  • We recently had the opportunity to do quite a bit of upfitting to a van that has made the rounds. This van was originally built at u-joint, and then sent to expo for a full interior build and then sportsmobile for a further pop top.
It was purchased in Texas and brought to Colorado where we spent a few weeks adding tons of lighting, rebooting the auxiliary power system, winch, lots of accessories and a bunch of creative solutions including our new rock sliders!
This is one of the most competently built vans in the Country and really impressive even to us. We had a lot of fun working on something so nice and appreciate the hard work everyone else has put into it!

Hi Sebastian, thank you for the question. Timberline Vans is no longer building vehicles for the public. We only build DIY 4x4 Conversion kits now, located @ timberlinesupply.com. Best of luck in your search! -Tim.

Crazy thing about this van, was it’s price tag $170k yes that’s right $ 170k . Very extensive build but I just don’t see that value at that cost...& as you know I love vans. Be curious as to what they actually paid but I’m sure it was close to full price. I’m gonna hit you about about this one Tim 👍

Where is it posted with the build price ? The running gear, DynaTrac and AtlasII is probably 30k alone. Aluminus bumpers 6k. It starts adding up fast !

I see what your saying, and you can definitely set yourself up with a nice campervan at a small fraction of the cost, but the parts on this van build are insanely expensive and thats where a lot of the price tag comes from, 30k in running gear parts, 10,000$ penthouse topper, 6k in bumpers, 3k in wheels and tires, 3k roof rack, almost 1k for the ladder, probably 10-20k to have the interior built out, then the labor cost to install all the parts, it all adds up

@@Timespartan111 I’m very familiar with this van & those that built it. The original owner from Texas through silly money at it expecting to never sell it. But then things changed & it was up for sale & within less than a year after building it. Keep in mind that this van was built 4 years ago so prices where much different, at that time this was a 110-120k build, & 170k was an excessive price. Industry prices had not gone crazy as this was built pre COVID. The reason for my earlier statement was based on being in the industry & knowing what it takes to build a van like this… at the time I didn’t think 170k was a reasonable asking price & I still don’t… why pay an extra 50k when you don’t have too?

@@Duff_Ski i agree with you, but theres so many people who have just crazy money these days in the market for something like this and genuinely don’t care what it costs, and don’t want to waste time organizing a build, finding mechanics, upholsterers, body shops, to put everything together. Its kind of crazy how the “van life” got gentrified? Very ironic, van life is kind of naturally aimed towards people who don’t have a lot of money to spend on cabins, hotels, and rentals a chance to explore everywhere for cheap yet it got turned into a wealthy people hobby with all the new sprinter conversions and what not. IMO van life is only fun when done at a reasonable price, and you get to think, wow Im exploring all these cool places and barely spending any money doing it! If your spending hundreds of thousands IMO you might as well just by a sweet cabin somewhere and drive there with your car. Im currently converting a 2010 econoline I got for 2500 as a shop van a few years ago. It had been sitting cause it needed an brake overhaul. Just swapped out the suspension and shocks with bilstein and heavy duty coils to lift in a couple inches, all new brakes and rotors and a general tune up, did all the work myself and spent maybe 1,300 in parts, and got a free bench/bed of craigslist that came with seat belts and folds down into bed. Gonna linex it and throw some oversized all terrains on it and BAM got myself a sweet van conversion for under 5k. Thats the way to do it

All that work and money spent and yet still no toilet, interior shower, or bed without having to pop the top.

I wish I knew I wanted a van for overlanding a few years ago. A decent 2014 econoline under 200k miles is selling for more than my 5.0 fx4 Screw

Hi Marlowe, thanks for watching. We can only speculate on what it would cost to build a rig like this, since there were several shops involved. I would have to assume it's substantial. The scope of work on the van is pretty extensive. :) Tim.
