure on the project.. The Feds culled litter after litter of these dogs because they had spots, monochromatic coats, and other 'dog' traits. Mexican Grey wolves populated the area below 1-10 currently. However, with the then Secretary of the Interior, Bruce Babbitt, selected the areas between I-10 and 1-40 across the entire state of Arizona. The units initially plagued with the wolf introduction were Units 27 and Unit 1. Both units had the highest number of game tags issued each year. Now, the total tags for these units are only 10% or less of what they once were prior to the wolf introduction. Grizzly Bears used to be in Arizona also. When are they going to be re-introduced? You cannot blame the entire game animal decimation on the wolves themselves. The Feds poached plenty of deer and elk in an attempt to feed the wolves. As usual with government, the means seem to always justify results. At least we still have fishing to look forward to in Arizona.
