    Ive been dying for Orlando to choke up on the bat and just try to get a hit. Maybe I’m crazy but he’s swinging out of his shoes every time he’s in the batters box. On the other hand his defense has been stellar.

    You mentioned MLB ignoring ReyLo in pitching leaders. Well. Saw an article about NL MVP & they mentioned now that Betts is hurt it clears the way between Ohtani and Harper! Huh! Oh, then at end they mentioned that Ozuna might be a triple crown winner ho hum! I don’t have to remind you that Ozzie was omitted from top second basemen. I know Ozuna had off field issues but that was a while ago and he deserves some accolades too. I am so tired of the MLB brain trust disrespecting the Bravos.

    Arcia is far from the problem. With his gold glove defense he is already exceeding his contract expectations. Braves are not paying the price of a top shortstop, are not giving the prospect capital to acquire one, and there is no one in the minors that can replace his defense so this is a non issue right now.

    • @MassBoost
      @MassBoost 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep he's providing positive value, and at $2mil if he's just a 1 WAR player this year, he's giving the team positive value at his price range.

    • @everettkalafatis6106
      @everettkalafatis6106 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree. The Braves are not in a position to trade prospects for a hot shot shortstop, and they have much bigger fish to fry. Braves will have to deal with Fried and Ozuna soon, and money will have to somewhere in this direction. Furthermore, a middle of the road shortstop on a non wild card team will cost more, and contending teams with an extra decent shortstop to spare will be like unicorns in a forest or a snow cone in the desert. Even if you found such a creature, how much extra production do you think you will get in the remaing 80 some games comparatively? A little higher average, and a few walks for sure but remember even a better team like the 86 Mets got by fine with Rafael Santana!

    Arcia is 22nd in all of baseball (8th in SS) in OAA which measures range. Arica is ranked 17th in all of baseball (8th in SS) in defensive rating. Arcia is 26th in fielding run value (8th in SS). He is a top 25 defensive fielder at worst and a top 10 SS.
    Arcia is somewhere in the 20's in wRC+, wOBA, OPS, SLG, and OBP among SS. He's a glove first player. He is not the linchpin of the offense and isn't counted on to provide anything. If you can get top 25 value for 2m/year, you take that.

    • @MassBoost
      @MassBoost 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      For his price, he's a positive WAR player even with the poor offense, and at $2mil a year he's perfectly fine for what they've been paying him. For whatever reason, his hitting against left handed pitching has really suffered this year, and that's what has made him look so bad this year. From 2021 when Arcia came to the Braves through 2023 Arcia produced a 128 wRC+ and .368 xwOBA against left handers, so he was legitly good against them, but this year he's produced a 20 wRC+ and .229 xwOBA which is god awful. His right handed hitting is pretty much the same this year as it always has been.

  • @MassBoost
    @MassBoost 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you look at both Fangraphs and MLB Pipeline, they now have updated Nacho Alvarez feilding grade to a 55, and MLB had this in to say is his overview "A third baseman at Riverside, the Braves liked how Alvarez’s feet and hands worked, so even though he’s not a runner and has a thicker lower half, they wanted to see how he looked at shortstop. It’s turned out that he’s looked very good, even being mentioned as one of the best defenders in the Minors by executives from other teams.". Doesn't Nacho fit Arcia's mold? Arcia's speed this year is ranked in the 15th percentile, arm in the 68th percentile, while his OAA is ranked in the 92nd percentile, as Arcia's defense is due to his great hands, good instincts, and good arm, not his speed which is equal to Travis d'Arnaud's.

