The second loss to the Dolphins really cost the Jets. Uwe von Schamann’s FG with 3 seconds left beat the Jets 20-19. Had the Jets held on to win, they would have finished 7-2, and if they had ended up playing each other for the AFC title, the game would have been played at the Meadowlands instead of the quagmire that was the Orange Bowl. The Jets had a Super Bowl-caliber team in ‘82, and they felt short.
