    Another Bang Up! Job pal! The only thing that bothers me about DIY speakers is seeing the woofer screws. I like trim rings around the drivers. It would be great to see you try and accomplish this on one of your projects. I have done a trim ring on a project however I had to resort to automotive 2 sided tape which actually seems to work pretty good. Unless you like the screw look? I know allot of people do.
    Your craftsmanship is far above other DIY audio channels and I appreciate the content for that reason. Thanks! 🔈👍🏻

  • @sonnoradesign
    @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hola Pedro. Si estos son de 4 pulgadas. Soundimports es la mejor opción para adquirir los altavoces. Puedes contactarlos a ver se pueden conseguir un CHR-90, o si tiene una otra opción de markaudio. MDF debe funcionar bien. Es una madera con bon damping. Creo que va mudar el sonido muy poco e no compromete la qualified final. Perdón por mi castellano limitado. Espero que sea suficiente para comprender.
    El nuevo crossover es un coil de 3.0 mH en series e un capacitor de 33 uF en paralelo, para los woofers. El Fullrange no tiene filtro.

  • @sc0or
    @sc0or 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hm.. Why did you use a filtration of a signal for the full range speaker, sir? Couldn't be possible to play only with the subwoofer (if you remember)?

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I removed the filter for the fullrange and then got a low impedance. At the end I built a new crossover for this speaker with a capacitor for the fullrange. Check video #3

    Estoy comenzando a construir las torres CHR y quería me contestaras a un detalle que me tiene intrigado: en tu video se puede observar que los huecos para los drivers son (o lo parecen) casi idénticos de diámetro exterior, sin embargo los CHR-90 tienen 151 mm de diámetro total y los SB15 tienen 123 mm. Cómo es posible que en el minuto 29:06 de tu video se vean iguales los huecos?
    Gracias de antemano por tu grata respuesta.

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola Pedro. Primero, gracias por asistir! Los drivers SB15MFC30 miden 150mm de diámetro, creo que está buscando un otro driver. El link para esto está en la descripción del vídeo. Se vas a terminar el proyecto me diga porque estoy usando un nuevo Crossover.

    • @pedrogomezvazquez5606
      @pedrogomezvazquez5606 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Buenos días Amigo.
      Ante todo muchísimas gracias por tu pronta respuesta. Tienes razón, estaba mirando las medidas de los SB15 de 4 pulgadas. He contactado con Madisound y me confirman que realizan envíos a España, de momento solamente tienen un ejemplar del CHR-90 de 5" Gold. tengo que esperar unos meses a que dispongan de más unidades. Lo malo es que los gastos de envío desde USA son bastante elevados. y en las tiendas europeas (Sound Imports, Masori, etc) no disponen del CHR-90 de 5".
      Ya me dirás en que video tuyo puedo ver el nuevo crossover que deberé realizar para las torres CHR, por supuesto que me gustaría equiparlas con los nuevos, todo lo que sea sacar mejor rendimiento mejor. He intentado realizarlas con madera maciza de nogal, pero el precio aquí es desorbitado, por lo que opté por utilizar MDF de 19 mm, y forrarlas con chapa de nogal, espero que el sonido de las torres no sea muy inferior a las que tú realizas con madera maciza.
      O estimas que sería mejor utilizar contrachapado de 19 mm, en vez del MDF?
      De nuevo expresarte que para mí es un honor contactar contigo.
      De todos los videos que corren por TH-cam, relacionados con DIY de audio, los tuyos son, con mucho, los mejores.
      Mi enhorabuena por tu expléndido canal.
      Un abrazo desde España.

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hola. Gracias Pedro. Bueno que hay contactado Soundimports, eles están muy a cerca. Espera un poco e logo más lo tienen. Puedes acer las cajas con MDF o Contrachapado. O que sea mejor para usted trabajar. Los nuevos crossovers son muy simples, solo un crossover para los woofers y el CHR está sin filtro, para que los woofers reinforce solo los graves.
      Filtro pasa baja para woofers:
      1 inductor - 3.0 mH en series
      1 capacitor - 33 uF en paralelo
      Se necesita de ayuda manda email

    • @pedrogomezvazquez5606
      @pedrogomezvazquez5606 ปีที่แล้ว

      De nuevo, muchas gracias por tu pronta y grata respuesta.
      y abusando de tu paciencia, te quería hacer dos preguntas: si se podrían modificar las medidas internas de las torres, pasándolas a 90x26x15, respetando el volumen total interno de 36 litros, y si no afecta a su rendimiento el hacer la apertura de ventilación en el frente de la caja, en vez de situarla en la parte trasera.
      Gracias de antemano por tu respuesta.

    Could you do a video that’s all about how you set up your crossovers for these speakers. The diagram is great… if you actually know what it means 😂… which I don’t. But your videos are some of the best how to speaker build videos on TH-cam. Keep it up. Also, it would be interesting to see a tower setup done with some car audio. Preferably Skar… I’m in the process of doing a 7.1 surround sound set up with 100% SKAR audio and I would like to know your insight on that. Once again. Thanks again for the awesome videos 💪

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Zelda! Thanks for the input! It would be interesting to do some crossover vids. It’s not that simple though. There are some good resources online to get started. I never used Skar so I can’t give my opinion on it. It’s a car audio driver though. Not sure how it would sound in a HT set up.