    Ok so... The last time I commented I talked about Robert Jr. This time I'm going to be a little more realistic. What if AA solves both problems with 1 trade at the deadline? An outfield bat but someone who also has history as a SS... Like Jazz Chisolm. Now hear me out. In a recent poll he was voted MOST OVERRATED player.... So maybe a secretive option. Hes only 26. He's good friends with Acuña Jr. And he's on a team that has said they are selling 100%. Jazz just screams Atlanta to me. He could be platooned with Duvall in LF this year. And could take over at SS next season. We would more than likely give up Nacho, Waldrep, and Darius Vines. If they want more throw in Isaiah Drake as a high risk high reward outfield prospect. Jazz seems like the type of guy AA could work out a team friendly extension with. He also brings superstar type energy like Acuña does. So he would mesh really well. He also fits the description that AA gave in his interview. (A good player that would excite an 11 year old). So the future lineup could look like this:
    1. Acuña Jr RF
    2. Chisolm Jr SS
    3. Riley 3B
    4. Olson 1B
    5. Ozuna DH
    6. Albies 2B
    7. Harris II CF
    8. Murphy C
    9. Kelenic LF
    😳 THIS LINEUP IS CRAZY

    • @MassBoost
      @MassBoost 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It might have something to do with Chisholm's -4 DRS, -18.6 UZR/150, and -9 OAA in just 329 innings at short in the majors. We're talking about a quarter to a third of a season worth of playing time there, and has hasn't been very good at all. Plus metricly Chisholm hasn't been particularly great offensively, more average to maybe slightly above average at best, thus giving up on a guy like even Nacho alone (forget you even included Waldrep) you're probably giving up a player with more potential overall than Chisholm.

    Murphy was great for half a season last year. Contreras is younger and cheaper. I believe the trade was a mistake by AA. It’s ok to admit that not every move by AA is some 4D chess masterstroke, he makes mistakes(Richard Rodriquez).

    • @MassBoost
      @MassBoost 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Do you realize what Sean Murphy has done defensively, is what Contreras has done in almost 4 times the playing time? According to Fangraphs Def, Murphy has a 3.0 Def this year to Contreras's 3.3 Def. That's the whole reason why the Braves got Murphy, due to things like the pitch clock, disengagement attempts, framing, and increase in base stealing. Not only that, Murphy has better hitting metrics, and Murphy outhit Contreras last year 129 wRC+ to 124 wRC+. Richard Rodriguez was a completely different story, as that's the year they made a ban on "sticky stuff" in the middle of the year, and once that happened, we found out quick that Rodriguez's took a massive drop in ball rotation/RPM mid-season once that happened, thus his effectiveness went out the window, and hasn't pitched in the majors since, even though he was a good pitcher for years.

    • @MassBoost

      @@ZakRoM If you just like him as a player, or you think he has potential to get better, or you think his salary might work better for the team as a whole, then those opinions are fine to have. But the people that say it was a mistake because of certain things that we can see metricly or statically, then that might be different. Just like claiming Rodriguez was a mistake, well he was a mistake after the fact because we never knew he was using sticky stuff. The evidence of that is that his fastball spin rate went from 2573 RPM in the 1st half, to 2322 RPM in the 2nd half, and his slider took a drastic fall from 2468 RPM in the 1st half, to 1982 in the 2nd half once umps started checking, so we now know he was without a doubt using it. It's hard to dispute facts.

    I've heard people say silly things like William Contreras was a problem in the clubhouse. I don't recall that ever being reported anywhere other than keyboard warriors online, but I constantly see that narrative being proliferated by felllow Braves fans. I think the Braves had more pressing concerns than trying to upgrade at catcher at the time. 2023 they needed more starting pitching. They settled for Orlando Arcia at SS but felt compelled to upgrade at catcher. The context from Braves fans that offseason was, why are we not improving in areas of actual need? That is the context people apparently don't understand. Would've been nice to leverage Kyle Muller and the money we used on Murphy towards a SS or a starting pitcher. We had Bryce Elder starting a game in October that mattered. Granted, Max Fried's playoff resume isn't good either, Clayton Kershaw-like in October with the exception of game 6 in the WS. Right now Arcia is like Johan Camargo with a really good glove.
