In this car case, it was a loose feeling gear being unable to get gears it's easy to check for if you remove the air boxes, you can visually see the linkage
I've done the gear linkage on my 206 now. I just wanted to say thank you for making this video it really helped i wouldn't have had a clue how to do it otherwise, and i asked at my local garage wanted £300 + to do it .everything works perfectly now
my peugeot 206 sw from 2004 has a wobly transmission stick and the gears some times are hard to get in, I will try to change the gear linkage like you did

@@dobbyrepairs hi kind of you thanks! in a garage it would cost a fortune to do that job! my cars a Peugeot 206 2002 year it's only got 50 thousand genuine miles on it and it's mint and rust free the only problem was the bearings on the back axle went it's easy just to change the whole axle than just the bearings I got a reconditioned axle for 240 pounds and it's an easy job it just bolts on and a friend with a ramp fitted it it can be done on a drive but far better on the ramp a few hours work it's worth keeping it's a good car I've just changed a fuel injector the engines fine now the only hard job on the cars is replacing the clutch cable it's possible but access is very bad on right hand drive cars but it can be done just have to take your time keep up the great video's you have saved a lot of people time and money ! keep the bandits at the garage away ! 💯🤔👍
Definitely I know that a subscriber told me he was quoted 300+ to replace the linkage on his 206 . Your 206 sounds well looked after and 50k on the clock is really nice . You definitely made the right call using a ramp to do the rear axle they are very awkward to do on the ground I haven't had the pleasure of doing a clutch cable yet thanks for the heads up
@@dobbyrepairs yes that's right I had to shop around to get the price at 180 pounds yes the Haynes manual say you take the steering column out to get to the top of the clutch pedal where the cable clips on! That's not fun is it no way would do that but it's tight but it can be done without taking the column out theres a video online of a guy doing it if you put in Peugeot 206 clutch cable if you ever have to do that job yes thanks about the car I think there a good car keep the garage bandits away with more of your superb video's thanks again 💯🤔👍
I have the peugeot 206 hatchback wich has the same issue. What is the name for the smaller linkage? Can only find the long linkage online or separate/ not sold together
I believe it's called a short linkage I have only ever seen it sold in a set of all 3 parts if you drop me an email with your reg on it I'll help you find the right parts dobbyrepairs@gmail.com
@@dobbyrepairsMy 206's gears are a bit sticky and hard to put in sometimes. I'm assuming it's from the linkage since it also does it with the engine off. You reckon this will help?
It's worth having a look at the linkage before replacing it to see if there is any play in the joints . It's hard to say if it'll help without seeing the car .
It's worth looking at the linkage on it if possible have someone change the gears while you look at it see if it's moving freely and see if the bushes are worn out
Yes, the original part on this model does have the same bits at the ends on some models they can be slightly different looking hope that answers your question
I didn't put any extra grease on mine as the replacement linkage came pre-greased but if you want to add extra or yours isn't greased all ready then you can use multi-purpose grease
I see if you drop me an email dobbyrepairs@gmail.com with the reg I'll happily see if I can find you the right linkage and do my best to advise how to fit it

Good video. Got the same job to look forward to on my wife's Pug 206. Gear shift quality feels like trying to stir a pile of bricks.
Thanks for the comment, and I hope it goes for you. If you get stuck, feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to help
Wow, you made that look really easy. I've just ordered the parts to do the same job on my 206. Hopefully, it'll go as well for me .
I hope it goes smoothly for you. If you do get stuck, feel free to ask any questions, and I'll do my best to help
@Dobby Repairs thank you. I'll keep you posted on what happens 🤞 it goes well
Changed gear linkages, took a bit longer than you did😀 all gears restored, thank you for your video 👍😀
I'm glad you found it helpful
Solved a gear linkage with your video, not permanently but its tight in place with a small cable
Awesome, gald it was able to help you
13mm spannet works better for removing linkages from ball joints
Thanks for the tip. I will bear that in mind for the future
A really useful video. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a lot for the video. It was very helpfull. I fixed the linkage myself, Peugeot 206 XS line 1.6.
Awesome great to hear 👍

What is that rubber you pulled of from the throttle body? I don't have it on my 1.4 kfw
It's a seal for the air pipe to throttle body. it's only on early models from what I've seen. so, depending on the age of yours, it may not need one
Awesome content! excellent.
Thank you
Hi! What size are the bars?
Hi, i can find out for u. Just give me a bit of time
Hi, I've just checked the length of them, and the longest one is 45cm, and the other two are 16cm. I hope that helps

have the same issue started today
@b10production51 it's definitely worth checking the linkage to see if it's worn out. Does it grind when you try to put into one of the gears ?
Does the original part have those weights at each side?

Is it the same for the 2.0 16v 136hp s16?
To the best of my knowledge, yes, it is . The best way to tell is to take a look at the linkage on it .