    Hello from the UK
    I am going to have a go at making a pair of the these speakers. My problem is laying out the dimensions. Does the volume of. the vented box include the area taken up by the port or is the port area in addition. Does the length of the port include the thickness of the rear panel. Perhaps you could help and advise me. I have already done the crossover as per your video. However I notice that you have changed it in the description above. Is the revised crossover much better or will my original be ok. Great videos by the way, very addictive. Regards Wayne

      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Yashindian. I get it. You wanna make the same cabinet with different drivers. If you change the drivers you are making a new design and the box has to be recalculated. Those drivers you picked are not gonna work properly together with this crossover. I suggest getting 2 DS135 and a Tweeter the DC28F from Dayton for each box and make a 2 way speaker. I calculated the crossover and box for you. Send me an email: sonnoradesign@gmail.com

    I love your videos and you build beautiful speakers. I would love to come by and hear these speakers but I live in The Netherlands, so.... too far away. I decided I'm going to build these towers but I have tow questions: 1 How does the crossover filter connect to the THREE speakers; In the screen you show I see only one SB represented and moreover, on the back of the cabinet I see double connectors. Question 2 is: Did you change the crossover after 'breaking in' the speaker and if so how did you change them? I'm curious and eager for a reply as I cannot wait to go and build these speakers! Thanks in advance for replying!!

      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ron! First, thanks for watching. I’m really excited for your build. I like those speakers a lot. Very powerful and lively.
      I switched the crossovers. I’m using a second order for the woofers and the fullranges are connected without crossovers. The parts are:
      3.0 mH coils in series
      30 uF capacitor in parallel
      The woofers are 8 ohms each and they are connected in parallel to have 4 ohms at the end. That’s why I’ve showed only one driver on the crossovers they are in parallel.
      You can get all of those components at Soundimports as you are in Europe. Let me know if you have further questions. You can email me as well. Sonnoradesign@gmail

    Considering making a set of these for myself and potentially my boss (both audio engineers). How did you decide driver placement from the top of the cabinet? How much space is between the bottom of the tower and the port? Just trying to fill out the last bits of information. Additionally, do you have links to the components you used for the crossovers? Beautiful speakers and we’re going for small footprint, good sound, and wife approval!

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha! Wife approval always seem to come first hehe! Thanks for watching. Let me see, driver placement was based on listening position. 33 inches from floor to center of the CHR fullrange. 4.5 inches from the top of the box to center of fullrange driver. The woofers centers are at 6 3/4 inches from center of fullrange. Port is at 1 5/8 in from bottom of box, remember I added a piece of wood inside the box, on the bottom, so I doubled the bottom thickness.
      My sound impression: you guys probably have trained years, obviously. The CHR driver is bright, you can check the CHR-90 frequency response curve and there is a bump in the highs, I have the speakers toed out and I drop the highs a little bit on my Schiit EQ. Just so you know. Bass is impressive, I have them at 4 feet from the wall in a 17 feet deep room and sounds great at listening position. Punchy bass.
      Crossover: so I switched the crossovers. I now have the fullrange running with no filter and for the woofers, a 3.0 mH coil and a 33 uF capacitor for a 2nd order crossover.

    I just watched the conclusion of this great build and noticed you installed spiked feet on the speakers. My floor standers are the same dimensions, but I never installed the spikes when I bought them. They sit on a carpeted floor and are so heavy they are well seated, is there any benefit in putting them on?

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jon. I used the spikes mostly to make the speakers stable. They are too skinny and I wanted them to sit right and safe on the floor. Some people claim it makes the speakers sound better but that’s controversial. They don’t really isolate the speakers from the floor so you can still have some kind of “interference” on the sound specially if the speakers are sitting on suspended wood floors. There are products for decoupling that do a good job isolating them from the floor. You should be good if they are safe and sturdy.

    Resitors: Dayton Audio DPR20-7.0 | 7.0 Ω | 20 W | 1%

Question, the hardwood looks beautiful but you could have gone with plywood and then a veneer like you did with the sides. Other than the aesthetics, and thoughts you’d like to share on the benefits/trade offs on the use of hardwood sections for this build?

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some people don’t even like hardwood on speakers cause it’s too “hard”, less damping. Some manufacturers use it all over (boenicke). In this case it made it easier to work on the corners, like rounding it up, gluing, sanding and mounting the drivers. You can totally use veneered plywood or MDF.

    • @sonnoradesign
      @sonnoradesign  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey David, at the end closed box is 6.5 liters, which rolls off the bass at around 100Hz. The crossover point is at around 700Hz and both bass and fullrange rolls off smoothly. I didn’t want to make a 2nd order crossover cause it would make the cutting curve steeper and I’d miss the mid bass from the mark audios. It’s a different design but works pretty well. I loved it.

    32:21 The inductor is small on the woofer in that a lot of med is in the woofers. Nothing wrong with that, except it's not that much point source. I use 6.8 uh inductor on my woofer with my FR driver and the med seems just right. I suppose the transmission line design boosts the bottom end more than my bass reflex design (so you get deep punchy bass with such a small inductor). And your woofer level is just right (and the woofers don't need any resistance) it's good driver output match. On your FR driver, does the 25 uf mean mf? (like I usually see on caps) I use a 2.2 mf cap with a resistor in parallel to pizz up the top end for more sparkle. I haver never heard of 25 mf or 2.5 mf (only 22 and 2.2).
