  • Its natural habitat used to extend from the southern United States to Southern Mexico. But the Mexican gray wolf was pushed to the brink of extinction by livestock farming and hunting. Today efforts are being made to reestablish populations of los lobos.

    As a Mexican farmer who’s raising cows and has a dad who predator hunts, i agree and want to preserve these animals because they are here for a reason. Wolves, cougars, even coyotes are here for a reason. Its conservation not extinction.

      I live in a farm community in western colorado and the state just voted to reintroduce wolves to our community. It is going to be a war between the wolves and our livestock (the livestock will lose). How are wolves good for the ecosystem? It seems to me city folk in Denver made this happen because they think wolves are "cute" or something without realizing the harmful affect it will have on people that make their living off the land.

    • @JM-nt5ex

      @@creightongerard3895 I get it, I come from a rural community, but wolves gotta live somewhere. • @creightongerard3895
      @creightongerard3895 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JM-nt5ex I respectfully and fundamentally disagree. Wolves don't have to live somewhere, they're being reproduced in a lab and dropped off in our farm country, so it's not like they are being moved from one place to another. If they really want to keep the species alive, they should do so in a place where it won't affect people's lively hoods, like a national park in Alaska. But if I am being completely honest, I have no problem with an invasive species being wiped out for the better of human existence. I know that's an unpopular take, but to me the livelihood of human beings far outweighs the importance of some animal that does nothing beneficial for us. Coyotes and cats don't threaten livestock. And having the government compensate people for prevention and losses is fiscally irresponsible. We're creating a problem where one does not exist. Furthermore, it drives up the price for the consumer of livestock. I understand we live in an urban society nowadays, but we need to work to understand the plight of all minority populations.

Saltwater crocodiles here in the Philippines kill people unless they are hunted down. You can't justify protecting animals that prey on the local population. People who militantly protect animals are simply out of touch by the threat they pose to the livelihoods of people in rural areas.

    Those ranchers in the comments lamenting about conflict with wolves after reintroduction, should probably get some advice from native americans who coexisted with them for 1000s of years.

    I have an idea. What do you think of taking some federal lands in the Southwest and designating as a wildlife sanctuary. That way there is a large area for Mexican Gray Wolves to be protected and live in a natural environment without human contact. So no ranching in those areas. Then we can unprotect them on all other lands so ranchers can protect there livestock. Maybe give them multiple locations. I agree with protecting ecosystems but I also want some land to be used in production. With my idea I believe we can protect ecosystems all across the western us, and still allow use of the majority of the land for agricultural and livestock needs. Thanks
