    It's worth noting that you only have 42 cards in your stock, and you need 36 of them to defeat all the monsters, so that leaves you at most 6 cards you may discard. If you discard more than that during the run, you've already lost. My suggestion to add to the theme is to say the hero can take 6 hits. Every time you discard, whether by choice or by force, you take a hit. If you ever take a 7th, the game is over, and you can start a new one!

    Like it a lot, played about 10 hands so far. Started to use the top discard card as part of 'normal' play (not the speed version) and it adds an additional tactical element. 👍

    I've been a big fan of Clear the Dungeon ever since I stumbled on it a few years ago. It's my favorite solitaire game. I'm not sure about the new development ideas, but I'm glad you are revisiting it. I think making the Aces 11 is too powerful, and a bit confusing since you would no longer need 3 cards to defeat a Jack, you could just use an Ace then a trigger card. Also, this deck looks really cool :)

      Thank you for the kind words! I’m still tinkering with the game a bit, but you are right. The classic rules are probably best left alone :)

    I really want to play this game. I've watched two videos of it now and I have ordered a deck of cards on Amazon. And I realized that the deck that I bought is the same exact deck you used in your first video.
    I was wondering about maybe an HP system. Where if you're two Power Cards go over the value of the Monster card, the overage gets turned into damage against your HP pool. And then I thought about adding a six-sided dice. You can roll that once in the game and deflect the amount you roll. Couple Odd Ideas to throw around

    You can ad powers to certain cards for example
    If you played 5 on to monster you can add +1 to any next attacking card if you discarded two 2 you can ad 2 to any next attacking card if you discarded ace and 2 you can ad 3 to any nex attacking card if you have discarded two aces you can double 1 2 3 4 5 if you have les than 6 in all three cards you can return card to deck find a joker then shuffle deck ... i have soo many ideas.

  • @DeGreyChristensen
    @DeGreyChristensen ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like the idea of using the top card of the discard, but I think the combos and aces as 11 are too strong. Though I guess those rules do work well for a speed run/high score style rather than just having to survive. What if using the top card of the discard was a sacrifice. Like maybe if you did that you have to discard the top card of your deck face down.
    Or what if instead of killing off two cards, a combo allowed you to shuffle your discard pile back into your deck. Not critically powerful, and possibly just returning a bunch of low cards, but at least it may save you from running out of cards or losing due to a lack of triggers. Or if you are using the “use the top card of the discard” rule and at some point you had to discard a 2 on top of a high card for some reason, this could return that card to the deck.
    Just a couple ideas that I got while watching. I really enjoyed playing this game! Keep it up.

      Thank you for sharing your ideas! I'm happy you enjoy the video. Shuffling the waste back in would add an interesting deck building aspect to the game. I might have to think on that and give some ideas a try!

    Nice maybe you could add an element of gambling or push your luck - perhaps the last monster of each column is not revealed and you need to guess the trigger suit and rank to beat - just a little brainstorming

    I modified the speedrun version so that the monsters can defend themselves potentially
    It's much harder than even the regular version
    It plays like this
    You shuffle all the cards together even the face cards
    Then you lay 6 cards face down in a circle/diamond shape
    This is the dungeon
    Where it goes king queen jack king queen jack.
    Then You draw 3 cards for your starting hand
    Now you start drawing cards out from the deck once a face card appears you lift the card where it suppose to go in the dungeon and if the face down card appeared to be a face card it goes in it's corresponding place when a duplicate appears it goes on the top of it's corresponding pile and goes clockwise like you would put on the 1st jack then if there's another jack it goes on the other jack pile and so on
    Anywho you keep discarding cards until the dungeon is built and then you can begin attacking with the same rules of the speedrun version i.e. aces are 11 and 3 cards of the same suit destroy 2 monsters
    Edit: forgot to add most likely you'll run out of numbers before clearing the dungeon so you can only once per game use the discard pile as your power cards.

    Cool, but i've got some questions, like what if the deck ends and can you use a joker to close any attack, or you can only use it as an attack or it has to be the same color to close the attack or something.

    • @riffleshuffleandroll

      If the deck runs out, you lose. Jokers can be used as an attack card (worth 10) or as a trigger (any suit you wish).

    hi there! just checked the rules doc for this game- and i'm a bit confused on how the "reserve" card comes into play, help please?

    • @riffleshuffleandroll
      @riffleshuffleandroll  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the question! Essentially, the top card of the discard pile acts as a fourth card for your hand. You may play it as part of your hand anytime. This means you need to build your discard pile in a way that is the most helpful to you. Once the top card is used, the next card becomes your reserve. Does that help? Let me know if you have more questions. I should probably create an updated rules tutorial to include this :)

    I like how you designed the deck. The gameplay, unfortunately, don't quite understand it. Are you making an attack when the cards equal 13? I'm a bit confused. Maybe I will watch your video again. Something you said in the beginning was probably the answer of the gameplay.

    • @riffleshuffleandroll

      The first two cards played for the attack must add up to be equal to or more than the value of the face card (Jacks 11, Queens 12, Kings 13). The third attack card must be the same suit in order to trigger the attack. Thanks for checking out the video. :)

      @riffleshuffleandroll  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chess_universe2 The trigger card must be the same suit as the monster card. So, if you are going to destroy a Queen of Spades, the trigger card must be a spade. You can play the three cards in any order. However, if you do not play all three cards, you must discard what's remaining before drawing three new cards. Hope that helps! 18:04 you lost. Why? Because you ran out of spades.
    This game was based off of gridcannon.
    And gridcannon was cool. Clear the dungeon however - not cool.
    There are no requirements or monster particulars. Any card goes, then coup de grace by matching suit. How lame is that.
    Gridcannon at least had a grid, and a cannon. Jacks could be killed by anything. Queens required a matching color. Kings required a matching suit. If you lost a round the monster would gain armor.
    Here... there's nothing.
    Your next play... 23:00 This is trivial. You need a rule that
    - if you match both suit and hp of monster, you overkill and automatically kill the monster behind it.
    - when discarding cards because you won a battle, you get to rearrange that discard pack before it goes onto the discard pile. That discard top card is usable on your next turn.
    - Kings are immune to cards that don't match their suit.
    - Queens are immune to cards that don't match their color.
    I would drop the whole "only third card kills" thing. Because as steelbeard said, that locks you into a place you might as well give up.
    28:00 that's absolutely not true. Klondike/solitaire is simply a bad game. But Penguin and La Belle Lucie are classic, old style games that always can be solved. Expand your horizons a bit.
